Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

I tried playing it again today and it stacks memory into the FC4 process like crazy after 1-2 hours of gameplay.

And still, no patch... It's okay to put a broken piece of shit on the market that's still broken and infested with new issues after 5 patches, it's okay

From a goobysoft community manager regarding the memory leak that's been out as a free dlc since 8th of december :

"This is an issue we are aware of and are currently working to fix. Thank you for your understanding."

Cool story bro

The game is playing really smoothly for me now.. very pleased with it. I guess I'm not getting any memory leaks either, because I can play for hours without a crash.

I noticed this too the other day. Afterburner showed around 4GB when I started the game, but after playing a couple of missions it was more than 11GB!!!

Another strange 'feature' I notice now and then is when I die, the loading sometimes takes very long. And when I say long, I mean three, four times as long as the game took to load in the first place!

Driving any kind of vehicle in this game is a chore. Texture streaming issues deluxe.
I suppose that's the issue in any case. Stutters annoyingly much when you're driving around. Or while flying for that matter. Otherwise it's pretty solid since the latest beta driver from nvidia. Before the patches and the drivers it would stutter if you had a framerate over 60 (using a 144Hz monitor so I more than gain from it), but now I don't have to cap the framerate for it to not stutter while on foot.

Fix the stuttering/texture streaming issues while driving as well and I'll be pleased.
Oh! The mouse acceleration has to be completely removed too. The fix over at reddit did wonders in this aspect.

The Nvidia beta drivers give me much better performance. However, it was causing the game to crash to the main menu after 10 minutes or so of play.

Back to stuttering land I go.

I had an issue where I could not grapple anything. Dying a few times fixed it.

Oh wow, I just realised I had a complete brain fart last night. You don't use W and S to go up and down cliffs, it's the left and right mouse buttons >.>

The game's fine, everyone!

Another week gone without a live update/patch to fix the memory leak that renders the game unplayable.

The game's ok.

Refund, I hope these fucking ........... go bankrupt

Setting the textures to high uses as much VRAM as ultra according to msi afterburner. Or just about as much. But! The game is 98% free from stuttering now. Sometimes while driving a vehicle over a large area it stutters for a fraction of a second, but it's not annoying this way.

EDIT: Scratch that. Jumped the gun. It's still annoying and too frequent.

So...my game keeps crashing in the same damn spot in the beginning when you're trying to sneak to the tower after the crash. I thought it might be the new OC I was trying on my cards. But now I'm back at the stock BIOS and old OC I was running, and I tried the game again today. Lo and behold, the game crashes in the exact same spot.

I'm getting no artifacts, no crazy temps on my cards, solid 60fps...and then nothing. Is this a known issue? I'll probably try reinstalling it when I have some time.

Is there any way to use SMAA with an SLI setup? I'd get much better performance with that instead of MSAA or TXAA, but it gives me a temporal image anytime I try to use it.

EDIT: Nevermind. OP addressed it.

I can't even get this game to start - immediate crash to desktop (CTD) and I've tried it on two gaming PCs (both NVIDIA). I have re-downloaded, verified, ran as administrator - WTF? I received it free with a Samsung SSD so I'm not as pissed - but how are all of you guys playing? This is pissing me off. You can't even really search on how to fix it as there are so many variants of my problem, lol. I guess I'll just wait 6 months for patches. What a joke.

Copying it to an AMD gaming PC now...hopefully that'll work. Otherwise I quit. F this game.
EDIT: ARRRGH...can't even F'n copy files from one box to another and the fix that I found (granted, it's for another Uplay game) doesn't work. F U UBI. Re-downloading 30+ GB again. What a joke.

Don't waste your time man, you'll regret it once you make the game work.

They've implemented as a free DLC a memory leak that fucks the game after 1-2 hour of playing, it injects useless space into your RAM until the game lags/crashes.

And this attitude, not a single live update on this problem and on the next patch is fucked up

Sounds like software incompatibility is likely. Close all utilities you have running and unplug any USB devices you don't require.

I had to download the entire game twice in order to get it to work, and then was greeted with flickering textures and temporal images during gameplay. The first time I downloaded the game I was told the problem was with a C++ redistributable. I could never fix that problem, so I said fuck it and ran a Uplay repair which then proceeded to re-download the entire game again. I let it do its thing, even if having to download a 30+ GB game twice in one day is bullshit.

