never change, Nintendo die-hards. "it's SUPPOSED to look bad, they're just trying to show how the horse moves!"

Well if you go by past game than you know not to judge them till the real trailer hits. WW, 3d land, 3d world, Skyward sword ,pikmin 3, Metroid prime , AND Galaxy 2 didnt you as good when compared to their final form.

No, not at all. Gameplay trumps CGI. Just look at 1886.
I know that's a knock on the order, but after watching the recent video I got to say I'm really excited to au the order. it looks stunning.

No one should shit on the Zelda reveal. It was a peek into a game being developed, and I appreciate it.

You'd think more folks would have caught on that Nintendo is down to earth, even outright humble, about showing off games at this point. That should be a hint for people to get realistic and keep expectations in check.

Based on what was seen, here's what I noticed:

1. Yep, huge open world, with what looks like a very large map. That's what many, many have asked for the last decade or more. Well, here we are. Nintendo "caught up" to the west.

2. Who cares if SotC is ten years old. Robot truck horse epona is gone. I never liked riding the horse in a Zelda game, and this is exactly what was needed.

3. It's probably a safe bet that any gyro controls for aiming will work as they tend to do now in plenty of games: analog stick is the default for aim, and gyro can be used to fine tune the aim as an option.

I'm intrigued, no real complaints so far.

The game is a year away. That's a lot of time, for Nintendo.

Yes and Aonuma was right wanting the next time he showed it to be next E3.
They show perfectly animated characters, with beautiful flowing grass and amazing lighting and people throw shit at it because a game that's one year away looks rough.

Sometimes i really think that Nintendo gets too much criticism when they are the ones offering some of the best quality games. I don't know wtf is wrong with people.

Honestly, this getting delayed to 2016 makes a lot of sense. Especially considering Miyamoto's Star Fox comment. Contextually the comment painted this image:

"Zelda Wii-U could finish it's development in 2015, but it probably won't. Don't worry though, Star Fox is definitely coming out next year."

Yeah, they were just showing the open nature of the world. Guess what? Most open world games have vast areas with not much going on but some animal activity, ect. It's fucking outdoors. Do you really think that Nintendo is going to release a lifeless and barren Zelda with not much to do? Come on, man.

And that's the problem. Zelda shouldn't be open world IMO. It completely goes against what I like about the series.

Oh my goodness, that looks utterly amazing! Basically the Zelda game of my dreams.

Next year is going to be a spectacular one for Zelda fans.

There is no bigger Zelda fan than me, I get giddy at everything shown. And I was giddy but then nothing really happened. I love getting to see hints at the control scheme and just seeing the game in action is great.

But where is the Zelda gameplay? Running through giant empty fields is not zelda, its probably the opposite of Zelda. I know they probably didn't want to show anything, but that made that a poor showing.

The presentation was weird. No, I don't want a story trailer for Zelda, but is full screen footage too much to ask for? It needing baking time is why they presented it the way they did, that choice wasn't made because Nintendo thought it would be awesome if people saw two Nintendo dudes playing Zelda on a couch.

well you could definitely see some frame hiccups and I am sure there is some pop in and the final IQ is nowhere near done. Yeah it obviously is going to need a ton of optimization and that is definitely why they did this.

Well if they hype it like Skyward Sword it will be hard to avoid getting better detailed trailers etc.

See, i think, for me, light, animation and grass are god tier.

What makes some areas look lifeless in that demo is, in my mind, the trees and how they are kinda randomly positioned with no diversity whatsoever. But i'm sure they'll change that.

As usual, good observation. I immediately noticed all the trees looked the same and spread evenly.

This.

This is all I want now.

I didn't know that before now, but I do.

It's like they wanted to show the concept of Zelda in hopes that we, the players, will start setting expectations for a totally new 3D Zelda experience. However in this day and age of grand CGI trailers, it did look underwhelming. It's a tease for Zelda fans, but it looks underwhelming to anyone else because, well, there's just not much to see in the footage they showed. :I

That didn't look good at all. Looked like an empty world with repetitive trees with little to nothing to do. Seriously, those ugly trees & textures tho. Hopefully they polish the game in the next 8 months. Hopefully the majority of the games visual quality is on par with what they showed in E3. That was hopefully an old build.

And people have seen that for years and years. It might be new to Nintendo to have this huge open world to traverse but it's not novel in games anymore. If Rockstar revealed the next GTA like this, just the Houser brothers sitting on a couch with some offscreen footage driving around a city, getting out, shooting a couple of guys, and then driving some more, they'd catch just as much shit. It will probably be a great game, but that was a shitty way to show it off. I think that's all most people are saying.
Pretty much agreed.

