They clearly knew the hotel was collapsing due to the recent snowstorm, they definitely knew the fire marshals were gonna intervene and cancel the tournament and they certainly had a back up spot that was one hour away from the original venue by ride. Theses TOs did a really poor job making this tournament, that wasn't going to happen, a fucking reality. Class act job man.

Only one SF game in history has had a combination of multi-strength supers, access to multiple supers at once (instead of picking 1), custom combos, air blocking, guard meters, and guard cancels. In fact, none of those things have been system-wide mechanics in a mainline SF since SFA3. SF3 was stripped down in number of mechanics in comparison, but the parry system makes it completely unlike any other SF at a tactical or strategic level. And SF4 plays like neither of those games at all.

Saying that Melee players have no other Smash game to go to because of the vast differences between games is valid by itself, but also saying that the differences between SF games "aren't that big" and that "non-Smash players just don't understand that" shows a huge amount of ignorance on your part.

Oh, I can totally accept that I know little about SF. That's fine.

Your argument doesn't seem to suggest that fundamental movement is different, but rather more or less options between SFs. Smash 4 and Brawl options are gone because movement is fundamentally different.

A close friend of mine is usually in top 10 of AZ for a lot of fighting games and he says he wouldn't consider the jump between Melee and Brawl to anything he has seen in other fighting games, says the closest is SFA3 to future SF titles, but even that is more similar.

I'll talk to him more and see if I can get him to explain it in SF terms so I can be more knowledgable next time I try the example.
