Final Fantasy XV - Jump Festa Active Time Report information + video

so if there are playable guest characters in the game (like Cor Leonis)

doest that mean, there is a chance to play with a girl? even if its only for a limited time and area :/

Everything is looking good but I hope the combat holds up.

Also Cid's design is something else lol.

I agree with you on culture, but Vanille and Hope's cringe worthy dialogue is not a reflection of a good narrative. I hope the same mistakes can be avoided this time around.

What the heck are you ever talking about? "Put some North American in your writing"?! We don't even know what 90% of the story and characters are like yet! I've seen plenty of great writing from Japanese both in games and other media, and Square. I don't think that even has anything to do with anything.

You go from generalizing all Japanese writing to FF13 writing which was a low barometer to start and then go off on a tangent about "Western culture". Yeah, SE, don't even listen to the Bird.

I don't mind the design, but I do feel like they could had done without the bikini.

A cropped tank top/tube top would've worked just as much.

Man, been so busy today. Just caught up reading all the info.

How will Titan being the same size when you summon it work in gameplay? I think they're going to have to re-consider this aspect. Or maybe it's just lost in translation?

The sleeping mechanic we already knew was connected to experience and levelling. But it also gives you status buffs that can be maintained for days (!) if you sleep every night. This is interesting. Buy some Cactuar soup, have it at a bonfire, and be in constant haste buff for 3 days.

The town looks amazing. Diverse, lively, and would be a joy to just explore. I also liked that snowy scene. More variation in locations, the better.

We saw a new set of soldiers in this trailer. We also saw some new weapons. The warp gauge is back. The left command menu was hidden though. I wonder if they're planning to have anything there at all?

I like her design for what she's meant to do. She's important for the journey, not for the story, so she doesn't need to have an impeccable design, I'm okay with the way she looks :)

Unless I'm mistaken, the summoned beasts in FFXV seem more like a set piece for action sequences and boss battles as opposed to something you can utilize. If they are something you can use (maybe after you defeat them in these sequences?), there will probably be an animation that plays which does damage/causes an effect and then the summon disappears similar to VI, VII, VIII, or IX as opposed to it maintaining a presence on the field like X, XII, or XIII.

Host: (reading fan question) "The Titan is huge! Can players use it? Will it be that size when players summon it?"

Tabata: Did I say it was a summon?

Host: Anybody can tell that that's Titan.

Tabata: I guess so. Well, that... That's Titan. And it's a summon, and we're planning on it being usable at that size, but with summons in XV – you saw them fighting Titan [in the trailer] – you have to fight them like that, or you obtain them in other ways. Basically, you're going to obtain them through different methods.

Host: I see.

Tabata: And, well, talking about Titan, we actually wanted to put it in the demo and let players actually use it and talk about that.

Hote: Yes.

Tabata: Unfortunately, it turns out Titan is a summon that plays a rather important role in the plot, so we're putting a different summon in Episode Duscae to show players what happens when you tame one or when you use one. So we're putting the prototype of the summon system in the demo, so I hope people can actually try it out and see what it's like.

Host: So, Titan will not be in the demo?

Tabata: No. But we have a different summon prepared.

Host: And you can summon it and use it in battle?

Tabata: Yes.

Host: I see.

Tabata: We selected a summon that isn't integral to the story, but is still flashy and put that in the demo, so I think people will be rather surprised.
Host: (reading fan question) "Seamless towns! So will the entire game be seamless?"

Tabata: Before we talk about the towns being seamless, the town looked pretty good, right?

Host: What did everyone think about the town?

*audience applause*

Tabata: Thank you. So you see the characters approach the town in their car and they get out and enter the town, so that part is all seamless. But as to whether the entire game is seamlessly connected like that, that's what we're trying to do in development, but it may turn out that for important places there will be loading. But in terms of what's offered in the demo, everything is seamless, so you can get the feel that this entire world is connected.

Host: I see. Speaking of which, what can you tell us about that town? The name and such.

Tabata: Well, the name of the town is Resukarunu, and it's actually fairly close to the area in the demo.

Host: So it's in the Duscae region?

Tabata: The Duscare region. And it's actually a very important town that has something to do with Titan that we showed earlier. And it's big. But it's not the biggest town. So there's a lot of information in that town, so you can't go there in the demo, but I do want people to see what sort of town it is, so I'll probably release some information separate from the demo.

Host: In towns, in standard RPGs, you can go shopping, or rest in an inn, or gather information, right?

Tabata: Yes.

Host: Can you do all that in towns [in Final Fantasy XV]?

Tabata: You can do all of it.

Host: I see.

Tabata: It's not an "inn" so much as a "hotel."

Host: Well, yes, with those graphics

Tabata: You can rest in hotels, have meals, go shopping, and other events will occur.
Host: (reading fan question) "Don't the battles always seem to take place in the same locations?" You know, I've noticed that, too.