Houser brothers would have been laughed at the whole time

*Looks at Twilight Princess' Hyrule Field, Skyward Sword's sky,*

Yeah. They could.

Actually upon further inspection, it looks like he is spurring the horse to move with the face button, and tapping the analog stick in a direction to influence the direction he moves.

So still kind of like using the reigns but you won't have 100% total direct control over the horse. I think that sounds kind of interesting.

Left stick taps for movements left/right like always then?

From everything we've seen, I think it's safe to say that this is the closest Nintendo have got to making a 3D Zelda that is faithful to the design ethos of Zelda 1.

Nintendo are really pushing the giant world aspect of the game so far. I guess they wanted to show that they really meant they're going back to the exploration based gameplay of the first Zelda game.

I don't think people should be worried about the overworld yet since this trailer's intention was clearly to show that the world was huge, to show that you have Epona and show just a bit of the traversal methods. They were running pretty quickly along the map, not focusing on anything but the tower (which they didn't even show haha).

I thought it was hilarious how relaxed the trailer was. People were probably expecting some super hype epic trailer like the Twilight Princess but, nope, here you have Miyamoto and Aonuma talking about release dates while Epona runs! It sure isn't the best marketing idea, but I just love their style.

Just like how people thought Super Mario 3D world was boring and uninteresting from the first E3 trailer, right?

Frankly they were validated in that, because it looked boring and uninteresting at the time.

You seem to assume that people should use precognition or simply blindly believe everything Nintendo shows to be AAA 95+ GOTY stuff.

Maybe if you ignore like half of the conversation.

Yeah.
While we all certainly understand that it still looks a bit rough, they shouldn't have concentrated on some gameplay elements that aren't that interesting, because they've been in a ton of games.
A better look through the world with different areas would have been nice, everything looked pretty similar.
Dungeons or just a different type of areas, which are surely part of the world, would have been alot better.

Oh. Look at it, an in-game clock. It`s 7pm in Hyrule.

I wonder if the time is just there for development purposes (it's quite obvious that they haven't worked on the proper UI yet) or if time will play an important role in the new game. Other Zelda games had day/night cycles, but outside of Majora's Mask they never had a proper clock on screen, since it wasn't important to the gameplay.

I didn't mind what I saw, looked kind of old-school like the N64 Zelda games. Not a particularly impressive demo though, not sure why they showed what they did.

I don't know. I just saw it as a presentation of how pretty and large the world is. Maybe they took it for granted in thinking that people will know that the content will be there when it ships a year from now. I mean, to me it's common sense. It's fucking Zelda.

This is what has me excited to be honest. Give me a sense of mystery and exploration. I really hope Aounuma is going for that. Don't start the game out with a 30 minute story/tutorial.

I am happy. I wanted a full blown trailer and sure Nintendo hasn't forgotten how to make those as seeing that the smash trailers were good and full of hype. I kinda want that next time, to feed my hype machine. Game looked pretty from offscreen, it did look barren and a bit repetitive from that very small snippet. Still... I am all in. I love Zelda, it's my favorite media franchise in the world. In Nintendo I trust :p.

If you are doing that then you a left with:

What we see:

Game looks a bit rough and empty. Textures need work and one would hope the world has more life than what they showed.

Track record:

The other Wii U titles Nintendo showed off looked rough or uninspired in the beginning, but have pretty much all turned out great.

If we are combining those two to form an opinion, then I'd say that while there are issues, it would be logical to expect them resolved for the most part based on the history of the Wii U titles we have seen so far. But the negative reaction has been a lot of definitives and "That looks terrible/boring." I'm all for logical criticism, which there is to give here, but most of the criticism here seems knee-jerk.

You're going to get knee-jerk posts on both sides. I doubt anybody here is going to make a definitive buying decision based on what they saw tonight, which is what matters.

That was really, really dull. I hope this turns out well because I want to like but the last few Zelda games I didn't care for much either.

My response after seeing this is basically there's a ton we haven't seen and don't know yet, so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions.

Pretty much.

They still haven't done their "story" trailer that shows the "new" features of the game. Bulletime is probably notable though.

I blame Geoff for hyping me a bit too much.

I see I'm not the only one who wasn't particularly impressed.

We know how open world navigation works.
And the world looked rather early in development or Just not that good.

Zelda overworlds have tended to be pretty big with not a huge amount of enemies/animals running around. That's just the way the games are made. SS changed that a bit, with having more tight-knit areas.

*Shrugs* eh, whatever. I thought it looked great. Can't please everybody.

Zelda's never really had a cohesive "open world" though*, just sort of a hub system with cordoned off little sections that serve as other maps

Skyward Sword was actually the worst at this, with a world that felt more restrictive than any other
