The Order 1886: Official spoiler thread for all black bars

Now that the game is released how long do we need to spoiler tag our discussion?

Otherwise:

Vampires and Werewolves!?

Yeah, I am glad I stayed in the dark on this one.

I love this stuff.

Gameplay-wise these were such a huge missed opportunity. The
Ripper
twist was pretty cool though.

What's the point of putting
Vampires
in the game when we never get to fight them? also, why are all the
Lycan
fights the exact same?

The story is just so underdeveloped and boring. So many questions unanswered.

Like
what the hell is blackwater? where does it come from? why can it heal people? I've only seen a stream playthrough but I don't think they have every answered those questions...

Also they should have made the members of The Order into vampires. Imagine later we find out Galahad is a vampire and we have completely new abilities, we need blood, must avoid daylight etc.

Vampires vs Lycans ...now THAT would have been fucking awesome but nooo soo much wasted potential.

Actually just two, which in itself is extremely disappointing. What in the world were they thinking?

I think two recycled boss battles and 3 lycan fights with the exact same shit to do where you have to dodge the lycan with pressing X quickly enough ...I can't believe they used the exact same thing 3 times in the game ...if i count correctly.
Oh and only
two
enemy types? come on...

Also the animations when Galahad is searching for stuff, documents or books etc. it's always the same fucking animations.... ugh.

Another thing is the extremely cringeworthy dialogue, they managed to turn Galahad from a badass into a whiny little bitch .... "A DRINK GODDAMN YOU" ..."COME OUT OF THE SHADOWS DAMN YOU"

*facepalm*

RAD please...

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are fucking insane, VA was great and the music is good (I love "The Edge of Sanity") but everything else needs A LOT of work. I have much respect for RAD but the sequel must change quite a bit. They probably spent too much time on the graphics engine and it shows.

I think it's just due to bad game designers and less on the engine work. Who would think it's a good idea to prevent taking cover while holding a lamp?

In itself not a spoiler, but since it adds some textual background for some of the characters, I thought I'd show you all who Lord Lucan is in the real world.

Yea it seems the game hit full production two years ago, it definitely shows.

Is
Lord Hastings supposed to be based on Warren Hastings? Warren Hastings was a century earlier, but he's a vampire and this is alternate history, so there's a chance it could be. Both were involved with India (specifically a "... India Comapny". I assumed the United India Company was supposed to be The Order universe's version of the East India Company.)

Probably not, but I thought it was interesting.

In itself not a spoiler, but since it adds some textual background for some of the characters, I thought I'd show you all who Lord Lucan is in the real world.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bingham,_7th_Earl_of_Lucan
Alastair isn't based on him. Lucan is his honorary title, named after Kind Arthur's butler Sir Lucan.

The Knights found the Holy Grail, that's where their immortality comes from

Who else thinks the game lacks humor? It's just way to serious for a fantasy story. The characters are cold.
Huh, didn't you see the part where the guy says "Stopped for a pint did you?" Absolutely hilarious 10/10 witty dialogue. /s Yes the game takes itself very seriously in the worst possible way. The closest thing we got to humor was a short sex scene, which is funny in itself because the guy says "No weapons allowed," yet we go to a room with a loaded machine gun while also being allowed to keep these huge ass knives on our back.

If the knights are
vampires
how do they operate in the daytime?

Anyone else think this.
I still think that the reason why you don't see reflections in mirrors. Is because of the Blackwater they drink. I think itis mixed with vampire blood, so they are infact all half breeds themselves. That or it has vampire like side effects.

Story-wise, they left so many things undeveloped.

The Ripper angle was lame, they just name drop it a few times and BAM, the main villain is Jack. Lame

Blackwater

Back story on members of the Order

Lucan's motivations

Vampires in general

They fucking allude to Sherlock Holmes being police commissioner, and do nothing with it.

Tesla's secret buddy

Plus, the whole vampires at the docks thing was just stupid and contrived. It's one thing to have fucking NOBODY believe Galahad, a seemingly respected member of the Order, but he just decides to torch the docks and not bring back evidence, like let's say a vamp head? Cmon, son.

