36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

Also, some direct feed would do wonders i don't know what is taking sony so long because I gotta believe RAD would get that out there if they could.
Actually, I have the impression RAD are the ones being overly protective of their game because they don't want to spoil any story details. Unfortunately, it has gotten to the point where it hurts the game's marketing.

I'm hoping for a little bit of exploration in some of the city environments with NPC's milling about it.

As for the direct feed, their marketing has been abysmal for the game. I have no clue what they are thinking.

I was more intrested in the exploration hinted at in the other parts of the game, so I really think it's down to the fact that this zepplin is too confined. The marketing has been just idk.At least it isn't on the ubisoft side of the spectrum over-saturating pre-release with 45 videos.

If I remember correctly, Galahad talks about how they had found rebels wearing either cop or guard/soldier uniforms in Whitechapel. They had obviously stolen the uniforms and perhaps using them to carry out attacks. It seems like they are trying to assassinate the "Hastings" guy (no idea who he is) on the air ship

Yeah. There's quite a bit of infiltration going on. They managed to smuggle all those prototype weapons as well. The whole thing seems a lot more interesting because you are the one killing the rebels, which normally never happens in games. It's always you rising against the authority. It's always you doing the infiltration. It's all upside down here and would be interesting to see Galahad's internal conflict as things spiral out of control.

I am actually really looking forward to this one, despite the negativity. It looks great, the story, art and setting look great and that's enough for me.

I disagree. Also, one should distinguish between what they consider "better" with regard to either aesthetic, or by my technical description.

Technically, and aesthetically, The Order looks great, but Metro at 4K would look more impressive than The Order at 900p in pretty much every aspect.
I know I'm opening a can of worms with this one but The Order renders at higher than 900p in total pixel count and because of the letterboxing there are no scaling artifacts. You still have a point, just want to clairfy that.

The irony in all this is that a non-1080p game is setting the graphics benchmark.
No scaling artifacts means a crisp image. All people really care about is content appearing at native res, not so much the numbers. As long as the game has a decent FoV and a standardized aspect ratio, I'll take letterboxing over scaling.

I asked one of the devs about it while I was there and they said they wanted to keep the demo exclusive to PSX and have no plans to officially release it in playable or video format. He said the press has enough b-roll to work with and it's up to them to use it well. Blim Blim should just slap on some of our game impressions on every segment and release the broll in all its glory

I just don't understand this. How are the characters not interesting? What do they need to do to be "interesting"? Is Nathan Drake interesting? I don't know what that means in this context. It's a never before seen setting in a game. Galahad, Percival, Lafayette and Igraine all look badass with great voice acting. The Lycan creatures show intelligence and emotion. What more do you want?

Well, we will have to wait till release then wont we. What ive seen lacks personality. Environments have moire personality than the lines of dialog coming from the characters, which has been really straightforward, mission-based type chatter. But im skipping the preorder for this one. Will wait for reviews to see if its worth it.

There's a lot of unevenness about Metro 2033. It has some great tech behind it, and good art direction, but a lot of the actual assets tend to lack in the polish that The Order seems to have. I agree with BruceLeeRoy that The Order looks better than Metro 2033 (note that I haven't played the game at 4k, but resolution is only one aspect of a game's visuals).

Does the UI bother anyone else? The game looks gorgeous, but the UI on the bottom right just seems tacky with redundant information. Why do I need a visual representation of the number of bullets left in the magazine as well as a numeric one? Why do I need such a large icon showing me what gun I'm holding? I'm also not a big fan of the crosshair style they've gone with.

Bothers me as well. I also don't like the repetive "I'm reloading" and "rebel down". I thought Galahad was actually Capt. Price from CoD.

It will be neat to see if the Order starts feeling misused, seeing as how their main focus is the halfbreeds, but the nobility has them cleaning up the rebel mess

edit: Also, I noticed that the man berating Percival during the scene where everyone is evacuating on the balloons makes reference to a hospital being damaged. The Lycan scene at E3 takes place in a hospital (medical stuff everywhere, anatomical charts, operating room, etc...) Perhaps you are introduced to the Lycans prior to chapter 5?

Ha I give it eight chapters before you're fighting on the side of the rebels. Or you find out that some great evil has infiltrated both sides of the conflict and the class warfare is just a smokescreen.

Finally getting a chance to watch this footage and I'm literally only like 1 min in, but I can't believe the shit I'm watching is in-game. Good Lord, this is the next-level shit I was waiting for.

Perhaps you are introduced to the Lycans prior to chapter 5?

That is correct. You meet the lycans right after the first rebel encounter that was shown earlier. You work your way up to the royal hospital and fight the elder lycan there. I believe the rebel encounter is chapter 3, and this is chapter 5. So we are still within 1/3rd of the story.

I'll post comparison screens from Evil Within once I get home. This FoV is substantially better than that and the bars are smaller.

TEW's bars are not smaller, they are huge and already confirmed to be bigger than The Order's (don't remember the numbers exactly)

These were my thoughts too. There're shenanigans happening in high places, I'm sure of it.

To be honest it didn't look that good during gameplay, maybe it's a cut-scene model?
But it has a much bigger scope than The Order it seems.

