Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 9:

Well then, that was really excellent episode, though sadly I think it highlights the fact that Akasuki is just not that interesting a characters, at least in comparison to Shiroe.
I will say tha they have exposed what what they were going for with Akasuki paralleling Shiroe's story, as they are both going through the same character arc, just in different fashions. Indeed, we learn the downside and the limits to being a chessmaster, when you come to think of people of pawns and they know this, resentment and mistrust will follow.Though we have learned also what Shiroe has really been up to, and indeed this has been going on in the background for some time now. Also, hopefully this will shut up the contingent of people whining about how finding a way home has been "dropped." Shiroe has been working his Xanatos Gambits overtime in researching this world, understanding every detail, every change, every thing he can examine and it has been building to a hypothesis. There might be a third faction who not only unleashed the Apocalypse but are the heart of of the vastly changing world. Yet in spite of all that has been gained, Shiore has made mistakes, and indeed can't foresee everything, nobody foresaw three raid bosses joining forces and crushing everybody like ants. Also, it turns out the afterlife is a test server that has become the Moon, I am sure this means something, but I am not sure what yet. Anyway, Log horizon is really hitting is stride now, just like I thought it would.

Sums up this episode nicely.

Another raid focused episode and another reason why I love this show so much. One can tell the writer has MMO experience compared to something like SAO based on the battles with the raid bosses and how everyone encounter this just 'Hit it until it dies!'. The counting down till a boss uses a skill, managing adds I just freaking love it.
Feels bad that they got wiped on some total bullshit. Three end of raid bosses at the same time? FUUUUCCCKK. Episode also gladly touched on the feelings of despair and being a loser when dying. So if one has to see parts of their life when they really sucked every time they died along with losing a memory? Yeah I can imagine you really don't want to die even if that death isn't permanent.

one theory I can think of is that
It could be an enrage timer where they took way too long to defeat the raid boss so it turned on its enrage timer and wiped everyone out

overall pretty good episode

Ha! I didn't think of that, it might be! Loved this episode so so much.

I thought they meant that in the Real World, they put the test server on the moon.

I dunno.

Lol nono ^^; the test server in Elder Tale is on the moon.

Oh I get your confusion- what they meant by 'server' is that the entire world of the game is split into 13 'regions', like right now they're playing in the 'Japan Server', there's also North America, South and Central America, Korea, China, Southeast Asia, India, Middle East, Western Europe etc.

Oh I understand now. I forgot about how they set the servers apart, instead drawing from how servers worked in real life (every server has the same world).

I wonder if you can buy the moon.

Need an image of the three raid bosses together with the caption "You came to the wrong Neighborhood."

Build a spaceship to raid the moon XD !

Why not? Why not eventually build one of those? Indeed, if they could reach the moon without dying, maybe their old selves could get restored?

I just love how 'unanime' shiro's real life face looks.

curious how they can tackle this boss setup. Wonder if the bosses could damage each other.

So I guess this eps takes place when aktsuki first died, and the ending of last week's shirou is after this boss raid?

Heh. I just rewatched Log Horizon's first episodes. it's kind of amusing to see the large amount of background cameos of people who'd eventually become actual characters. Some minor characters have just disappeared though, especially most of the Crescent Moon Alliance background members.

Wow. That current raid boss needs to be nerfed. Who do I contact?

The Knight Raid Boss is fine, it's the other bosses that have butted into the fight that is the problem.

Imagine fighting Titan, and then suddenly Ifrit and Garuda entered the fray.

Or if you're fighting Vaelastrasz, then suddenly Lashlayer and Chromaggus crashed in.

I never really played high-tier MMOs so the closest analogy I have is Dark Souls

I'd be fucking shitting my pants if
midway through a battle with Gwyn fuckin' Mirror Knight and Artorias blazed into the field.

Seriously this show is too fucking good. I love every episode so much (except that damn cake episode).

The art shift IRL is interesting too. Also I should have picked up earlier that the fact that
Atsuki and Shiroe were in their LH guises on the Beach meant they were still 'logged in' or whatever as opposed to being in the dream netherworld. Although it being on the Moon was a bit of a shock, lol

S2 E9

Way late on catching this episode, but it was far better than I expected. The raid boss, the adds, the extra raid bosses just showing up at 50%, and some of the revelations by the end of the episode were just great.
The bit where the moon is the test server kind of blew me away. As for finding out what caused the Apocalypse, it has been kind of hinted at for a while now and is just now in the open. Glad to see that Shiroe will also be a bit more open about this and not continue looking at those around him as pieces he could use without truly trusting them.

The idea of a third party running this game has me intrigued, because it would be quite a feat to bring in all of these players into the game world and hold them there indefinitely. I'm beginning to suspect they may never actually find a way out, even if they determine the cause of the Apocalypse and/or the people behind it.

