Weird decision to not show off a horde of enemies somewhere, though given the blue tunic, this could be quite early in the game.

I didn't tell anyone to not criticize it, I asked them to think before they do. The same can be said for folks who get too excited, but honestly how can we judge anything from that video with any decisiveness?

That's what these videos are for.

Nobody can be definitive about their judgments, but they can certainly say things like:

"Man, after watching that, I have some concern the overworld is going to be barren and rather boring to traverse, like Twilight Princess' world was."

Or

"Yeah I appreciate the size of the world and the horse's ability to gallop on its own, but it didn't seem like that was very much interesting to do in the snippets of gameplay they showed. After Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, I was hoping they'd learn how to make a more compelling overworld... early days yet, but the trailer did not alleviate those concerns."

I mean, that's what these things are for. Every trailer we get is one little blip on the radar for people to evaluate whether they want the product or not. It's fair game, and trust me if the Nintendo devs didn't want that they wouldn't have shown it yet. They are hoping this interests players.

And people wonder why we get overproduced CG Trailers.......

Er there multiple games during the awards that showed lengthy game demo sequences. Showing off screen footage, while talking up features that are commonplace, does not make for the most interesting trailer.

I have no worries about the game, its just a dull showing.

Splatoon, Mario Maker, Star Fox, Zelda, Kirby, Yoshi's Wooly World and Mario Party looks to be Nintendo's lineup for next year then... and the annual E3 holiday release surprise too, most likely.

Wii U is gonna have another stellar year of first party releases.

X
Devil's Third
Mario vs DK

definitely the biggest year for Wii U

*did not watch/listen Zelda footage or read comments about it*

Its hard to say if what was shown looked fun or boring. It was essentially a video promoting the game's scale, how Epona is now controlled, and how some of the game controls. It was like a two minute Zelda tech demo that didn't show that much.

Still annoyed by the slow mo....like why......archery is so much better and epic in real time, thats what Shadow of the Colossus taught me.

Other than the "dense" forest that looked more like an orchard, the footage looked fantastic. Love the art style too.

That was great.

Drop that wii u to 200 and ill probably buy one for this game alone.
HOW DO PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM NOT KNOW THAT YOU CAN ALREADY GET A WII U FOR 200. BUY A REFURB ONE. THE QUALITY OF REFURBS IS FINE. JEESH.

...REGARDLESS, YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT A WII U FOR BAYONETTA, THE TRUE GOTY.

I thought it looked amazing. Can't wait to hear more about the story and additional gameplay mechanics. It seems as though there will be lots of "optional" dungeons to find based on what they showed. Hopefully they will have some depth to them. I'm still really surprised we saw footage like this right now. Hype still going strong. Can't wait till the next nintendo direct maybe we'll get a starfox trailer or something.

Nintendo probably should have just shown a CG trailer.

Anyway, it looks damn great!! I hope wiimote controls arent completely out of the picture.

Exactly.

Call it nostalgia or fanboyness but I have such a fond connection to Hyrule that I don't mind getting a game with beautiful and vast environments. It will have the usual brilliant puzzles and dungeons and bosses, and awesome combat as usual.

I get the concern about the overworld, but I love just being able to... "be" in such a place. It looks like the first really, truly massive Hyrule that I've always longed for, so if it isn't full and dense with gameplay every square foot, I'm not concerned as I know that other facets of the game will provide that.

I'm not worried. It looks phenomenal to me.

I think it was a good way to tease zelda a bit. the game awards isn't the right place for a real zelda hype trailer. This will be e3 stuff.

I really love what I'm seeing.

btw: Someone in the game award thread did something like the dick shulks with zelda reveal :D. Am I right?

One year before launch Twilight Princess looked almost the same...
Hope that isn't the case for Zelda Wii U.

Zelda overworlds have tended to be pretty big with not a huge amount of enemies/animals running around. That's just the way the games are made. SS changed that a bit, with having more tight-knit areas.

*Shrugs* eh, whatever. I thought it looked great. Can't please everybody.

Nothing wrong with the way they presented it. They've already given it a hyped up intro last E3. They want too focus on gameplay instead of people scrutinizing every single texture when the game isn't even done yet. Y'all act like Nintendo won't have a Zelda and Co. extravaganza next year at E3. Treehouse footage all day.

I don't understand why you can't understand that some people are just being critical of what is being shown and that's it. We know it's in development. We know it's a demo. Everyone knows that. Nobody assumes Zelda is coming out tomorrow, I assure you. Some of you guys can't deal with the slightest bit of criticism.

I understand some criticism, but others I do not, which is why I prefaced my criticism with "some of you."

Is it really just me, or... Is Zelda just not exciting me as much anymore because we are getting, like, two Zelda games each year?

I am kind of tired of seeing Link now, I just beat Hyrule Warriors and Majora's Mask comes out in two-three months, and I just bought the MK8 DLC with Link as a playable character and a Zelda race track. I also 100% Wind Waker HD just a while ago, so why not just CHILL on the Zelda releases and focus on the plethora of other IPs Nintendo got in stock?

