People will fight to the death to defend their ability to feel like they're superior to others.

It also doesn't help that we have a culture trained to hate the idea of getting help from anyone. Especially the systems designed, in theory, to help citizens.
 
I haven't even tuned into the gamergate nonsense. All I know (and need to know) is virgins mad about some girl who had sex and didn't offer herself to them. So they make up a bunch of random shit and do all kinds of heinous shit and say it's about ethics.

Exactly. The part that's killing me though, is that I actually like considering myself as a gamer. I treat it as an art form. But I don't want to be associated with the people who are acting out their temper tantrums and putting people's lives in danger just because they are critical about their damn games.

Makes me sick.

For me it's something that I can't, in good conscience, ignore. The amount of abuse and harassment that anyone in the public eye faces for speaking out against them and the fact that it's been sustained ever since August makes it a part of gaming I'm deeply concerned about. I mean, these fucks are trying to get SWAT teams sent to people's homes in the hopes that someone will be killed. Talking about shooting up places because of a speaker. Disseminating personal information online so people are forced out of their homes. All other kinds of threats that, at this point, can't be simply dismissed as "lol trolls" without possibly putting someone in danger. All over fucking video games.

There's something very ugly in the culture surrounding gaming, and if any good has come from this, it's that people are finally having to confront it and talk about it. But yeah. Shit just makes me sad.

I'm not a gamer at all. I refuse to even remotely be associated with this idiocy. I mean, this is literally going to get someone raped and or killed over some video game bullshit. Fuck GamerGate in the hole it crawl out of.

Truly mainstream media was never on their side. Beyond that, people have known what's up since October, November at the latest.
