A peek inside Notch's housewarming party

Is he going to be one of these dudes that we see completely broke in a few years time because he spends it all on outrageous stuff?

I think it would be extremely difficult for him to go broke. It would be like a Brewster's Millions scenario.

He was already ridiculously rich from Minecraft sales alone, then Microsoft gave him 2.5 Billion more.

Hahaha...holy shit. Come the fuck on, just because the guy has a shit ton of money does not mean he is suffering from depression. Good lord.

I'm not saying he's depressed because he has a ton of money, more how he's using it. Overpaying for a massive house like that strikes me as the sort of thing you do to temporarily relieve depression. I mean, I could be totally wrong and he plans to keep having parties there and is totally fine.

Anyways, wow hm Minecraft being done in Java is kinda interesting to me.. do you happen to know how he did it originally? Physics/game engine?

I think he just wrote the whole thing from scratch and it grew and grew. The very early alpha builds were little more than just colored blocks you could place and destroy.

This is so ostentatious and gross. He's a true celebrity now. Ralph Baer didn't get to hang out with Selena Gomez, and he invented the damn medium.

Ralph Baer wasn't a rich fat guy with pretend friends. He probably had a good life regardless of whether or not he had a wall made of childrens candy.

If I had hella money I would buy a nice big house somewhere nice (doesn't have to be Notch Mansion nice), throw a big expensive party, live you the rest of my days doing whatever I want becuase I'm rich yo.

I will be smart with my money. Or hire someone to be smart with it.
Notch can buy at least 10 other mansions like that, so he's doing okay.

Happy people also throw parties and buy giant houses to celebrate how good things are going for them. I don't think your armchair psychology is really based on any facts.

that's the joke.jpg

The hell? Wait what was supposed to be a joke? The post you quoted or yours?

I saw your comment as acknowledging that there is a significant amount of bitter snark in the thread, and then sarcastically stating that Notch would care to be offended/bothered by the comments.

Also, I'd rather invite Arianna Grande than Selena.

If I won the lottery I'd probably buy 3-4 houses in different countries, guess I should visit a Doctor first to make sure I'm ok. :P

I see... that's pretty cool to know. I've never played Minecraft but I know Java. Extremely unusual that he didn't do it in C++.. and yet it makes me pleasantly surprised.

That house is nice but definitely doesn't seem $70 million nice. Guessing the living in Beverley Hills tax is $60 million of that $70 million.

He sold mojang for more than two billion dollars. It could be in the investment equivalent of a mattress and he's still probably making a hundred grand a day on interest.

Yeah it was. Does anyone have a link to an article on why Minecraft became so popular with kids (which is likely a large reason it was so valuable)? My nephews and niece (12,10,5 yr olds) are obsessed with it. Was it featured on a TV show or something?

"It’s not about the money. It’s about my sanity."

*Buys giant house in Beverly Hills and throws a celebrity-stuffed party.*

I used to really like him, but now I think he's lost it. Money certainly does that. Le sigh.

Ewww..

The guy made bank and people are bitter, that's when you know you made it.

YouTube. Minecraft blew up because of YouTube and streamers/ vloggers.

I thought Notch was a humble dude, not into living the rich mans life even though he is technically rich.

Maybe hes having a breakdown?

And if he decides to never have anyone over ever again? Does that mean we put him on suicide watch?

I just don't get your reasoning.

You must not have seen the offices of Mojang.

Haha

Why do so many people think that he's depressed or having a break down?

The guy is ridiculously rich, and he's living the life. Is that hard to understand?

That said, the house he bought is embarrassingly tacky, but hey, I guess he's into it.

wait, most expensive house in Beverly Hills?! So Notched is even above the Hollywood stars, lol.

Biggest Hollywood stars get like $5M-$20M per movie that happens once per 3-4 years. Then they blow it on coke and luxury fashion.

Notch got paid by Bill Gates $2.5B. He wipes the floor with the biggest Hollywood stars.

Most people would have like to see more from him. He pretty much left the industry with an unfinished (billion dollar strong) product, many unrealized promises and projects and a lot of meaningless twitter-posts. It is just a waste.
