Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

Bloodborne: The First 18 Minutes

Did you make it to the end for Cleric Beast fight? Not every game is for everyone though so play what you enjoy.

I did not, no. I just skipped around a bit to get an idea in case I ever want to play it.

I will watch the end a bit now.

Man, is the OT gonna be like this thread? I feel like it's gonna attract all sorts of concerned people.

"I don't get this game, guys. It's like a labyrinth, you never know where to go. Is that fun for you lol? Also, those jaggies. *barfs*"

May the Old One help us.

The intro cutscene is interesting.
The doctor saying that whatever happens next may be a bad dream, and the surreal nature of the Dream Refuge. Is there going to be some sort of plot twist? Is this why the Yharnam enemies refer to the player as a beast? Is the player a beast and doesn't realize it? Is it March 24th yet? I can't stop thinking about it.

The dialog of the wheelchair guy in the Refuge (who is distinct from the doctor, Iosefka, who does the first transfusion?) is pretty fishy too.

So a really pessimistic part of my brain won't stop yelling at me that IGN probably just edited the loading times to be faster. Anyone know for sure?

How is terribly ugly and distracting aliasing not relevant? Come on!
Because we have no idea if this is even representative of what we'll actually get? The gameplay is set in stone; the graphics are not. It's cool to be a bit concerned, but you've been harping on about it for pages. Chill out. If it's like this in the final game, say "I told you so" and voice complaints then. You've gone beyond the realm of healthy concern at this point.

And sorry everyone, but the real OT is
Bloodborne |OT| Are We Sure This is PS4 Exclusive?

Bloodborne |OT| You Died 4 ?
Bloodborne |OT| Demon's Souls 2 ?

Bloodborne |OT| And so the Nightly Hunt Begins....

The most interesting thing about reading this thread has been seeing what different peopkle value most about games and gaming. Some people really value the technical/graphical values of a game. Any distraction in that arena is extremely off-putting to them. I don't understand this mindset, maybe because I have never gamed on a top-tier PC. My baseline experience with games either console or lower-settings janky pc play.

For me, the things that matter most are art direction, gameplay and story. So I thought the footage looked amazing. I noticed a few "jaggies" but, that just doesn't ever cut into my experience enjoying a game. BB seems to have atmosphere in spades, and I thought the art was extremely impressive looking.

I played the alpha, thought it looked pretty sharp, all things considered, and found the gameplay promising. I like nice graphics, but I like From Software games more. Even though DS2 is (greatly? in some minds at least) inferior to its predecessors it was still a tip-top tier game. I expect BB to be a top tier game, given my experience, and I have hope for DeS and DarkS levell quality.

They edited out loading

Every game eventually looks out of date. If you leverage your taste only on technology, then it's harder to appreciate things as they age out and become obsolete. I'll never ever remember the aliasing, only how good the story/art/music/gameplay is

They acknowledged editing out loading times in the text beneath the video. one lowpoint of the alpha was LONG loading times. I think they will hone it in some, but I am expecting ps3 majula-esque loading.

It makes me wonder about
the nature of hunters. What is a hunter? The female voice says the player becomes a hunter after the transfusion, and the wheelchair guy makes it sound like the Refuge is for hunters exclusively. Is it something with blood? Did the player willingly take the transfusion for the purpose of becoming a hunter? Why can hunters access the Dream, and what purpose does it serve?

UGH

Ah. I downloaded the video and that disclaimer isn't present. Damn. Yoshi-chan missed it too. He was really excited about 1.5 second load times.

It's crazy how low the gameplay:graphics comment ratio is for unreleased games these days. Imagine if we could replace the effort spent on criticizing and analyzing every single graphical detail (Watch Dogs, The Witcher, etc) with loud comments about questionable/not fun gameplay decisions (or for a lot of these AAA games, the lackluster combat). Hell, I remember someone had to make a thread just to talk about gameplay in the 15 minute Uncharted 4 gameplay demo lol.

This is a very good point, it's gotten really disproportionate how much graphical minutia dominates discussion over gameplay these days.

I caved and skimmed a little bit of the first look. Looks very good so far! I thought the initial reveal had this area taking place at night. I guess they changed it, or time does move in the game, which would be pretty cool to see in a Souls game.

What baffles me the most, is to see some people ignoring completely the art direction, that is outstanding, and the gameplay changes that is also looking damn good, just because of "jaggies" and critizing it like it was a game breaker.

That kind of justifies the modern gaming industry of shallow gameplays and heavy IQ focused games.

The concern is quite nice but unnecessary, wouldn't you agree?

