APEX 2015 | Fighting Game Tournament | Jan 30-Feb 1

Oh wow so it's not happening till Saturday. Damn a day wasted. Smh what a setback. But Atleast it sounds as if things will go flawless 2marro.
 
Like I say man, events need to look into community centers more than hotel ballrooms, though I assume they always pick the cheapest option because running a grassroots tournament isn't economically feasible.

We'll be in the hotel ballroom ghetto for a long time, not even nintendo can get us out.
 
OK, so what kind of due diligence is usual when booking a hotel for a large event? Is this the same place they've always used?

It's a really unfortunate combination of events (pedo, storm, derelict hotel) but it seems as if they might be able to salvage the tourney. Fingers crossed for the sake of everyone there.

Hotel Ballrooms is pretty much the definition of grassroots really. Its the place of small communities and small anime/game conventions. Its actually comforting to know Smash has gotten big enough at one venue to need a full convention center finally. I know its also largely in part due to all the other stuff hosted at APEX, but still...for the con to grow this big feels good and for anyone playing ANY game at a tournament it feels amazing when its a big one.

I think I know what community I want to hang with more. So many feels from folks here.

Well, let's see... Brawl is easily on the cutting room floor first since it cuts into Smash 4 doubles and singles events (lots of people entered both). Then Smash 64 doubles (even though it's a small event, still cuts into Smash 64 singles time). Melee doubles would be next in line to get cut followed by Smash 4 doubles BUT the latter has that flight to Japan so it can't get canceled unless they switch the flight to Japan to Smash 4 singles top 4 winners.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what their plan is. They are going to stream some kind of announcement today, after all.

At the very least I hope they push the Salty Suite up to tonight so ALL of tomorrow can be used for the tourney.

It's a different location. Presumably somebody from Apex decided to switch over, probably because they were offered a better deal.
 
Apperently there's going to be a shuttle service for the people at Newark hotels to the new venue. This is sounding really good for everyone who is attending.

Yeah I figure at this point Brawl is gone.

They should think long and hard about cancelling Smash 4 doubles and working around that flight to Japan somehow. Smash 4 dubs take foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Melee dubs should go too, unfortunately. No one could have predicted this. All setups tomorrow should be for Melee singles and Smash 4 singles.

I'm hoping for that too. Salty Suite makes perfect sense to stream from a hotel room, and they'll need every second squeezed once the tournament begins.

Nintendo could never have moved as fast as Twitch given the fact of when this happened in the day (AM on the East Coast) and the fact that it's on the East Coast in an area their staff would be unfamilar with in terms of booking convention space. Reggie would have probably had to sign off as well (and if he's like most executives, he isn't until the office until 9 PST).

Nintendo World Store doesn't have the space.

Update 1 (Jan 30 @ 1:47PM)

-Venue will be moved to the Garden State Convention located at 50 Atrium Dr, Somerset New Jersey
- No tournament matches will be played on Friday
-Staff will be working overtime to get everything to new venue and set by Saturday morning
-Staff is reworking schedule to complete tournaments on a 2-day timeline
-Additional updates will be posted as they come in officially from Apex staff
-Twitch buses will be setup on a schedule between the Clarion Hotel and Garden State Convention
-Schedule will be released by midnight ET

I wonder how the Salty Suite stuff will play out. That seems like the kind of stuff that would have made nice filler in the evening while allowing setup to proceed for the pool play during the weekend.

Yeah, I've seriously considered getting on the ball and making an appearance at EVO or something for Smash. I want to be more than a net warrior in the scene.

this is very true.

first priority is getting everything moved to the new venue.

once that's all done and figured out, if they aren't going to start the tournament immediately, salty suite should definitely go down today. in an actual salty suite :P

They should definitely try to move Salty Suite up to today (or tonight rather) and just let today be one big Salty Suite day.

Possibly even Pokemon. It's played on 3DS after all.