Tabata: Me too. The reason is very simple. The first locations you saw were the most developed.

Host: I see.

Tabata: The other [locations] aren't that well developed yet. They'll gradually get more detailed, so please give us a little more time.

Host: (reading fan question) "You said 'you have to sleep at camps or you'll face debuffs' and it keeps me awake at night wondering what you meant."

Tabata: Do people know what a "debuff" is?

Host: "Debuff" is gamer lingo. Basically what you would call a "bad status."

Tabata: An abnormal status.

Host: Yes.

Tabata: The way it works is, if you don't sleep for long periods, you don't get a negative status – rather it's the opposite. "Buffs" are statuses with positive effects, and you stop getting those. Basically, things like increased spirits or feeling good or other added bonuses stop getting applied if you don't sleep for long periods of time.

Camping is one of the base features of XV. It's a world where time passes from morning to night, so in order to have Noctis and the others who inhabit it be more than just puppets, but living characters players can feel empathy towards, if you have them remain awake all the time, I thought it would be more effective if that was a bad thing.

Host: I see.

Tabata: Also, not only by making camp and eating do you get positive effects, but you gain experience points through combat, right?

Host: Yes.

Tabata: By resting, those experience points get converted to levels. So camping is actually very important, which is why I said what I did – although I don't remember if I used the term "debuff" or not.

Host: I see. So, you gain levels by sleeping, which means if you don't sleep, your levels don't increase. So, this is an action RPG, so if players wanted to try to a low-level playthrough, all they have to do is not sleep.

Tabata: Yes. Players who don't want to increase their levels should avoid sleeping.

Host: It's like a sweatshop.

Tabata: But I mentioned earlier that Cor is not in his 20s, but Noctis and the others are young men, so they can probably go about 3 days without sleeping. But if they were to go, say, 5 days or 10 days without sleep, they would never be in top condition.

Host: At TGS, you said one day in the game was about 30 minutes in real time, right?

Tabata: Yes.

Host: Is that still the same?

Tabata: It's currently about an hour. We'll probably tweak it a little more before the demo comes out, but we're in the middle of balancing the game between the length of each day and leveling.

Host: I see.

Tabata: Up to about 2 weeks ago, it was a little longer, but it's currently about 1 hour. Daytime is about 40 to 45 minutes and the rest is night. Something like that.

Host: So, saying you have to sleep [in the game] doesn't mean you have to sleep every day, but that you'll be fine for a few days without resting.

Tabata: Yes. In fact there are some placed where you have to keep fighting for multiple days.
Host: (reading fan question) "A train? A train?" I'm not sure if this is a question.

Tabata: Did you notice [the train]?

*Section cut because Tabata accidentally drops his earpiece receiver*

Tabata: Well, there's something of an event in a train – it's a very snowy scene in the trailer.

Host: Yes.

Tabata: That's not just an event scene, but somewhere in the world, there's a place that you get to by train.

Host: So it's something you ride? It actually moves?

Tabata: Yes. Not only that, but you can move freely inside the train. I don't know if everyone's taken trips on a train before, but there is a scene where they go by train.
Host: (reading fan question) "Cidney-tan."

Tabata: I'm sorry, what am I supposed to answer there?

Host: Well, just who is she?

Tabata: Ah. Well, her name is "Cid"-ney, so that should give you an idea. But in terms of who she is to the player, well, she isn't integral to the story, rather she's integral to the player's adventure – she's a mechanic who supports your travels. What she works on, you can probably guess [from the trailer]

Host: That's who she is.

Host: (reading fan question) "You haven't shown much magic, but what's going on?"

Tabata: Magic has been delegated to the later stages of development. To be absolutely honest, there is a prototype of course, and the battle system has been made, and we'll be brushing up the graphics before releasing the final product. So for combat we make the basic system, brush up the graphics, and what we do next is add all the different actions that occur in battle, so at the moment, the magic looks kind of disappointing. That's why we haven't shown it yet.

Host: So it's just that the look hasn't been completed yet.

Tabata: Yes, and before the magic, we made a prototype summon, and players will be able to try that out first. So magic will probably come after that. The brushing up.

Host: I see.

Tabata: Also – I'm not sure if I can say this – in the world of XV, Noctis is the only one who can use magic.

Host: Yes.

Tabata: He's the only one with magic abilities. But as a game, having only Noctis be able to use magic doesn't really work, so we're implementing a rather unique system so that everyone in the party can use magic.
Host: The English language trailer was released, but will the Japanese version of the game contain English as well?

Tabata: This is about the full game?

Host: This is about both the full game and the demo.

