New Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae screenshots

Looks nice for a console game.

Still hate that they haven't gotten rid of the ugly looking hair dithering. Cidney's hair, in particular, looks especially horrible and it bothers me every time I see a screenshot of her. The LOD and the AA in the pan-out shot are also poor looking too.

I haven't seen a game with this scale that doesn't have comprimises with LoD. It is more obvious on games with open plains etc, while it would be easier to mask with tons of trees, other features obscuring the players sight. They have improved it from previously I think.

that Behemoth is blind on the right side.. I hope that fact is added to the strategy to take down the beast. I'll attack him from the right.

Too bad the car is not there, I was really looking forward to the only new element in an open world rpg added with this game lol

Cars have been an open-world mainstay from GTA3 on. That SE is putting one in their game really isn't remarkable in the slightest.

Good question. Not only do I not see a single chest anywhere, the map does not contain any watch towers or sync points. This worries me. I'm starting to wonder if this game even has enough collectibles to keep its players satisfied.

If you ask me, this game could learn a thing or two about open world development from Assassin's Creed.

It's just right in front of you :)

And it doesn't matter. The car is going to control like a car. The same way they did in GTA V last year. They same way they did in GTA3 a decade ago. No new ground has been broken on this front.

It looks like a new element to me compared to to horses and the likes we re used too. Nothing ground breaking as you say, but definitely fresh for the sole genre as the setting itself actually. Car is definitely the element that I find most intriguing along the features announced till now.

I guess you missed the female Cid then. She was carrying the "chest". ;)

Man, it's weird how many people don't get Dawg's sarcasm with that Assassin's Creed post.

Personally, I'm just happy to finally play something XV/Versus related. If it has the combat system and some mechanics to play around with, then I'll be fine. I just want to fiddle around with everything, seeing how the engine behaves and all that.

Can't wait for the youtube walkthroughs, not going to be able to play the demo because i have 0 interest in the type-0 or whatever game it comes with :D

Scans are out. There's new stuff to talk about, like Noctis's eyes changing color *.*

They kept that from Versus? Interesting. I thought that was one thing that was scrapped a long time ago.
Unless they've been scraping stuff at the last minute, it has been mentioned before how Noctis's eyes change to red when he uses magic (either Nomura or Tabata mentioned this, I think).

It's hard to confirm if it's still in, since we haven't really seen a closeup of his eyes while using magic lately. They did show Noctis with red eyes in 2013, it wasn't in gameplay though.

Actually Nomura said his eye turning red was related to his teleportation power.

Ff8 was an open world rpg? I must play it again because I forgot all about it then.

Interesting you say that because I always found FF8 to be the most open and non-linear of the FFs (until 12 that is), in the sense you had a lot of freedom to explore during certain points in the game.

Heh i always thought the Lucis invasion is the start of the game

In the TGS trailer, Noctis is going to meet Luna, who apparently has something important to tell him, so I imagine she's going to warn him of the invasion and by the time he returns, the Crystal has already been stolen.

Then only Offline FF games that ever fit the "open world" billing are (least linear and completely open)Lightning Returns ,FFX-2 and (to a lesser extent)FFXII and XIII-2.

Every other FF has largely linear progression, regardless of the world map that seems to suggest otherwise.

I haven't played XII, but everything we've seen so far of XV seems to suggest it will be the first truly open world single player mainline game?

I don't have an idea how Episode Duscae fits in either. I don't think they're on the run during the demo. Why would they chill out casually and hunt monsters when their home city just got attacked^^ I think the scene where they see Niflheim airships flying above and Noctis screams is the end of the demo where they realize what happened while they were away. Wonder why they're out of town (maybe for meeting Luna?). Also don't know when the treaty-signing party scene with Noctis and Stella would be then if it is still in the game at all.

Anyway, there's a nice thread on Mognet about the eventual chronology of events:

I don't know what open world means any more. Some people think that open world means completely seamless areas (i.e not loading) which is just a technical aspect in my view.

When I say open world,I mean a game where the player mostly steers the game's progression as they desire, regardless of whether there's loading or not.

Lightning returns, for example, is pretty much the only FF game where you can progress to the end game in almost any order or fashion you like.

I don't think FFXV will have non linear progression like that because of the story ,but I think it will end up being the single largest FF world and probably towards the end you'll get to do whatever you want or travel any where in the world.

I think FFXV will probably have the best world in the series and the most exploration ,but the story will surely be linear(which is important to have a good story)

EDIT :For all intents and purposes,it will be a big, large world with tons of exploration."Open world" labels be damned.

It think there are two camps to interpretation. Some people see "open world" as a world where you are free from ultra linear restraints and you have the ability to deviate from the main story in instances. Others see it as a sandbox game with little to no story, where the players have control over the outcome. Some see linear as a game that progresses through a linear story(event to event), while others see it as "hallway simulator".

I think Noctis crew is just lazy and not give a fuck about royal etiquette. Thus they go around having fun and all while important politics affair happen in Lucis. Only lather the lazy prince will find out what happened and what his absence meant for the kingdom. I think we ll see a develop to his character similar to this stuff...

Oh, like FF VI
during the 2nd half?

Im more inclined to believe that progresion could be like "There is this objective but you are free to tackle it at any time" and the explorable areas would be controlled by the vehicles or how far one is on the story.

I was thinking about this. We know Noctis and co. return to Lucis at some point, so maybe the party and the royal welcome are a part of a later Niflheim ploy to assassinate an inexperienced and flippant prince and Noctis knowingly takes the bait to gain entrance to his country.

Wait, they did say at one point this one will have set pieces , correct?
Or am I making that up?

Yup, it'll have some. Nothing new for a FF, though, if you think about FFVII/VIII/IX's Uncharted-like playable FMV scenes where stuff was exploding left and right while the characters jumped and climbed around^^
