Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I thought it looked underwhelming

the zoomed in trees at the beginning, terrible.
bad textures and few details in the riding section, too.
I hope this will improve a lot.

Nintendo next time just don't show a game in-development.

amirite?

I reserve judgement til it comes out, but that didn't do a whole lot to spark my excitement unfortunately!

It's like people don't know that's an old build or something. The only things that ever get shown publicly are old builds that are considered stable that don't have anything recent in them. :p That build they showed is probably 3-4 months old.

I'm going to be honest. That demonstration did a disservice to the game, much like Skyward Sword's live demo did.

It really didn't show well.

People complaining about this being hype killing and barren overworld: THIS GAME IS IN DEVELOPMENT

Look, am I supposed to judge the footage or my expectations? I can't judge the supposed holyday 2015 final game, I know it's still in development but they showed it to us, so I guess it's fair to address what I see as shortcomings so far.

That said 3D World kinda looked like shit when they first showed it so...

If you were paying attention, they said there will be insect and animal life. You can also even pick fruit from trees and eat them.
I'm positive that theres gonna be more to do. Don't want to show off everything at once.

Of course bro, nobody is implying there won't be "more to do." There were insects and animals and fruits and stuff in Twilight Princess overworld, but it was still a barren, empty thing that was completely uninteresting to travel around.

Once again I want to emphasize Twilight Princess is one of my favorite Zelda games, but I did feel the overworld was a true low point of the game.

Similarly this trailer focused on traveling around the overworld and how HUGE it is, but frankly it looked quite boring as he did it because it was so empty. I love Zelda games, my individual reasons are for 1. Dungeons, 2. Bosses, 3. Puzzles. Exploration is another drive, but there has to be a good reason to want to go out there.

That's why my favorite Zelda overworlds are usually condensed, like say the Link to the Past overworld or the Minish Cap overworld. Smaller, but every part of the world had something substantial to do and some meaningful application of Link's skill.

In this game they talk with such pride about just letting Epona go and not having to touch anything (like Shadow of the Colossus in that way, it's the right way for horse controls frankly), and kept mentioning how BIG the distances were (five minutes to get there, etc), but the actual content of the traveling and what they were traveling through was... well, nothing. It was empty fields of grass and birch trees. With like a black horse that ran aside them at one point.

It's a snippet, but that's my concern... that while I will love everything else in the game, the overworld will hold it back in some way.

Looking at a game still a year away from release that is already playable in some state and people are disappointed it's looking bare on content? Come on guys this is Nintendo you know the final game is gonna be so jam packed with content you won't know what to do.
This. THIS.

Seriously. After 3D World, everyone should just take it in stride. Just sit back, be glad you got a glimpse, and wait for E3.

It's cool to see a new Zelda but what they showed was... Underwhelming.

An empty open world with waypoints is not impressive, Nintendo. Looked as exciting as the sea in Wind Waker.

They're really focused on scale, which annoys me. But I believe in Aonuma and co at the end of the day. Very much excited.

I'll be honest. This looks like the Zelda game I've imagined in my head since I played the original when I was 5 years old. A vast, fully explorable world where I can look under every nook and cranny.

Everyone complaining about the over world in zelda seems to have forgotten about Shadow of the Colossus? That game had 0 enemies in the overworld and it was amazing. Same kind of effect right? Everything looked fantastic

I don't expect the world to be much more populated or dense at release. The precedent isn't there. I just hope the dungeon design is good. I can deal with some blandness on the overworld front. Been that way the series' entire life.

It'll be nice if we can get direct feed footage.

Also, remember that this game is at least a year away. This is nowhere near complete.

Not impressed really. Looked horrible when using the zoom feature, world is bright but lacking in personality.

Sure it'll get better, but it looked pretty rough. Has me a bit worried.

Wow, that was a really bad gameplay demo. They spent half the time explaining the idea of an open world as if we haven't been playing games like that for a decade. And while it may be a big world, there doesn't seem to be much to do beyond riding your horse around and not hitting trees.

I'm happy the new augmentics you installed work so well.
Us with organic eyes still fail to see the texture quality in an off screen, streaming, mediocre quality video.
The only thing anyone car really see is the lighting and the animations, and both looked great.

I remember this same shit when 3d world was first shown. Then when release date got closer and nintendo started showing more footage crow was fucking eaten. It will be the same for zelda. Get your plates and forks ready.

"World looks empty"

Does not compute. It was filled with constant cuts to clearly keep us from seeing more than they want us to see at the moment.

Was a pretty tame reveal of gameplay, but it certainly did nothing to deter my hype for it. This game is going to fucking kill.

How can you tell anything like the quality of textures from a tiny off angled shot like that.

He sure couldn't tell the quality of the texture in that zoomed part cause there wasn't any i think :p

I just hope they are not aiming for more than their hardware can offer! But i'm sure they know what they're doing.

Time to sleep.

That's the build they showed so why can't we discuss and be critical of what they showed? You can still be "HYPED" for the game and say that was not a particularly good or exciting showing. It doesn't mean you think the game will suck.

The biggest thing you have to take away from this footage is the confirmation of how different this is going to be from other recent 3D Zeldas. It's back to the original NES concept. Pure adventure, no boundaries. Like 'Link Between Worlds' had given us a taste of. This is The Legend of Zelda!

The footage was 'boring' all though the way that horse moved gave me some Shadow of the Colossus realness. You can already see some of the level of detail. It's going to be grand.
