Halo: The Master Chief Collection is STILL broken after 100 days

I've been getting into matches just fine recently. No lag or drops in-match. I've actually started using Game DVR before I choose matchmaking just out of curiosity. The longest wait I've run into recently was about three minutes, including the load time to get into the match itself. These should be in my XBL feed.

Wait, is this really true? You have a source for that, please?

I tried getting one during the weekend. Spoke to Customer Service and that's what I was told. Then I spoke to the Supervisor and they said the same thing. No refunds because 343 said they pretty much made good on all early adopters by giving out a free month of Live.

The worst might be that so many of us who bought it for full price alpha tested this for them for 100 days and now those who waited are rewarded with being able to get it for $24.

There's a harsh lesson to be learned here. Not saying you deserve it, just saying people should avoid 343 games in future.

Right its obvious the reaction I'm getting in here so this is likely to be my final post on the matter. I do not have an agenda in any of this, I purchased a game that I got my money's worth out of even through its faults, granted my online experience was the same as every one elses at launch and in the weeks and even months since. However for me personally, the game is working albeit still with problems that need addressing. I know that this isn't the case with most people and I reiterate again that I'm sympathetic, but that I simply feel differently about the game.

I started what I said by saying I was going to be called a shill for it and I see now that I was correct. I find it absolutely insane that someone who defends a game that most people find to not meet their satisfaction automatically makes them a shill or a troll. Is it impossible for me to simply have liked the game? Or that maybe I'm just a bit more patient? I never once said that the MCC is fixed or that 343 should stop trying to fix it and I do realize that in particular my comment about trading in the game as a solution was ill thought and wasn't the real point I was trying to make, but thats ok. If you've made your mind up about me it doesn't matter.

At the end of the day, I'm still going to enjoy the game I bought, and thats all that matters to me, so call me what you like.

I'm out

Congratulations on feeling like you got your money's worth out of MCC. That doesn't mean the complaints of everyone else who bought MCC aren't valid. That doesn't mean 343 is exempt from criticism.

Microsoft's #DriveClub

And there it is like clockwork...

Yeah, gotta agree.

"not fully functioning" is more appropriate.

Semantics?

Not even close, considering Driveclub's SP has always worked, and the online is now pretty damn reliable. I play an hour or two of DC a night online. I STILL can't play matchmaking with my friends on MCC. The last couple bulletins just keep saying the same thing- a big, massive fix is supposedly coming "soon".

You're right but even if Driveclub was broken. That doesn't excuse MCC.

Does the single player still work well?

I ask this every time. I don't really care for multiplayer but I loved the campaigns on Halo 1 and 2. I never get a straight answer.

As long as you play each level to completion and don't shut down at checkpoints.

And avoid playing legendary due to crash-prone levels.

And don't much care about audio mixing since the channels are totally screwed up in Halo 2 and 3.

Etc. etc. etc.

If this is true. Wow. The game is broken. Single player should be rock solid.

I played all 4 campaigns on legendary without a single bug, hiccup, or crash. General consensus is that the campaigns are fine, minus checkpoints. Crashes, bugs, etc rarely happen in campaigns.

Wait you can't use checkpoints correctly but it's fine?

I managed to get a refund. I did have a case number from a previous request to return it , and they said to wait for the December patch, so maybe thats why I got a refund in January.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they'd fix things, so I waited and asked 3 months later. So it's like...I'm frustrated, but I feel bad that Customer Service probably has to deal with a lot of these requests. So basically out $60 for a game I'm never going to touch again because it's not worth the hassle of it "probably" working.

What else is there to say at this point? Hopefully this clusterfuck serves as a lesson to Microsoft so that they will think twice before they rush a project out on the market.
Come on. You know this isn't going to happen. MCC was still a 1M+ domestic seller in 2014 and extending that attach rate brings it to ~2M total. While it was busted. Dedicated players are rightfully mad as hell but Microsoft can still laugh on their way to the bank with this, especially after the few hundred thousand consoles it surely helped sell on top. Ongoing labor costs might catch up eventually I suppose.

2014 showed that some AAAs are just too big to fail.
Hope it's fine at the end of the year.
Huh?