U4 is gorgeous , but I think The Order is still more impressive.

I was saying The Order has smaller bars and a better FoV. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Oh, sorry than. My bad.

This isn't a open world game. People should stop forcing it to be.These graphics don't support open world. There won't be exploring and collecting random bottles in islands.

I don't get it, Sony doesn't do open world. Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, RAD, etc all do incased worlds. And they all have a great atmosphere. That's what's more important to them. Those looking for a open world look at rockstar.

Expect TLOU sized environments, not AC: Unity sized environments.

Anyways.. people that are going "3rd person shooting, that has been done before.. Boring" do you 4th person shooting? Idk what next gen game play they expect from this game? Halo 5 gameplay? Batman gameplay?

These developers are obviously inspired by Naughty Dog, as well as their helping hand Santa Monica.

"Sony doesn't do open world", except for Infamous? Such a strange thing to say.

(Not that I disagree with your point about this not needing to be open world, though I would like some casual, NPC filled sections if possible.)

Poor Infamous

LOL how does nobody notice this guy assembling a sniper rifle and pointing it at everybody in the room?

LOL
That was bad.

Well.. I'm not sure what to think about the game overall.

Enemies seems aggressive, the graphics are gorgeous, but it took me quite a time to actually find a section where the guy was actually playing it. The gameplay also doesnt feel any special, the gunplay seems ok, but not sure if it is very satisfying, specially with such closed rooms just to point and shoot while in cover... I mean, theres no room for traversal, or to surprise your enemies and stuff. Maybe its just that area.

Still interested. But I have to say that my initial hype about this game was actually expecting something else, much more special.

It seems to me that Uncharted will keep the crown for the best Playstation TPS.
Not that I would ever expect something different though... Uncharted is just too good!

the order as we see it now (nearly finished) looks considerably better, visually, than UC4 as we saw it at PSX, which is a game probably a year away. UC4 probably will get a bit prettier and probably has prettier areas than what we saw in the demo, but from what we've seen so far, the order looks clearly better. there's just no question in my mind.

the order is probably one of the best looking games of all time. not sure what compares, but it'd definitely be a short list.

I actually think some of the rooms are of decent size considering they're on an airship. As for surprise, check out the official kitchen fight video. Even in that cramped space, there's at least one point where Galahad gets the drop on a rebel, runs along the side and flanks them.

And I know it's hard to believe, but the guy is actually playing the game from near the very beginning. All that rappelling stuff is gameplay. Not the most exciting or action-packed gameplay but gameplay nonetheless.

Nobody said the words open world until you did. What I was suggesting is exactly as you said, TLOU sized environments, maybe even bigger city areas as seen in the concept art

The-Order-1886_Concept-Art-1.jpg

Stuff like this is not out of the question, and it's been confirmed there are more open areas with NPC's. I'd like to explore these areas casually, go into some buildings and explore the story and soak in the atmosphere. Not in an open world fashion, but more like Arkham Asylum, or the village in Uncharted 2.

Better as in makes your jaw drop. I guarantee you show someone Metro running at 4K they won't all of a sudden think they are looking at a leap in visuals.
Contrast that with The Order where as you watch even blur off-screen footage you can't help but marvel at how close it looks to CG.

I wish the Devs could just play this demo for us.
I couldn't get over how bad the player was.

what does sony have to gain by being so stingy about showing the game? they seem to have a knack for making the game look less exciting than it is. if they just posted a longer playthrough the game would sell itself far better. just look at this thread.

I dont know... Uncharted 4 has some awesome foliage, also the characters models looks more real. And Uncharted 4 have much bigger environments.

The Order looks stunning, and its atmosphere seems pretty damn immersive. But overall I think U4 still stands out as the best looking game overall.

Sony's been putting its devs on a tight leash this gen in terms of sharing info and footage. My biggest complaint with them right now.

The visuals are amazing. Now that is some next-gen level graphics right there. The video convinced me to get this in february. I only wish it had a little more to it's combat mechanics like a dodge roll or some other actions that you can perform that would make the minute-to-minute combat more interesting. They really should have shown something like this a lot earlier.

Yeah I'd really love some this sort of stuff as well.

Really excited for the plot in general.

Was Infamous a similar deal? I can't remember right now. But I feel like the launch titles got plenty of exposure before release.

Honestly I think The Order has been a troubled production. Not troubled in a DOOMED sense but in a TLoU sense, where things have come together very slowly, and we haven't seen much of the game because the developers are working so hard on it that they don't have much time to put together demos or trailers. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that, like TLoU, this is a game that has only really come together in the last few months. These are very ambitious games with a lot of moving parts, so I'm willing to cut them some slack on the bad marketing.

And the upshot is now we have this cool-looking game that we know nothing about and it's only a couples months or so away from release.

You know, I understand that neogaf users are a part of the 1%; as in we are better than 99% of the people who buy games. But this guy had to easily be the bottom 20%. I mean, he literally forgot who he marked as a spy 5 seconds after he looked at them; he literally missed a hallway to his right and got lost; he couldn't mash L3 and R3 at the same time which is the same level of difficulty as playing pong from the 70s. The fact that he was an attendee at Playstation Experience makes it even more mystifying.