I've got this on pre-order but that looked pretty bad to me.
I've watched the alpha being played and it looked amazing, this looked awful though.
they changed the moody night setting to a sunset and to add even more insult it's got more jaggies than before.
what's going on? why so many changes for the worse, I've never played a souls game but do they really do this every time before release?
gameplay over graphics and all that but why lie about what the final release will look like so much.
fingers crossed it get's fixed for the release, I'd much prefer a night setting to the sunset as well, maybe the night time hides all the jaggies somehow?

I just don't like being shown one thing for such a long time and then just before release or in some cases after release we find out that the actual game is worse.
I'd much prefer open honesty regarding previews, screenshots and videos

As someone that loves Dark Souls 1&2, this video didn't do much for me. Might be that I'm not a fan of the setting and prefer the fantasy settings in previous games, I'm also getting the feeling that character build options won't be as complex or fleshed out as the other Souls games. Then again Souls styled demos and videos never really got me hyped, except the trailers for Dark Souls 1.

Also don't like how tiny the health and stamina bars are, can you change the size of HUD elements via options?

One thing I'm sure of is that
the hollows are onto something when they call you a beast. My guess is that the player character has had his senses manipulated such that he can't perceive how bestial he's become, and that this is the reason wheelchair guy in the refuge tells him to not think too hard about it. It's been made clear by previous footage of Priest Gascoigne that those infected are generally unable to recognize that they are turning into monsters.

I'm interested in what exactly separates the hunters from the "regular infected." It seems like both groups are turning into monsters without realizing it and that both groups think that other members of their group are still human while attacking members of the other group on sight.

I'm guessing people complaining about visuals have never played a Souls game (on console) before. Who cares. Demons Souls was arguably the worst graphically but the best in terms of theme and atmosphere. Bloodborne looks similar to that.

This build could be older than the alpha for all we know.

The interviews seem to indicate that some areas will be showcased both in day and night settings, including different enemy behavior based on the the scripted time of day.

Personally, I like the mix of dark and light.

Lol at all the haters and clowns coming in here to whine about nonsense. It is the equivalent of me going to a Madden thread and whining about how that game doesn't look like fun, how it is just a shallow experience with a bunch of dudes throwing a ball around on fields that all look the same, smh.

Anyone who has played a Souls game KNOWS what this game is. If you have never bothered to play a Souls game in the past, it is idiotic for you to come in to this thread and say that the game looks shallow or not fun. You don't even know what you are looking at. You didn't like the others Souls games, why would you like this one? Why come in to a thread about a game that stems from a series you never cared about just to shit on the latest entry?

This is a very good point, it's gotten really disproportionate how much graphical minutia dominates discussion over gameplay these days.

Because solid gameplay will always be guaranteed in a Souls game. I think a lot of people thought that a lot of graphical/technical issues in demons/dark/DS2 was because of the older console's hardware and they hoped with the game being a PS4 exclusive it would look and run as nice as it plays.

Was there many complaints during the alpha test? I didn't follow the thread much.

Nope. Only the framerate was a concern from the alpha.

Shows how insane and detached the 60 fps threads are when it comes to downplaying how much stock people put into visuals.

People need to check themselves yo. That shit was hot!

But really this is it you guys, this is the souls game that sweeps the awards. Exciting VISCERAL gameplay with AAAAA budget set and creature designs its all here folks its a gonna be the bessstttttttttt

Man this is a sad thread ro read.I am a new member but I certainly did not expect a thread about bloodborne game play to be this way.

Anyway I saw the last half and I really like it and yes even the graphics

I think some are just thread shitting/trolling on purpose right now.

There are reasonable complains and concerns and then there is just straight up whining/shitting/trolling.

It's only effective if people start quoting them left and right. That's the purpose after all, to get a reaction and derail the talk.

Guys, grow some thicker skin. Why the fuck should you care if someone thinks it looks like a PS3 game? You aren't going to change their mind by piling on.

Oh man I hope this game don't get Destiny'd by the very vocal hyperbole crowd on GAF

When the game comes out, let the people who enjoy it, enjoy it please

Exclusive games bring out the most concern for some reason :p

If the player
is bestial without realizing it, it begs the question of why characters such as the civilian behind the window and the other hunter are friendly to them. Either way, I'm expecting a mindfuck with the true effects of the transfusion.

Regarding the transfusion, I think it's important to note that the doctor's first words are "all signed and sealed", implying that the process is voluntary by player. What throws me off is that all signs point to the player taking the transfusion to become a hunter, while I recall earlier media stating that the player comes to Yharnam to cure a bloodborne disease. Maybe becoming a hunter and curing the disease are one in the same? Regardless, the nature of what a hunter actually is is very intriguing to me. They clearly aren't regular people, as evidenced by the (apparent) mandatory transfusion and access to the Dream Refuge.

Dammit, it's like Bioshock Infinite all over again. I've never put this much thought into any of the other Souls games, let alone from the opening cutscene.