I thought he was a werewolf?

EDIT: hmmm guess not.
It would've made more sense if he was a wolf cause what he it is doesn't really make much sense or have much value to the overall story.

I think we can attribute that to a game limitation than to the actual story.

Yeah felt like the game still had a year or two to go before it could be considered done, wish they would have released this for $40 as the Order 1886 part 1, I think people would have been a bit more forgiving. 10 hour (being GENEROUS) for a full playthrough and plat is not a $60 AAA studio game.

Also all those little notes you found everywhere from someone who seems to be spying on the Order, were those from the bad guys (the main bad guy you never fight) or from some other random third party watching over all factions? The notes seemed to really hate the Rebels so I assumed it was from the baddies, but the tone was very odd.

You think? That would be petty cool if so, but I would've thought he'd look the same age as the Lord Chancellor, maybe older. He looks about 40-50 when
he pulls you up in the boat.
It's my current thinking. That he's faded right into the background but is watching over the The Order he created himself.

Could easily be someobe else of course but given they've established the round table, Grail and at least one original knight are around it seems an obvious angle.

I was wondering about the sword used in the knighting ceremony - Excalibur?

It's gotta be.

Edit: nvm there is so many Order threads i don't know where i post.

the game had too many loose ends when the story finished

no ingrid resolution, she's just mad now
barely any between the old dude and werewolf order guy
jack the ripper still chilling
i don't recall anything being said about the rebel leader

Just finished the game. Enjoyed it a lot but was overall disappointed with the story.

-
Ending wasn't earned at all. We get it, you liked Blade Runner and MGS3.
-
The world and characters are brilliant, so why marry them into the most generic "We are fighting rebels, oh no wait the rebels are good, my organisation was bad?! Yay rebels!" Story ever?!
-
Vampires felt completely meaningless beyond explaining that Hastings was Jack, given that Lycans were shown to be more brutal in their killings so they couldn't hve Hastings be one AND Jack.
- Characters were way too quick to go from "These guys are innocent I don't want to kill them to proceed" to "Oh well, I guess more senseless slaughter wouldn't hurt"

You think? That would be petty cool if so, but I would've thought he'd look the same age as the Lord Chancellor, maybe older. He looks about 40-50 when

Given the lack of subtlety in any other aspect of the story, I don't see how there could be any question it is him (and that he was the "old man" Percival talks to multiple times.

They mention the rebel leader gets out of the city. It's in the weird middle credits scene. Still not much in the way of tying up a loose end though.

The stupidest thing is that RAD could have given us a halfway decent ending if Galahad stopped being an idiot for a second and 1) blew the lid off the conspiracy, 2) slew Hastings or whatever and 3) went rogue/off into the sunset with the french guy and the girl to track down the remaining vampires/elder werewolves.

That would probably have only taken a few more chapters at most and would probably have tipped the running time into something a bit more acceptable to the average message board gamer.

Yeah plot was garbage and Galahad spent half the game being a big idiot. Actually every character was speaking in riddles constantly.

Why does nobody believe in good communication? Every time someone alludes to something they have to couch it in mystery speak like this is a fucking episode of LOST. Your boss on the hot air balloon and his rebel buddy. The rebel leader refusing to just say "its fucking vampires, they're vampires" instead of forcing you to follow while mysteriously teasing that you'll soon see for yourself. Galahad not informing his fuckin girlfriend that there are vampires and the India company is evil and they're in cahoots with the order.

Even the final boss fight Lycan dude won't just spit it out. How did he fool them for so long? Why? If he's not evil why not just explain his reasoning and try to convince his fucking centuries-long comrade in arms that Lycans can be like normal people too and don't actually have to maul people to death?

I also can't believe we went so long before we found out what the Rebel motivation was. At the same time, this is a largely local organization with Brits staffing it, yet what is their motivation for joining? Do they just go around whispering in people's ears that the india company is evil? They NEVER try to share any of their rhetoric, background, origin or justification with the player. Do all these random civilians REALLY know about The Order's dirty laundry, that there are vampires and werewolves running the show? If so, why aren't there posters giving this info away on the walls? Or is there ANOTHER reason the rebellion exists, outside of this shady stuff? Please explain, RAD.