Link Between Worlds excited me a great deal, but now... There are less Assassin's Creeds a year than Zelda, it feels like. Why not release this game in 2016 and put Metroid in 2015, so we have some... I don't know, variety.

Looks really nice though, I am just not overly excited. Especially considering Inquisition kind of satisfies my "Explore a nice-looking world on a horse-back"-needs.
buy Bayo 2.
but yeah, they are pushing Zelda far more these days, they kinda need to, just enjoy the new mainline game on Wii U, ignore the others.

ummmm.....I just kinda jumped in this thread without watching any of the award show. I mean im hyped, this thread got my hyped, but then I saw the footage? Just came off really awkward to me. Maybe it was the translation going on, but them talking was a bit lame. Believe me, I cant wait for this game but this reveal was a bit too early if you ask me. There's the the CGI trailer end of things and then theres the show footage waaaaay too early.....

I'm puzzled by your blind faith. Especially since the overworld has been bland and barren ever since WW.

I have yet to be disappointed by a console Zelda game. For me, no other series in gaming has maintained the level of quality that the Zelda games have throughout the years. Why would I have to start doubting all of the sudden? Some of you people make no sense at all.

Nah, then we'd get people complaining where's the actual gameplay? Why'd you show something we won't actually play?

Did Nintendo forget how to make trailers? Talk about killing hype. They'll be lucky if this game even sells Skyward Sword numbers at this rate

The game does look cool though. Seems like it could potentially be better than the last few entries.

Looking at the way he was playing while riding epona, it looked like he was using a button on the d-pad and a button on the face buttons to control the horse.

Like tapping with a rhythm back and forth. Maybe it is meant to simulate the rhythm of holding the reigns of the horse? He definitely wasn't using the control stick.

Boring as hell... I liked E3 video more.

Probably because the latter had some music in it. This one was kinda... soft/non-existent on OST. And the over-world looked a little barren (got a few TP vibes), but overall, I'm really glad they showed it and I'm convinced the barren look will get ironed with hopefully some additional, smaller villages. As for music, that'll be probably great, no worries.

This is always the danger of revealing in game footage of something this far from release. Without knowing the final vision for the game, it's hard to know how to interpret what we're seeing here. Nintendo always does the graphical polishing late in the process, so I'm not too worried about the density of the environment or any framerate issues. The engine scale is huge and a lot of it already looks great. The gamepad map looked great and the idea of using the gyro for aiming on horseback is cool too.

I have faith in Aonuma. I think if we saw most games this early in development, people would be dry heaving all over those threads too.

The Zelda defense force is ridiculous.

People are judging what has been shown before them. If Nintendo didn't want people to have an opinion about the footage, they wouldn't have shown the footage to begin with. Quit acting like Zelda's honour is being besmirched.

I like the gamepad implementation! I've gotta get a new gamepad by the time this releases though, my screen has some tiny funky looking spot and my warranty is up. If this is gonna be using the gamepad a lot, no way I'm not getting a new one.

still obviously quite rough in spots but i'm sold on the game world delivering the open nature we've been told about. looked very full and wide, not narrow and segmented like the zelda overworlds that aren't the great sea and the sky have been.

I, for one, am glad to get a glimpse of gameplay instead of a cinematic teaser.

It obviously looks a year away from being finished, but it's huge and freely explorable. I love what I've seen so far.

What a terrible fucking showcase. Completely off-screen gameplay of practically barren environments? Awesome.

Game looks like it could be beautiful. Lousy way to show it off though.

The empty fields make you appreciate the intricate dungeon design's that much more though. Plus it helps selling the idea of a vast, explorable world.

Most of San Andreas magnificent world design can be traced back to the vast emptyness of the country. This latest Zelda design can probably cause the same effect.

My feeling is that even when they have barren overworlds (like Twilight Princess), that was a minus on my evaluation but everything else was so good it didn't matter.

I suspect that this will be a great Zelda game, like almost every Zelda game is. My issue is that maybe the world will just make it more painful to get to the parts I actually want to experience :p

My only problem is that Aonuma says (or the translator does) that enemies appear around dungeons. So if you're not close to a dungeon there's nothing?

Will there be night-time like Ocarina of Time? Maybe monsters appear then?

Anyway, I liked what I saw, horse battles are the main thing to pop in my mind when I saw the horse moving by itself and Link aiming, when he said stuff like picking up apples, made me a little more interested.

Damn Epona looks amazing. Little empty but I guess they wanted to show the horse AI and then a little bit of horseback combat. Pretty cool update on the game really. Can't wait FOR E3 2015.

Yeah, they were just showing the open nature of the world. Guess what? Most open world games have vast areas with not much going on but some animal activity, ect. It's fucking outdoors. Do you really think that Nintendo is going to release a lifeless and barren Zelda with not much to do? Come on, man.