Not long had the game myself and apart from waiting about 5 min to get into a multiplayer game I have really not had the issues that are detailed here. I feel bad for the guys having issues but is any of the moaning and console shitting doing anyone any good? Seems a day doesn't go by without another one of these threads being created.

I hope it's 100% at the end of the year when I'll get an Xbone?

People need to give up on the delusional dream that "the next patch" will fix it. Unless the next patch is a completely new game, it won't be fixed. It will never be fixed. Microsoft sold a brick. People aren't even talking about the horrible mess that is the UI and the long load times because there are obviously bigger fish to fry. Every component of this game is a complete mess.

At this point, holding out for patches is just one step removed from the delusional folks who are apologists for this game/343/Microsoft.

Give up on the hope that patches will fix this product. Microsoft/343 deserves to be publicly shamed and probably sued (although the success of any class action suit seems unlikely) for completely misleading consumers about this "game."

Furthermore, consumer protection laws for digital software need to improve, and we need to do everything in our power to prevent this trend from continuing.

I did the same thing you did. I asked for a refund at the end of November, they said they were working on a patch so I waited and waited, at the end of January it was the last straw and I decided to ask for a refund with my case number from November. Now if only I could get refund for the XBONE. :( What a waste of money.

The insulting thing honestly is that 343 thinks 1 month of Live makes up for a $60 refund. I'd be happy to give back that 1 month of Live in return for a full refund, as would many others.

If you purchased a book and then halfway through find out that you don't like it would you then suggest that the Author should quit and do something else?
If there's a Worst Analogy of the Year contest happening sometime, I'd like to submit this one.

Edit:
You see, this book analogy would work if the book randomly lost pages, even passages of texts as you're reading them, sends you back a chapter, randomly skips the next 3 chapters, 4 random people suddenly appear next to you when you close the book, has parts of the rough draft in there for some reason, or just simply wouldn't even appear to function as a book.

Honestly I feel the same way (regarding the XboxOne). Halo MCC was the primary reason that I bought the XboxOne (an admittedly stupid decision on my part).

The party chat feature still doesn't seem to work with any sort of consistency, additionally the amount of times that I've had to resort to the "hard reset" (unplugging power cord from back of console) is far too numerous across multiple titles. Hell, the other day I even had to hard reset at the main menu page, because no matter of clicking on my game tile would open up the application. <<< All of this is indicative of bad software and not hardware problems with my specific unit.

Microsoft Germany won't give me a refund.

And like I said in the other thread yesterday, my fiancée bought the Xbox one for my birthday last year. She knew I love halo, that I was until the MCC a big halo fan and that I could not stop talking about halo and the MCC and how awesome it would be.

Awesome my ass. Can't tell you how often I lost progress in the halo 2 campaign and I still have not played one MP game. So a few weeks ago I stopped trying. Xbox one collects dust.

I hope MS eventually takes the Halo IP out of 343s hands. Even when the games work, it's way too complacent and safe.

halo was supposed to be my one reason to own an xbone, but MSs blunder ended up convincing me not to get an xbone. It's unacceptable to have your flagship title broken.

The OS in the XBOX ONE is terrible, I could put up with it if I could play some Halo with my buddies but that is never going to happen. Tempted to trade it in for whatever little money I will get just so I can forget this horrible experience. Halo to me was the go to game, the reason to own an XBOX, without Halo I rather play on my PC and recently purchased WiiU.

I know you have good intentions with your comment, but this misinformation (regarding 343i and the studios MCC was outsourced to) that I continue to see posted in Halo related threads needs to end.

343i was created and is owned by Microsoft. Any (essentially semantic argument) about "who is to blame" for this debacle is tremendous waste of time. Microsoft is to blame. 343i is to blame. They're synonymous.

No one but Microsoft is going to be creating Halo games, unless they continue to run the franchise into the ground and sell the rights to another studio or publisher and I don't see that happening.

Even if 343 manages to fix the matchmaking, the versions of the games they are running are not the original Xbox versions, they are the PC counterparts. You can wait for patches and patches all you want but there is no way they will do something like make it run on Xbox versions of Halo 1 and 2. Halo 2 has terrible hit detection, audio mixing is messed up, Halo CE has a reticle bug that pushed your reticle away from players.

I can actually confirm this is still active from my session tonight. You can adjust for it, but it's a heck of a quirk when you're getting into the swing of things.