Also,
Did the chancellor know that his son was collaborating with a vampire?
So many questions left unanswered.

I really enjoyed this game, but like others I am disappointed that there wasn't a fight against
vampires.

There are quite a few unanswered questions, and I really hope they get to expand on the story in a sequel.

Finished the game earlier tonight, was real surprised that I got no collectible-associated trophies. I thought I checked every corner.

All in all, a great tech demo. I don't regret buying it, but the fact that the game ends in pretty much a cliffhanger is a spit in the face.
No Ripper resolution. No resolution to the vampires. Who was the old man? And so on. I don't need to know what blackwater was, but I do want to know which knights were the original knights and which weren't.

There were so many voices for knights and no faces at the trial.

Will do a trophy cleanup run some day.

Yup for me the story (and also I guess the game) needed about 1/3 more length. Would have made for a better game

Maybe this is why you should play a game rather than watch it as you absorb the story better

When men are Knighted they drink the Holy Grail. The vial is filled with it and from there on out they mix their blood with what is left in the vial to keep it topped up. This is all explained during the Knighting sequence

So here's what I got followed by what's unclear, curious as to other thoughts:

Vampires are in league with Lycans to spread their kind across the globe. Hastings seems to be the mastermind behind this but may not be
Rebellion is driven both by social inequality with hidden agenda of leaders to oppose Vampires & Lycans
Knights are unaware of much of this and oppose both sides: rebellion as threat to monarchy and established order and Lycans and Vampires as monstrous enemies of "normal" people
There are weak ass Lycans who are presumably bitten humans and Eldars who are a bit more kick ass but still pretty lame in a fight
The Lycans are attacking hospital to target Rebellion at behest of Hastings to eliminate opponents who are on to their plot
Queen Victoria may be missing or reclusive
The Knights long life and powers come from drinking from the Grail
The leader of the order and one of original Knights of Round Table adopts a Lycan son as well as a human daughter
Lucan thinks his actions are for protection of his race however he is not inherently evil and in fact hopes for a time of peace
Hastings is an evil old vampire who revels in killing and is behind Jack The Ripper murders
Percival is in secret communication with a mysterious figure
Tesla is actually supplying rebellion to aid their cause while also seeming loyal to The Order to some degree

What's unclear:

What's behind Vampies & Lycans allegiance (mutual interest seems a little thin)
Where did they come from and are they supernatural or mutations
Is Grail holy or something else : Galahad is clearly doubtful of God despite being part of an Order with access to the Grail of Christ that bestows long life
Who's the mysterious figure Percival and Telsa both know
How much does public know and where's Queen Victoria?
Are Igraine and Lucan merely adopted siblings? Seems so but not clear.

Myself I feel while there's an interesting world there some key character motivations are shaky and poorly explored. In particular Telsa, Lucan and the Leader of the Order (forget his actual name).

I feel RAD raised too many questions and answered to few for narrative balance. They needed to close of some points while raising bigger plot points to carry forward.

Tieing up Hastings plot fully and probably him too would have helped for example while leaving bigger background open.

I also think a plot that
by the end, has you mostly in combat with people who aren't actual clear foes was tonally off. You start by taking out escaped madmen (despite being told to be careful with approach) then move on to kicking Lycan ass (to have this questioned at the end) to taking down Rebels (who turn out to be good guys) to fighting through innocent soldiers merely protecting The Order dwelling). Apart from the raid on the docks you essentially kills tons of foes who really feel like the wrong foe by the end.

RAD also seemed to be all over the place thematically, particularly with Lucan and the Lycans.

I made a video. Posting here because of the spoilers.

QTE failures

Some of them are so brutal, I love it!

Sadly I missed one, Galahad got his head crushed on a banister but the cap button missed it.

so like...
wouldn't it have been much better for Galahad, if he'd told Isabeu and Lafayette about the conspiracy? The "rift" between Isabeu and Galahad felt so damned forced, everything after chapter 9 was just so poorly handled

Honestly, the only thing that doesn't get this game an 8 or a 9 from me is the story in the second half, they dropped the ball on that one, this was Ubisoft level storytelling.