After the "repair" (re-download is more like it) finished I was able to boot the game and finally play it. That's when I was hit with all the in-game graphical garbage. Thanks to this thread I've finally managed to make the game run pretty much issue free. Maybe your second download will give you similar results as mine.

Thanks guys. I'm trying on this AMD rig and then that's it.

Could be a software issue - I run the same config across all boxes. Frustrating when other "big" games work flawlessly (BF4).
- MSI Afterburner is not running (I alt-tab and start after, if anything)
- Steam or Origin is about the only thing, if anything, running.
- Using Windows Defender for AV
- Using Fortinet FortiWifi 90D (next culprit) for IDPS/FW/etc.

But again - no probs with other big games. It sucks dealing with Ubi + Uplay together. Both are so inept.

EDIT: same deal on the AMD system. I give up. See you guys in 6 months.

I'm using the beta drivers, and the game finally feels smooth. I'm getting about 55-70 fps with everything maxed out at 3440x1440 (980 SLI). With just one 980, I get about 30-40fps.

I still didnt install those beta drivers yet, are they really that good for fc4?

I didn't really see any differences on my 770...

I'm stuck between setting the game to high-ish to get a somewhat almost stable 60fps or cap the game at 30 and put everything to ultra.

Ended up capping it to 30.

Oh and I still have to disable the mipmap no matter what.

Playing on a 970, it's pretty much playable now. Still some minor dips but nothing compared to before. Played a few hours without it bothering me.

I cant stand setting the mipmap to 1, it borks the textures, completely, but eliminates the stutter.

And there is also the memory leak that is driving me crazy.

Running at Ultra, I get a framerate between 46-60 fps but its mostly 60 fps even outside. Where it tend to dip is when the place starts to get foggy I decreased the Environment setting to High and it did help a bit but it still dips...its not unplayable though the gameplay is smooth as silk.

Game is running on an SSD so loading times are little to none.

Just had another 3hr session tonight. Smooth gameplay.. no memory leaks or crashes. It's working really good on my end (overclocked GTX 970).

Has anyone else had trouble recording this game with Shadowplay? I just recorded some 10 minute clips and parts of them are smooth but some parts skip several frames. I haven't had this issue with any other game so far and it bums me out because it wrecked my awesome molotov throw:

You can still see what's going on but it's far too framey ;_;

That's basically how the game has been for me since day one, the patches haven't fixed anything for me.

Are people that are still having significant problems running on Windows 7? Just curious if it's another game optimised for DX11.2 to the detriment of W7 performance.

something strange happened to me last night while i was playing the game..

i got a constant 60fps throughout my playtime, but last night somehow after 10 minutes of playtime, my fps drops to 30fps for around 3 second when there is nothing heavy going on..

never experienced this before,, but it drops quite frequently,, it drops when i was driving, or just looking at the scenery.. strange thing is, it doesnt look like any other FPS drop.. it drops and runs at exactly 30fps for 3 to 5 seconds, then jumps back to 60fps..

weird...

gtx 980

Check your RAM usage, it was was running like that because the game has a memory leak

Added hotkey for toggling the HUD on/off (F11)
Fixed an issue when the game loaded incorrect save from Uplay Cloud
Fixed an issue with performance drop for Crossfire Multi-GPU
Fixed an issue with broken shadows in the northern region
Fixed various Controls issues
Fixed various Graphic issues
Fixed various IGE issues
Fixed various UI issues
Fixed various Uplay/Steam issues
Memory usage reduced

I highlighted the last one since it's their sweet way to say they patched the memory leak.

Anyway, from the patch notes you can clearly see that they "fixed various issues".

Got tired of waiting for them to patch the Nvidia SLI issues, so I ended up playing and beating it on one card. I really don't expect them to ever fix the problem.

Thankful for the HUD on/off hotkey. I wish more games would do that.

The memory leaks have been bothering me for a while now. If I die and reload more than twice, the game drops to single digit frames and the world loads slowly for a bit before resuming normal performance.

1.3GB o_o

Hoping the memory leak is fixed; haven't played since the last time it happened to me.

Yeah about that... After a little while I ended up going back to ultra/30fps and mipmap... The performance were better after the patch but I was still having a tough time maintaining 60fps so I said fuck it.

What are your specs if you don't mind me asking? The hitching is what I'm most concerned about and what I'm waiting to hear has been fixed before I buy.
