Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

You are in a bad mood aren't you.

Biggest problem with Halo 5 at the moment is sprint, people should be focusing on raising that issue first.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but regardless of whatever level of stink you raise about sprint, it will be in the final game. You should focus your efforts on something that might actually get changed. Think things like flinch, etc.

I don't need them saying "I'm reloading Snipes".
It makes the game feel more alive to me. None of my friends have ever liked Halo so I've been solo and this makes it less lonely and more situational awareness, and this is something I've been asking about since Halo 3 so I'm happy to have it in.

It has been confirmed that flinch will be removed.

It is very clear sprint has not been balanced. Why should we let the single biggest problem about Halo 5 slide in a beta 10 months before launch.

This "they aren't going to remove it so don't worry about it" attitude does not help resolve the situation.

Yup, having team mates give call outs without anyone actually communicating is great! Definitely helps with situational awareness.

First, not all people hate sprint, ex. JaggedSac.

Second, they will not remove sprint. That is a certainty. They may tweak it with changes to speed, shield recharge penalty length, etc, but spending time asking for its removal is a waste of time. At this point, if you don't like sprint, I would suggest finding some other game to play. Halo has sprint now, sorry.

And yes, I know flinch has been removed, that is why I provided it as an example.

I don't think sprint is a problem.

Wish the game wouldn't show ranks until after the match. Would probably prevent people from backing out in the lobby.

Yea, I feel like a lot of people back out the second they see Onyx or above.

And yea, I can count on one hand the times someone has used sprint to get away, total non issue, it's been nerfed in a lot if different ways.

Clamber and sprint are the changes that ruin the game for me. I could deal with a delayed smart scope and even thrusters if those other changes weren't included. There looks to be no jumps that you can crouch on to, everything is set to clamber height and elongated for sprint.

For example in Truth it does not look like you can jump from red/blue 1 to red/blue 2 or jump into either window without clambering. Why did they have to remove skilled map traversal?

Wow, it must be opposite day

*checks calendar*

Seriously, clamber, dash and sprint is what makes the game for me. I never gave a shit about prior games.... partly because I was terrible at them lol

So apparently personal performance is not a factor at all in determining ranks. The only things that matters are wins/losses and your level of competition.

Personally, I think that is stupid. It should factor in everything. Not just a Win/Loss but also personal performance. How many kills did you get? How many times did you die? How many assists did you get (this determines whether you're being a team player and assisting team mates)? And then lastly, did you Win? All of that should be factored in when dealing with Ranks.

Or just do it Halo 2 Style where it just says "Player Matched" with a yellow square until all slots are full then you can't back out while it loads the map.

Basing completely on win/loss is definitely how it should be in a team playlist.

They should not penalize CSR for quitting though. Unless they forgot what happened in Halo 2 with derankers. Should go with timeout based penalties or placing them in a turds only matchmaking group for a day or so.

I don't think sprint is a problem.

Yeah but from what I've seen you don't think any gameplay aspect of Halo 5 is a problem.

I love the thrusters by the way, and clamber. The aiming is difficult which is excellent and has made for some fun encounters unlike H2A. I don't think there is a problem with ground pound, it's just a bit gimmicky that's all. I'm not being salty for no reason here.

The point is that the game would be so much better with smaller maps and no sprint.

I think what they've down with Sprint is very balanced. And this is coming from someone who uses the hell out of mobility in halo 4. I'm one of the ones who loves being able to Sprint into or out of a battle but with the shield recharge time being reset every time you press the button it really does force you to stop for a second.

It's good for when I've walked up on three guys and know I need to bail before I fight a losing battle. And I've certainly been punished for not stopping to let my shield recharge back. Personally I love the way how fluid the game feels with Sprint and thruster, and you're certainly gonna lose to someone who knows how to play and shoot a BR just like always if you use them wrong.

You shouldn't have a get out of jail free card for putting yourself in a bad position. There's no reason to walk into a 3 on 1 if you're using proper teamwork and callouts.

Being ranked onyx in Australia is the worst. You get matched with onyx US players who just destroy you. :(

I feel your pain.

You should have died here for being in a bad spot, alienated from team mates in the first place. Halo 5 has far too many cat and mouse situations.

Welp, that confirms it. Really don't like the ranking system in this game.

Just been thinking about this now, and it really has me scratching my head at what the hell they were thinking. Sure, have it largely based off of wins and losses, it promotes teamwork and really makes winning a focus for the team. However completely disregarding your performance is just silly.

Take this scenario, two people are the same rank and the same team. Their team wins the match. Player 1 gets 20 kills, 10 assists, 3 deaths. Player 2 gets 5 kills, 3 assists, 10 deaths.

With this system they both rank up by exactly the same.

How in the hell does that make any sense?

I don't by any means think the game is perfect, I just don't have any major problems with the game on a mechanical side.

Some of the issues I would like to see addressed:

- Grenades need some massive tweaking, far too much grenade spam at the moment.

- The pistol needs a buff and the AR a slight debuff.

- They seriously need to sort out the visibility of Truth, you can hardly see the blue guys.

- The control scheme needs to be adapted to allow for crouch jump.

- Truth needs some tweaks as I've found it quite often devolves into standoffs at the red and blue bends.

- I wouldn't be against removing motion tracker.

- Slide and charge are completely pointless.

Maybe, or maybe they're not really that great of a team if the three of them combined cannot shoot me down. They all have the same options as me, why should I "deserve" to be killed. Being able to get out of a bad situation is a skill just like any other. I can do it in the halos without Sprint too

People are complaining about clambering? I'm convinced you guys will bitch about everything lol

It removes skill jumping. I've probably made the shortcut jump on lockout thousands of times. At the same time I'd say I've missed it hundreds of times and every time (outside of lag) it was my fault and I deserved to fall to my death. But it's cool now because I can always clamber and not be punished :)

I'm a big fan of sprint. It's really fun to navigate the upper platforms at full speed on Empire for base invasions. I think you'll get used to it in time. Evasion should be a part of all competitive shooters.

There still is skill jumping though. The ground pound hover jump can do some amazing things. For example, you can make the jump from bottom floor of Truth to red/blue 2 with a jump and then a well timed ground pound hover + clamber.

How do you air stomp?

In the air hold right stick, aim it and release to stomp. If the indicator is red, you are not high enough, if it's white, then you should ground pound when you release. You can't just jump and stomp, but if you are on the second story and see someone beneath you, then it's ideal.