The fact that the Master Chief Collection sold 2 million copies doesn't mean that it hasn't hurt the Halo brand. For the most part, a new entry in an established IP sells based on the quality of the previous entry in the franchise. To draw a comparison, Mega Man Battle Network 4 was a terrible game, easily the worst in its series. However, it was also the best selling game in the series, based on the strength of the much better 2 and 3. Of course, the other reason that it is the best selling in the series is that 4 managed to do irreparable harm to the franchise, leading to sales of Mega Man Battle Network and its successor to solely drop away into eventually cancellation.

The effects of a bad game wont't be seen in sales in full until the sequel. The initial sales of Halo 5 are what we should really watch to make any claims about the effects of the MCC issues.

343 have absolutely done more damage to the Halo franchise than raising it. Literally.

I have a similar thread and it is absolutely ridiculous they do not even have dedicated servers established yet as promised from day one.

Exactly. Lets continue. The UI/menus are an aesthetic mess. Menus and submenus of submenus. Want to change your armor color? Not even reflected in the graphic representation of your armor in the menu system. The game continues to alert me that I've "unlocked" additional items that are buried in the submenus and the alert system doesn't work at all. Even when it does, there is no useful sorting mechanism, so you basically resort to scrolling endlessly through a list of locked/unlocked items.

2. Congratulations, the game somehow miraculously found a matchmaking game for you. Just to punish the user even more, we'll force you to sit through a static image of a map and a loading bar that looks like it belongs in a Playstation 1 game. *disconnect* *pound head against the wall*

No? I got the full refund after all the corporate bs talk on the phone, telling me that was me, trying to reset my modem or open some ports of it. I just laugh at her and I just said that I wouldn't do this and the problem is with the game and not with me. go to the xbox forum and take a look at it and see that it's your game that is kaputt. After this she let me waiting for about 10 mins and said that she would give me a refund. Lol

Lets continue. Even the art/modeling in this game looks like shit.

Case in point, the water in the tropical forge map. Light blue "tropical water" that looks completely out of place, not dynamic, and looks horrible when you're not in the disembodied forge mode.

Speaking of awful "graphical upgrades." Halo 2 Anniversary. Good luck playing the single player all the way through without switching to classic mode in certain sequences. I have a professionally calibrated TV and some of the environments are so dark that it's nearly impossible to navigate without switching to classic graphics.

Hope Rock Paper Shotgun will try to dig up some dirt regarding this whole story, what the hell happened. I think the millions of people who forked up 60$ for this... thing... at launch are at least owed this.

I've let my Xbox live account lapse until they fix matchmaking and bring us the dedicated servers they promised.

If that never happens I'll look into getting a PS4 this year and enjoy the (superior) third party games on that.

Yeah, the white balance is off in each game of the collection. Another UI mishaps that could have been avoided if they'd include a brightness option for each game. Halo 3 is such a washed out experience.

Wait you can't use checkpoints correctly but it's fine?

Checkpoints work fine. For me and my Friends at least. Not arguing that there are some isolated cases of a checkpoint not saving once or twice for some people. otherwise, voing by my anecdotal evidence (alsp by my own legendary playthrough evidence) they work fine.

And you want a straight answer: single player works well enough. I even played through halo 2 in coop without any problems and even here the checkpoints did work (audiomixing was kinda borked though). if you want it for just sp its totally worth it

At this point, I'm wondering whether or not it's broken, or simply nobody is playing it. It's rarely in the Top 10 games played on Xbox One, no wonder match times are long. Functionally everything seems fine to me, I just have no desire to play it as it seems that nobody else is.

To put some numbers on it, Battlefield 4 is currently the 9th most played game with 22k players on right now. (thanks to BF4stats.com) MCC is not even on the Top 10 list, just to put things into perspective.

Well we all knew this was going to happen.

Also, Halo 3 has hardcore thumbstick acceleration, anyone notice that? Can't aim for shit, in fact all 5 games aiming is different even on the same sensitivity, Halo 3 being the worst.

Maybe I should just keep bombing customer service on this refund issue, at least annoyed workers there might give feedback which might get into ears of 343.

Yup. Coming off any of the other Halo games and trying to play Halo 3 you can tell right away something is off with the sensitivity/thumb stick dead zone.
