36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

Unreal, I've lost my skepticism.

I will go out on a limb and say this is the best looking game I have ever seen; it's hard for my eyes to behold.

Blows UC4 away visually.

It irritated me when I saw that in the video too, but RAD has stressed that the QTE's in this game are all branching for the most part, so failing just opens up another possibility in the same QTE sequence. One of the demos from before showed that off.
That is why it was more baffling. Even more so when you can get lots of bullets to the chest and a single one kills you on a cutscene.
I hope ALL of them become branching.

Dat hyperbole

...

hands down one of sexiest games i've ever seen.

This is the absolute WRONG way of doing it. It's jarring and disorienting and interrupts the flow of the gameplay. The camera should remain basically as it was, perhaps panning/zooming just a bit for emphasis, but nothing jarring camera-wise.
While i wouldnt go si far as to say its absolutely wrong... I agreed that, while subtle, the shift in camera breaks immersion. Sticking with the players camera position would be ideal.

Well, it doesn't matter how you do it, people will groan anyway. Rape and genital mutilation toward male characters in a game? Ignored because the female characters aren't protected- pull it off shelves. Female characters protected in a game? Groaning.

You don't protect them, their violence or death, and overall character are a plot piece (regardless of whether she failed to protect herself or not), or the player is meant to derive some type of pleasure in the character's plight/demise. You do protect them, you infantalize them. Of course, it's important to distinguish context, which you seem to have failed considering both a female and male member of the team received that same treatment in these specific scenes and contexts.

A lot about shitty storytelling in a largely interactive medium used to make me "groan," but these kinds of thoughtless comments produce a lot more these days. *groan* indeed.

Are you really attributing the GTA5 stuff to me? My only opinion on GTA5 is that I don't like it because it's loud, stupid, obnoxious, unpleasant, and unlikeable. That's my taste. I don't think it should be pulled from target in australia, but ultimately don't give a fuck either way.

I don't think protecting anyone in a game or in a story is necessarily bad. But I do get a bit tired of the "protect the female" thing because it's done so often. Female characters should be able to be more diverse and complex than just something for men to protect. That said, I wouldn't advocate it be pulled from store shelves for it, and I'm also more than willing to play the game and see more of the context before making a real judgement. All I did was post my reaction to that exchange in real time -- which was to groan.

this is gameplay, right? curious to know how this actually plays. game still looks absolutely amazing in terms of graphics. I'm cautiously optimistic.
It seems like the similar moments in GoW Ascension. You can dodge freely and attack when there's an opening. Kind of like a more deadly Punch Out.

Visuals among all else get a passing grade. Gameplay wise it isn't trying to be ambitious, which is fine, and almost certainly why I won't buy it at asking price.

That's pretty cool. I can deal with that. I'm gonna have to watch this tonight. I've been itching for long, actual gameplay.

From the looks of it, the Lycan is completely open. May be it's some kind of dodge/counter mechanic where the only way to succeed is to wait for the Lycan to make the first move? Hope it doesn't come down to just bullet time and button prompts.

Maybe..but UC4 is still a year off and they're targeting 60fps.

I believe UC4 will have some close quarters gameplay which will look stunning. If they hit 60fps it will be the benchmark because it will have several components - the gameplay, co-op, multiplayer and the grafix.

But The Order needs to exist and the gameplay definitely will be enjoyed by many including myself. Its so pretty - but forget about shooting people wait until those Lycan moments.

The PS4's portfolio for 2015 is sick. Period.

Looks like the game to have if you're into cinematic TPS games. The gunplay looks satisfying with some really interesting weapons. The physics look incredibly good. The voice acting and presentation are Naughty Dog level. I can't wait to play this.

Really? I'd give the nod to The Order as well but it's not a huge gulf between the two.

Theres a big difference but both games are distinct in their look. On visuals alone - The Order looks like "a bigger leap". I wish they'd get rid of those black bars tho.

It's a case of art style, presentation, and opinion. The Order is far better at it imo.

I thought UC4 looked really bland.
Exactly what you said, playing the Order 1886 made Bloodborne feel like a tedious chore. Bloodborne is probably doing itself a favor not releasing in the same month.