Def looking forward to the new episode this week and what possible revelations there may if and when the raid is finally cleared.

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 10:

Right, well then, I appreciate the effort being put into the characterization of one William Massachusetts and his Silver Sword guild, but by and large this episode fell flat with me, mainly because William kept banging on about the same basic point for about 15 minutes. I get it, the raid guild got their asses nailed to the wall and the challenge seems insurmountable and since they have defined themselves by raiding they are facing the complete loss of identity. The fundamentals are all sound the problem is they did not update the execution and thus it really felt like I was reading the book, I.E. William's endless speech was some very literary storytelling that was not freshen up for the televised medium.

That hit the right spot, anyone who was ever a serious gamer would relate to William. #Fortheplayers

I actually legit tear'd up midway, the soundtrack played a huge part in this.

Yeah. This made me nostalgia hard. I wasn't a serious raider in WoW and the guild I was in was pretty casual, but when we finally completed Icecrown Citadel back in WotLK it was amazing. Made me yearn for those days. Learning new mechanics, feeling that despair when we full wiped after getting a boss to 10% , and the motivation to try it again even though it was like 3 in the morning. So good oh man.

Amazing episode and I wonder what Shiroe's plan is.

Ahdjshdkjsjdjjdjs this show is gonna make me recover my WoW account and resub.

For me it was the part where he talked about everyone looking down on them because of their gaming hobby, or how they learn more about themselves from playing.

That was some serious feelz.

Yeah that part hit home too. Same with calling them friends. Always felt weird saying dudes over the internet were my friends, but it's true. I spent more time with my guildmates than any other human beings during my wow time. And they were awesome. They will always be more than just random internet person. Still keep in touch with them too.

Great ep, never did a ton of raids but I have been a guild leader before and yeah some of that speech hit me in the feels. Was way longer than it needed to be tho

So, I'm about to ramble so I apologize in advance. I'm gonna put it behind spoilers.

How anyone enjoyed this episode is beyond me.

why did they decide to dump a massive character development for a guy no one cares about? it just seems so out of left field.

and he harps on and on and on and on and on.

for fuck's sake shut up.

If this was Shiro I may have a different opinion of the episode. but no. it's just some dude that doesn't know when to stfu. I have been in highly successful guilds, and I know about the camaraderie and the bonds you make with people. But seriously? This could have all been handled in half the time if not less.

Story catch up episode engage! lol

Yeah it was long but the feels were good and from the heart. I expect them to clear the raid next week so if that happens this episode was perfectly fine imo.

Because I have empathy for a man who I can relate to, not just a gamer but someone who has gone through roughly the same deal as him when people question your hobbies and what you love. And after hearing his story I can see where he's coming from and what he had built with his guild.

And now after this episode people have a reason to care about William, he's not just another character roped in for Shirou's sake.

Of course you can chose to not care about William, but now you have no excuse to not know why this episode is enjoyable to others.

Well said.

Maxwell you're sounding pretty cool.

Though the music might have something to do with that.

decent enough eps... dragged his point a bit too long too.

Really the only problem is, I have no clue who this guy is who appears for like 2 eps, or have any emotional attachment to this dude.

Your're learning about the council member that could have been. And after this, he'll prolly no longer be a non-council member if he really wants it.

The longest monologue in the history of anime but...there's a big part of William in me. I moved on from that life but sometimes I kinda miss it. Can't wait for next episode.

There was a super long monologue towards the end of hunter x hunter. Fifteen minutes I think.

At least this actually built towards something meaningful. The one in hunter x hunter was nonsensical.

Still could have been done in a fraction of the time though.

That was weird. I've never felt such a combination of "Fuck yeah you tell 'em" and "Holy shit ultimate cringe" before. When the inspirational music started up and then his fucking shadow self or whatever appeared behind him to add a counterpoint or whatever I was beginning to lose it.

There's also something kind of inherently weird about saying something with serious meaning and intent but peppering it with game terms like "Before I got to Level 90" or "[gaming is the only way I could learn to relate to people] by telling that they needed healing or that they really wanted that raid drop!"

Was really hoping for a subversion or semi-subversion that never came. Pity.

The monologue went on too damn long. I'd quit his guild in a second if my guild leader speak like that. Though his speech basically hurt me, I'm that anti-social guy. -_-

I liked the episode, but I'm calling shenanigans haha

they can just run past everything and go into doors? they aren't locked?

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 11:

A much better episode then last time, yea, the 15 minute I am a gamer speech is still a whole vat of the cheesiest cheese ever. Anyway, our heroes are back into the fore with an even more elaborate plan then before, requiring a lot of clockwork precision and precise timing, which happens to be Shiroe's forte. On the other hand this episode shows that Shiroe is not the best when it comes to X factors and wild cards. Still Demikas is still on his side and has gotten him to the grand prize but there is still more work to be done. Yes, I would say the secodn season is in full stride at this point.
