How bad is your memory?
What area was he lacking in last year?
I don't believe his defensive contribution is especially brilliant, I don't believe he can control the tempo of a match and run a game, I don't think he's physically superior to many of his contemporaries and I think he needs a sustained run of form based over a few seasons before anyone can call him the complete anything.

Has Ramsey been playing deeper this season?
Not espeically. Prior to Coquelin coming into the team he was defending a lot more because our other mids were worthless.

Another problem for City is their onfield 'general' being all over the shop right now. I've never thought that Kompany was on the same level as the all time great Premier League defenders. But he was still a good player overall. Right now though he's pretty inept. Like, what's happened to him?

He has that FM-esque, "Considering his options." look about him.
I think he was always a bit erratic but under Mancini there was much more focus on being defensively solid. Pellegrini has opened the team up and over time Kompany has started to become more exposed and take more rash decisions.
He's a defender who is too eager to win the ball, that's his biggest problem.