Tabata: Well, the demo is going to be released globally all with the same content. The reason for that is, basically with the languages, for the audio, we've got the Japanese and English voice tracks, and for subtitles, not only do we have Japanese, but we have English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish. And for the final product we'll probably have more, and we actually have all these languages ready, and we can fit all these in the ROM data. The demo is relatively small in size, so the demo will contain everything. But for the full game there's the issue of size, and scheduling which we need to clear in order for it to contain everything, which is what I want, but if [the full game] comes out and it doesn't have everything, just assume 'he couldn't do it.'

Host: That's your homework. So the demo will contain both English and Japanese tracks and all the subtitles.

Tabata: Yes.

Host: And for the full game, it depends on how far you can go.

Tabata: It's not just me. It depends on how far the entire team can go to make a universal game, or if we'll have to have region-specific versions. Basically, we're aiming for a multi-regional game.

My expectation regarding summons is that they will do a giant AoE attack like classical pre-FFX versions.

Having them around in full size could be super limiting to the game.

But hey if they can do it..awesome!

Eh. I've seen plenty of male mechanics that aren't all that different from her in terms of wardrobe or exposed skin when working. An automobile mechanic ain't Formula car engineers, it's not uncommon that they're rough around the edges.

Having a sexy design is completely separate from the functionality of her job.

The way he talks about the demo makes it sound like it's almost finished for me. I think that the demo will be available for everyone on March 20th probably to make sure everyone has access to it at the same time (though they may release it on March 17th (NA), 19th (JP) and 20th (EU) like Type-0) and I'm optimistic about it, so I want to believe that worst case scenario is the demo coming out up to a month later than Type-0 :)

Well, I think I know what my GOTY of 2016 will be :p

I love everything they've shown off so far, including the English voice acting.

No chance for a 2015 release, right? :/
I want to play it so badly!

Hope the game WILL have a voice option.

I think the battle that we saw in the trailer could have been from the demo. It was clearly the Duscae region...and it seemed to he one of those disabled events.

I think they will release it simultaneously in Japan and US but a realistic expectation for a release date now is Spring-Summer 2016. Then KH3 in Fall of 2016
believe

I actually think we may see XV at around May-June 2016 and KHIII in December 2016, but that would be heaven, so KH will probably slide to 2017 >..<

Funny enough, about a month or two ago SE published their release plans and both FFXV and KHIII were stated for next fiscal year (April 2015 - March 2016) and I can see NONE of them making it in time lol

we just had the Cindy has really exposed cleavage discussion for like 30 pages in the other FFXV thread, not here too please! >_<

Where the fuck are you taking your car that the mechanics run around with bathing suits and lots of exposed skin?

Malaysia. :/

I work in the lubricants business. I'm not a frontliner, but I meet with mechanics, workshop owners, distributors, on a monthly basis.

Mechanics range from the highly professional 'uniformed' to the sloppy 'uniform unbuttoned' ones. And I said 'ain't all that different.' Doesn't mean they're wearing swim suits, because all the mechanics I've met are guys.

I've even seen some that walks barefooted. Crazy, I know.

Not a fan of this resting system at all and being punished by not engaging in it. I guess a current comparison would be using bonfires to level up in Dark Souls? You didn't get negative effects for bailing on it, though. :/

From the interview, the "punishment" doesn't seem very heavy actually. You only lose the buff you get from food you cooked in camp gradually without resting every 3 hours of game time or so.

And besides, real man fight the forces of hell empty stomach.

so if there are playable guest characters in the game (like Cor Leonis)

doest that mean, there is a chance to play with a girl? even if its only for a limited time and area :/
You don't have control over guest characters, but that DOES mean there's a chance girls could join the party for a limited time and special events.

It's possible that we get to tweak their gambit setting and do unique group combo with them. So in that sense, you have some degree of control over them. :p

It seems that what she is meant to do is serve as wank material for the stereotypical male gamer that the developers are targeting.

Its a pretty egregiously pandering design, but hopefully there will be female characters in the game who serve more of a purpose than that.

So, should we talk about her ass hanging out of her shorts instead?

I'm sad that Cidney will not be "integral" to the story. I mean we might see her from time to time but it would have been awesome for the first female Cid to kick some ass. Oh well, anything is possible!

If you go a while without sleeping, the stat boosts you get from foods and such will lose their effect.

The sleep element has been added to further emphasize that these characters are living people, so they’ll need to get rest just like any normal human. You can eat meals at camp for extra status effects.

You’ll need to take a breather in order to level up. So basically, if you don’t rest at a camping area, you won’t level up. This will make it possible for people to challenge themselves at beating the game at a low level.

You can go three days without sleeping, but any longer than that and you’ll begin to see negative effects.

I really really like this.

At some point it will prevent you from leveling.
Lack of sleep also prevents you from leveling to some extent. Noctis himself is young, though, so he can get by with out three days without rest.

I really like her design, probably my favorite so far.

Yeah. Again, I love her design. Cidney-tan's great.
