For some reason I can't even begin to explain, this game just brings out extreme emotions in folks. lol

It's an exclusive, the first one of the year. It's also a cinematic single player game. Some people think they're a blight that will destroy gaming, the other side is terrified (I sometimes am) that the linear and clean single player experience will disappear. It's also trying to do some interesting things graphically on a forum with a lot of PC gamers.

The only thing it's missing is if it had dogs/cats, so we could disagree about that.

It's because of the whole cinematic experience/plot before gameplay stuff.

It creates a hard divide between people wanting a great presentation, an immersive plot and an interesting setting, not caring about gameplay innovation or QTEs, versus people thinking gameplay should be a priority over everything, who see the game as everything wrong in the modern western AAA game design philosophy.

This liquor talk reminds me of the good shit that I had the good luck of drinking last night with my bosses.

Thats true but people just need to calm the hell down. Every impression we have in this thread from gaffers playing it is the gunplay is fantastic and that the game isn't a cinematics first gameplay second abomination like Ryse.

You're probably right, but after the massive success of another very cinematic game called, "The Last of Us', one would think cinematic games would be better received? Oh well, I'm excited for The Order. I love immersive cinematic games.

TLoU was also met with harsh criticism before launch on this forum - It wasn't until people tried it and was pleasantly surprised that the mood changed.

Pre-launch people weren't too jazzed about TLoU. And have you been into a thread about TLoU post-launch? There are some people who absolutely hate the game to this day. I would suspect those same people hate the idea of The Order.

Yep, you can almost bank on one of the first posts in a "what game did you not like"-type of thread to be about TLOU.

That was a different, much more proven studio though, and they didn't do interviews saying compromising things; also they didn't keep showing the same trailer lacking gameplay over and over again for months with few changes. So, people had less reasons to jump at their throats.

So now that quite a few people have the game...have we gotten any info about the voice actors for the main crew that RaD said we'd be "surprised" about?

I don't think the cases are all that similar. TLOU came from a proven developer, whereas RAD has yet to make a full console game yet.

In almost every interview for this game there has been very little said about the gameplay direction and mechanics. When info for TLOU started emerging you started hearing about the No Country for Old Men influence in the shootouts and how they wanted to capture a certain type of tension in the combat. You got a very good sense of what the game would play like and what direction they were going for. They also had a great demo at E3 that perfectly showed off what the combat would feel like.

With The Order we haven't really had that moment. We didn't get that extended E3 demo that really gave you a good sense of what the game would play like. Instead we got little slivers of cinematics and very very short segments of third person shooting. In between that there's been so many interviews, most of which focus on the technical achievements and cinematic vision.

It also sounds polished. Not hearing anything about glitches or frame drops.

Nah, I missed out on all the pre launch TLOU threads, because I went the extra mile to remain spoiler free. It worked. :)

With DRIVECLUB and now The Order I am now two for two. /brag

No spoilers, only impressions now... :)

You lucky son of a biscuit eater! Congrats!

Why are they so much more in the UK? Does it have something to do with VAT or whatever? That's like a 25% increase over our prices. Wtf.

Game prices are usually £30-40 but we have a trend called next gen tax where they try to push the price up early on with new systems but you can find many deals. Most of the PS3/360 gen was £30-40. Should be clear that next gen tax is a joke for the price hike we see when new systems launch. VAT is real.

Also games drop hugely in price very quickly here where as historically in the US they hold onto $50-60 longer. This may be shortening in the last year or two though.

A reason to move us off expecting to pay no more than £30-40 a game is the VAT. Here you can find a new game for £35-40 which is $52-60. With our VAT included in the price, a £35 game actually works out at £28, £7 is tax. £28 works out to $43. In the US you pay no tax for online orders and a small percentage on top of the $60 in shops state dependant. Either way a full $60 divided between the parties, here in the UK they only get the equivalent of $43-50 on a new game to divide between the parties. UK is a tough market, US is a boon. The issue gets worse when games are a third off a few weeks later then half price then two thirds off in no time at all.

If they can get us to pay £50 then they get £40 to divide after VAT is paid so they will get the equivalent of the US system of $60.

For whatever reason we find anything above £40 very expensive. EU is worse as they round up the price across many euro currency countries so they end up ordering from the UK. Games are cheap here next gen price hike aside, especially after a few weeks.

We expect new PS4/XBO titles to fall back to £30-40 at launch across many outlets like last gen but it might stick one day. We can't keep at £40 max for a game forever. I can't see myself paying £50 for typical game anytime soon though.

Is there gonna be a thread for spoiler-free impressions or are they just gonna go here? I don't wanna risk going into the spoiler thread for gameplay / technical performance impressions

Most people have just been posting spoiler-free impressions in here. If you're worried about being spoiled I'd stay out of the other thread

Holy shit that's so different than the 8.5% tax rate in my city. I can understand why gamers in the UK might be a little more discerning in their game shopping than some from the US.

Thanks for the explanation.

I can agree with some of that, because for the longest, they did keep this game close to the vest. However, I was under the impression San Monica Studios also worked with this game (with Ready At Dawn). San Monica is definitely a proven studio with it's God of War series of games.

I remember reading that they are only publishing/providing technical support, not co-developing as with Bloodborne and FromSoft/Japan Studio

Of all places I'd expect Gamestop to be the last place to sell a game early, they've got strict policies for street dates. You've got better luck getting it early at a mom & pop store or at Target/Walmart/etc.

I maybe in luck, there is an incredibly run down Walmart near where I live.

I hope you do. No one has asked about new impressions as consistently as you in this thread, it'll be up to you to give impressions just as frequently! Haha

A run down Walmart sounds like a good bet, get in there and work done magic.