Yeah it would of, it made no fucking sense that he didn't tell them, that and he didn't even speak up during his own trial. Seemed silly.

It's one of those cases where the less people know, the better for them. Galahad witheld information from them to protect them As we see in the game
the leaders of The Order doubt Galahad and sentence him to death. He didn't want to bring them in to this and have them dragged down with him, at least (imo) not until he had enough evidence to prove everything. He is very protective of Isy, and he doesnt seem like the kind of guy who'd want her execution/death on his conscience.

Also, I had that feeling with regards to the trial, but it could be one of those situations where he knew his crys would go on deaf ears. Look at how he reacted when initally told of the goings on "you look for conspiracies where there are none", normal men and women would view his ramblings as exactly the same, and just lump him in with the rebels as anarchist low lifes.

That was my take, i actually liked the ending and i was only dissapointed that from the reveal it looked like supernatural enemies would be the focus of the game but we end up fighting humans 95% of the game.

I was just so immersed in this awesome world to care much for the games shortcommings.

This game's ending was an utter failure.

It's Old Yeller and then cut to black.

And it really pissed me off cause I was genuinely loving the story up to that point. They finished it at the second act and then cut to black.

Utter failure in the narrative department, honestly. No questions answered, no arcs resolved, nothing.

WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING, RAD.

I can't decide if the game feels like a prequel or a second act (ala Empire Strikes Back). The story choices are baffling for it being the first game in the series.

DLC cause y not

Exactly. I was baffled in the second half.

At first, when Galahad wasn't standing up for himself at his trial, I was like "Fuck, maybe he just gave up" but I have no idea after why he's cut himself loose, but I was happy cause I like Galahad.

But okay, whatever.

But fucking, you shoot through everyone, kill Lucan, Chancellor's like "fuck off, you're the hero we deserve but not the one we need" you kill your friend who you barely had much attachment with in sorrow, the end, fucking JACK THE RIPPER IS A VAMPIRE AND IS STILL OUT THERE, ISI WANTS YOU DEAD, THE RESISTANCE RAN AWAY, WHERE THE FUCK IS LAFAYETTE AT, WHAT ELSE IS THE UNITED INDIA COMPANY PLANNING, WHAT THE FUCK IS GALAHAD DOING, it's like they wanted to do the ending to The Dark Knight and then FUCKED IT UP!

WHO THE FUCK WAS PERCIVAL TALKING TO? WAS HE TALKING TO THAT ONE UNITED INDIA COMPANY CAPTAIN THAT IS MENTIONED IN ONE FUCKING LETTER THAT CAN BE MISSED NEAR THE END OF THE GAME?

WHERE THE FUCK HAS LAKSHMI GONE, IS SHE A KNIGHT, WHAT THE HELL

JACK THE FUCKING RIPPER IS A VAMPIRE AND BASICALLY GOT AWAY

I don't fucking know what the hell is happening anymore.

The only possible, possible reason for not telling everyone Lucan is a fucking werewolf is that he didn't want to hurt Isi. And okay, I get that.

BUT WHAT THE HELL IS HE PLAYING AT NOT TELLING THE PEOPLE HE TRUSTS HIS LIFE WITH WITH ANY GODDAMN INFORMATION THAT WILL HELP HIM?

BUT NO, I SHALL BECOME VICTORIAN ERA STEAMPUNK BATMAN WITH TESLA AS MY ALFRED CAUSE THAT IS OBVIOUSLY WHERE WE ARE HEADING.

Sigh.

Game is so bad with all the QTE's and stupid stealth missions but I have to say I really like what they are going with the story.

I'm not sure if it's safe to talk about some the people you fight but I'll tag it
I like the supernatural elements to this game and from the commercials it seems if a sequel is made it could take some time in the future.

I went to this game not really knowing much accept it being a pretty game and I was disappointed by the game play or what little it had but I really think the story of The Order can get better with more time. They have so much lore to go with already.

Top Bottom
