LOL.
I feel sad for the kid though. Never played Destiny and didn't realise Share Play was an actual thing but lol.

Don't we all want the world to be a better place?

Why do we put up with this shit? I just don't understand how anyone could laugh and just say, "That's the way the world is. Should have known better". It's not the way the world should be. Some asshole gets his rocks off on making kids cry and a bunch of you just sit there and laugh?

I seriously thought this forum was better than this.

Sure, I don't disagree with that.

But I don't go around judging people and telling them to seek professional help based on their reaction to a kid having its character deleted.

But you go around judging those who go around judging?

I don't think they need professional help particularly.
I just find it disheartening that the gaming 'community' seems to be stuffed with selfish beacons of immaturity who feel that being heartless and trying to appear 'edgy' are things they should wear like a badge of honour.

Why would you even do that to someone though, like how do you even think "I'm going to take control of this kid's game and delete his characters and ruin his fun for laughs"

I do think the kid should have been paying attention though

Feel bad for the kid, I'm kinda shocked at how many intolerant people on GAF gaming.

It's pretty ridiculous and horrifying that some people are saying he deserves to be punished for just using a glitch in a freaking game. Ffs, should all speedrunners be publicly flayed?

This exactly. I'm all for good life lessons. But not at the expense of others. People who rationalize this kind of behaviour are part of the problem.

Is it so wrong to lay a little blame on both?

Obviously the deleter is a POS and there is no validation for it. You can start right there. I think most 11 year olds are gullible enough to go along with anything like this... glitch to level up? Sure thing! This person took advantage of that. I wouldn't go tossing out words like the kid "deserved" it, but he didn't do himself any favors letting a stranger take over to glitch him. No the kid didn't deserve it, yes the deleter is a piece of scum, but as much as some people may not want to hear it, the kid did get a tough lesson. Doesn't make it right, but it is what it is.

He did it for the lulz. It's something he thought would be funny, and that he knew there would be no repercussions over.

This is a commen trend today. I've seen/heard this sort of thing done many times. Sometimes it gets even worse, namely with account thieft.

There's also a strong hate against children in gaming.

Accidentally left my copy of Pokemon Red at my friends house across the street one day by accident. Go to get it either the next day or in the same day a few hours later and she already overwrote my save.

And then a kid stole a copy of Pokemon Gold of mine.

It's always goddamn Pokemon.
Fucking Pokemon has only one save file, but it looks like two.

Just like when that frail pensioner lets the man in who says he's there to read the gas meter. Once he's in that man terrorises he frail old lady and steals her savings.
But, hey, at least she's learned a valuable lesson, eh?

Victim blaming is wrong. Even if you are trying to sound like you are being reasonable when you are doing it.

Really feel bad for the 11 year old. He is a kid and of course he is going to be upset. Essentially a grown "adult" acted more immature than the 11 year old kid. Such an asshole.

I saw some people mentioning this, but didnt actually knew what it was, after seeing the video, this is wrecking, specially the kid crying in the end. Its a lesson learned, but in a very very bad way, couldnt Bungie retrieve his stuff ?! Im pretty sure they have a record or something, also the other guy who did it should be banned from gaming in general ! Video game world is a crazy world, and we dont need assholes destroying peoples gaming joys.

Only person getting banned is that player who deleted the kid's content. And by ban I mean by Bungie on its servers. Dont think Sony would do jack.

I am very saddened by the immaturity being displayed in this thread toward the boy. It's one of the few times I've been genuinely disappointed in this community.

After reading some comments, cmon folks hes a little boy...I know when I grew up playing PS1 games, when a friend told me "Hey, wanna see a trick I can do that can give u unlimited something" I would go crazy to know what it was, so I totally understand the kid, its not his fault, as I said earlier, the guy should get banned, idk if he actually has destiny, but if he does, he should get banned from it.

If that frail pensioner invited in the gas man specifically so he could help her screw over the gas company and cheat on her bill then yes, good lesson learned.

OR you could learn this lesson as a child in a totally safe environment and not make mistakes in the future allowing strangers into your life so they can help you break rules.

