Yeah, they struck gold with FFXII. Easily FF's best voice acting. Unfortunate that that they never could get that quality back.
Balthier was SO good. Though I have to say, Fran's voice was extremely annoying.

Based on the way Baker speaks about FF13 these days + his newfound fame, one wonders if he'd even go back if asked!
This is definitely just a dub over the trailer footage, anyway, as the footage is identical - I wonder if there's a running build with any English yet?
I feel like Japanese voice come as more natural while the English ones are like someone told me what's this character like so I'll act like him. Like you know from the get go who's who and what's he like.
Sounds better than FF XIII at least.
Really poor voice direction out of SE once again. What happened after FF12?
That's not saying much. XIII's VA direction was horrendous.
I don't see how you can say this if you don't understand Japanese.
If they have enough time to do some VO are they likely farther along with the game than we all think?
Also I don't think the direction was the only issue. Some of the talent had no ability to do voice acting.
Now that you mention it, he kinda sounds like Dissidia's Squall. Same VA maybe?
I can read subtitles though.
Noctis isn't Johnny Yong Bosch.
My prayers are answered.
Which is weird, because his Japanese voice is easily the most obnoxious. His English voice matches him really well.Best of the bunch is definitely Prompto.
Noctis sounds nothing like that.
If anything he sounds like Raiden on his Jack the Ripper persona, like the other guy said.

For what it's worth, I'm guessing these lines were just recorded for this trailer rather than the dialog taken from the finished recordings. It happened with XIII; the voice acting in the final game was a lot better than some of the early English trailers.
Also yeah I thought the English acting for XIII was really good for the most part. XIII-2 and Lightning Returns, not so much
Oh lord, Ignis Voice.
<3
That's not saying much. XIII's VA direction was horrendous.
I like Prompto, and Ignis is okay once you get past the accent, but Noctis' and Glad's growly Batman voices are killing me.
About Balthier voice actor. He was great in FF XII but since playing Dragon Age 2 where he voiced Fenris I started to hate him. Mostly because I hated Fenris and everything about him including the voice and music which was so pretentious.
Sounds a tad generic but that's what happens when most of the cast are Americans *shrug*
Should have gone all British like Xenoblade/FFXII.
he did his job well. Fenris was a real dick.
I generally don't like to judge an entire game's voice acting based on a 2 minute trailer. Seems fine to me. Square Enix puts a lot more into their localizations than most other companies, which people don't really seem to give them credit for. FFXIII fixed the lip sync problem, yet I've never heard anyone mention that as a strong point in the game despite years of complaints about that.
English voices will always sound weird if you've heard Japanese first. I'm sure the final product will be fine. Just like how the XIII trilogy and XII had good quality voices (I'm saying this independently of the quality of the script for certain games, of course).
I study Japanese and all, but I get really tired of people acting like listening to English dubs of these games would literally make their ears bleed. I only insist on Japanese audio if the dub is legitimately bad.
they are so emo
Xenoblade has fantastic VA.Jesus, no. Uughh...

It's about direction, not what I heard first. I don't like reading subs anymore so generally unless the dub is absolutely awful I just grit my teeth and sit through it. Doing it right now with AC Unity, actually, because the British accents annoy me but the lip syncing doesn't match in French.
In any case though Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Panty & Stocking are all shows I don't enjoy watching in Japanese because the English actors actually sound like people and not "I AM VOICE ACTING" actors like the ones in this trailer, thanks to the direction.
tl;dr people don't like it because it sounds bad, not because they heard it in Japanese first