They release over a month apart.

I don't! I've been playing games in that aspect ratio for years and I think it looks really good.

I just got home and I'm finally watching this footage on my television via chromecast instead of on my tiny phone screen and it just dawned on me how badass these guys are. I mean rappelling down the side of a blimp in the Victorian era and then climbing around on all the cable work with london a few hundred feet below... like a boss.

The outfits and soft body cloth physics are stunning.

Impeccable environmental detailing.

Convincing voice acting.

Seamless/engaging mini-games with awesome steam punk tools.

Heavy looking weapons with severe recoil (has anyone compared this to KZ2?)

Stealth takedowns

Bloodmist

To those who played the game, is the frame rate smooth and stable? I haven't seen anyone here talking about frame rate so I am kind of curious.
Every person who has played it said it was smooth. IGN even made a point of noting it since it's been shakey on previous builds.

Keep forgetting it got delayed but even with the delay I hope that is enough time as it just still seemed really early. Someone told me it was an early build at PSX I hope that was the case.

To the current discussion I would also agree that the Order looks better than Uncharted 4 (at the moment) and depending on how the open area scenes look its going to be hard to beat the Orders visuals for a while on console.

Edited

Yes honestly feels much smoother than 30fps not sure why but it does.

When I saw the Lycan gameplay a few months ago and heard the dialog between it and Galahad I was so impressed that I watched it over a few times. Even if there are QTE's and cut scenes who wouldn't want to experience this? Stop hating. I'm giving RAD props - they're doing this coming from making PSP games.

They made those graphics - a PSP team!

This bros lockpicking skills are lacking. I feel like if it takes you that long, a guard should walk up behind the player and blow a hole in his head.

That's one thing that I love about this gen so far, a lot of the most impressive looking games are coming from teams not previously known for tech and visuals. It's really awesome to see a team like Sucker Punch who made OK looking games make a killer looking open world title and a team that hasn't worked on hardware stronger than the Wii before show the big boys how it's done.

Lol dude its one character model. It doesn't tell us anything about UC4's lighting, shadow quality, particle systems, AO, AA etc.

I don't wanna turn this into a UC4 vs The Order thread so i'll stop here but calling it "not visually impressive" is a bit weird... anyway The Order looks insanely good, how the hell they did that is beyond me. I can't wait to see some real direct feed footage.

They both look absolutely fucking turbo uber amazing in their own way.

2015 will spoil us all with visuals. That is for certain.

I'm not well versed in the tech side of things, so i'm pretty blown away by how RAD has been able to make such a fucking gorgeous game. The detail, physics, lighting, textures...everything is mindblowing

Play more games, there's a ton that fit that criteria. I'd say at least 5 or 6 of the best games of the year do. Until then, realize part of the reason certain characters are sought for rescue and/or protection can be attributed to 1. demographics, and 2. the idea that society generally cares about certain persons more- hence, allusion to gta.

But I do get a bit tired of the "protect the female" thing because it's done so often.

Kick ass fighting girl in this vid. Doesn't matter though, someone tells her, "no, save yourself!" A common cliche, that expands an array of characters in entertainment media, but because a particular character happens to be female, it just must be attributed to her gender or sex by default?
I'll reiterate- distinguishing is important.

I see. RaD should be proud of themselves. A game with gorgeous graphics, stable frame rate, and solid gameplay is a really big achievement for them :D

However, I thought I would see some more weapons in the demo :(

Heh that's probably a good call and I do agree with you that UC4 is definitely visually impressive.

On topic, what the fuck RAD. If you just showed us the first 10-15 minutes of this demo uncut I would've been sold instantly. I didn't even watch the rest of the video because I don't want spoilers now.

This is the final in-game model.

doesn't look like that in game, and the hairs are horrible! I have just watched the full panel about modelling Nathan Drake. I find the order much more impressive from every point of view. But uncharted 4 it's a one whole year away, so we'll see...

The guy playing never even picked up the Three Crown shotgun...... god that triple barrel shotgun.