The guy who deleted his characters should be punished for that. There's no way that sort of thing isn't against the TOS of PSN. But life is a dangerous place with no filters. Count yourself very lucky if you're able to learn a lesson as important as this one safely with no actual loss or injury. If not you'll grow up to be a frail old lady inviting people in to screw over the utilities company and lose your life savings instead.

Well its not really the responsibility of either Sony or Bungie to help this kid as there's a lot of steps that could have avoided this.

However it would be nice of either of them to help the kid as a show of goodwill.

Either way it seems the community, including Gaffers, are willing to help him out.

As a father, going through this thread has been weird. Those posts where someone says 'dude he's 11...' but places no sort of accountability on him because the person who deleted his characters is 38, dont make total sense. The same goes for posts that start with "when i was 11"...if you were 11 before Xbox Live then your entire gaming experience was different. Your friends were literally next to you. You had trust. you werent playing games alone with people your parents age. Thats far from the case now, so how is it comparable?

When did it become OK for 11 year olds to be totally unsupervised online? Where is the accountability of his parents? They allow him to stream, give access to his PS4, but most of all not teach him better ways to be a gamer. My son is 6. He loves Mario. Todays Mario is totally different then mine growing up. If he dies enough, here comes the almighty Impenetrable Pwing to save the day. Ive taught him better. Its a crutch and it doesnt have to be used because not every game will offer you a way out when things get rough. Ive shown him to become better through trial and error and earn the right to play the next level.

Again. Hes 6. He knows better. Mario isnt the only game that tempts him as games on his iPad are constantly asking him to pay to advance or pay to get a few more gold bricks. Hes never purchased them, because he knows better. So is it wrong to ask why an 11 year old doesnt know better?

Feel bad for the kid, but I can not lie. The tension of him realizing what happened being broken with...

"Are you still getting heartburn flareups?"

Has had me giggling for the last 10 minutes.

Isn't the kid too young to play?

And why should the guy deserve a ban? He didn't technically break any rules and the kid gave him access to his console. It's the kid's fault.

Actually he did technically break rules, specifically:

You may not engage in deceptive or misleading practices.
You may not abuse or harass others, including stalking behavior.

Not to mention this isn't the first time he has done it.

I really don't get it guys. Why are people so gleeful about this?

So if I trick someone and take all of their money it's okay because they gave it to me?

That's some high class victim blaming.

Wow at some people at this thread. So this is the new modern gaming community or is it just Gaf reaching a new low?

Saying that lesson learned and kids need to move on are alright but thinking that it's funny with LOL or even saying he deserved it is absolutely disgusting.

An adult break a children toys and laugh at it..... think about it...... pathetic

So he took something away from a child to make the cry. I feel for the kid and have no sympathy for the jerk who did that to him.

In my eyes its like someone coming up to your kid on the street, taking his toy and throwing it under a truck to destroy it.

Destiny is rated teen. If a teen, he should have known better. If under, the main fault is with the parent who allowed their child to play. Either way, the people who deleted the characters and gear should be banned for being assholes. This incident should serve an important lesson to parents and others. It is easy to look with hindsight and say duh, but until I read this story, I never thought of others using SharePlay for such malicious uses.

I really don't get this reasoning at all, what does the rating have to do with it. If the game had been rated E10+ and the exact same thing happened, what changes?

online interactions aren't rated. this same thing could have happened (and it does) in an E rated game with any form of player communication.

I can't believe share mode allows people to delete things. I would imagine Bungie would be smart enough to at least limit some of the features in that mode.

Lol get some god damn perspective.

I'm tagging this thread for sure. It'll give me good insight into the thought process of some here for future shenanigans, because you know someone's gonna say something stupid.

I think the parents are more capable of deciding what's best for their child than you.

Getting pleasure out of the misfortunes of a child is pretty disgusting.

Maybe if you don't have a sense of humor. This isn't some poor homeless kid who can't find food, this is a kid who got trolled in a video game. Perspective.
