Resident Evil Revelations 2 Reviews Thread

Huh, did Capcom actually make a good RE this time? I'll keep my expectations low after the abomination that was Revelations/6. Something tells me Capcom forked over cash to get such high reviews, I have no faith in these guys.

Reviewers pan The Order but give this good reviews?

Yeah, I think I'm officially done with reviews. If there's a game I wanna play I'm just gonna play it and forget this crap. I want to play both Revelations 2 and The Order, so it's all good.

Why? Because the reviewers don't adjust themselves to predetermined opinions caused by blind hype for The Order on one hand and dumb Tobey Maguire- and LostPlanet animation gifs for this title on the other?
This title always looked good and its predecessor has also already been better than last gen's mainline REs (3DS version anyway). No idea why everyone kept knocking it. Good to see that nothing's fundamentally broken or anything, judging by the reviews.

Resident Evil 6 got wrecked by reviews and I enjoyed it so whatever. Not expecting much from this so I won't be disappointed.
Everything I've seen about Revelations 2 makes it look like an RE6 incarnate and that's just enough to have me thinking about passing; and I've been an RE fan since day one and double-dipped many times on past games (other than 6). The series has lost its way. A shame since the first Revelations was a real return to form, IMHO.

4 whole points more than the Order, damn those biased reviewers and their paychecks!

This and the Order are two different games, two completely different beast. One a AAA 60 dollar game, the other a 25 dollar budget game. Why are people comparing the two?

Because it's a review thread and we need to stir up some shit. It just wouldn't be right otherwise.

Anyway glad to see the game reviewing for what it is, a fun ride made on a low budget with solid gameplay and a really cool raid mode. The scores are a lot higher than I was expecting.

Both are out of stock. That was fast.

Oh my, they weren't when I linked them, hopefully might get new ones soon. XD; I think it sold out so quickly right now because reviews have ended up being pretty decent for the game, much better than I think most were expecting, that with the cheap price tag and the name brand of the franchise I think is making a lot of people decide to last-minute pre-order.

I'm surprised that this game is getting decent-to-great reviews. So being a RE fan I played REV2 for an hour and it's exactly what I expected. The environments are bland and there is almost no atmosphere, it looks like HD remastered version of a PS2 game, it's like they copied/pasted the mechanics of the modern RE's with no real thought into the layout. Something just feels off about this game imo.

I'm actually a little disappointed that this game is getting great reviews...... I have a feeling there won't be any incentive for Capcom to do a remake of RE2 with high production values when they can just copy/paste the same old RE4 mechanics into bland, tasteless environments with no art direction and package the game using an outdated PS2-era engine. If fans eat up anything they throw why put in the extra effort? We all know Capcom these days.... RIP Resident Evil

The Order 1886 got 4-6/10 from the same sites that are giving this game 8/10s.... that makes no sense to me at all.

Grow the fuck up.

Anyway, I'll wait for the retail version personally, but glad it's getting favorable reviews.

They forked over money for most 7-8 territory reviews? Was it monopoly money?

Yeah, but you're the same guy who came in the OT spouting a lot of bullshit about how horrible the game was going to be because of how horrible RE was post-PS2 or whatever. So, yeah, big shock that you hated the game that you pretty much shouted from the rooftops was going to be bad to begin with. An avatar change doesn't wash away the shame, son.

Why it makes no sense? REV2 is filled with countless cinematics, poor pacing and basic gameplay? It might not be a GOTY contender but it seems solid, like an actual fleshed out game with more fleshed out mechanics, some puzzles and exploration, seems to be doing more than The Order to me.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, and there was more game than I was expecting. It probably doesn't even have the production values of the first Revelations, but the combat/enemy types are infinitely better, and area design is a big improvement, if not as creepy, pretty or fanservice-y. I like the dual character thing as well, both in terms of respective mechanics and the way you have to be simultaneously responsible for both. I probably won't buy subsequent episodes, because I intended to get the disc from the beginning, but all in all I think this is a good start.

So Revelations 2 seems to be better than 6? :p

Not even close.

Not even close.

Gameplay wise it's not as good, but the atmosphere and music are sure going a long ways toward making me like this one more personally overall. It ticks off a few more boxes for me than RE6 did, despite me enjoying that one and not being one of its dissenters.

Unless you're just referring to quality for some reason, the games look nothing alike, even visually. I'm not seeing how the first, immediate comparison isn't just Rev1.

the reviews being for one episode are so weird when thinking of the game as a whole package. especially in an action game, where divvying things up can be extra strange as the general progression of encounters and whatnot should ultimately be designed to suit the player's experience with the system

i guess that issue exists for all episodic games though.

I think so far the atmosphere is def above RE6 - minus Leons campaign. Music is creepy and along wth the visuals it's quite amopsheric. Fog in the distance, creepy ambience of sounds in the forest, etc. Yeah you can see that this won't look as good as a full budget game but Its much better then expected, especially in motion.

From what I'm hearing, the game plays very differently from Resident Evil 6 and is designed very differently, so the comparison isn't justified I feel.

Except....

The game I think is running on a modified RE6 engine. I've noticed they used a lot of animations from RE6 and some of the objects are from Resident Evil 6, so technically it does LOOK like Resident Evil 6 in some ways, but its gameplay I hear is very different.

The first Revelations was guilty of a lot of these interlude missions that were full of more stupidity and mindless, gunning action than I can explain. I have no idea how that was a real return to form. If anything, and it's still early days as we only have one episode, Revelations 2 has a better horror vibe. The stuff on the ship in the first game was pretty decent, but I'm liking the horror aspects much more in this one. I don't see how you could play the second one and say that the first one was a return to form compared to this one.

I got the sense in the past that many assumed this game would be terrible... and now I see that some people are surprised by decent reviews.

Why is this???

People didn't like Resident Evil 6/Revelations 1, or thought as it wasn't a graphical looker it couldn't possibly be good. To be fair, some of Capcom's showings of the game weren't the best, I initially wasn't very interested in it, but it grew on me over time.

This is also the cheapest Resident Evil at launch right? I think most people will get plenty of bang for their buck if there into the whole length/extras/unlocks.

The only issue I have is that godawful blood filter that happens whenever you get injured...

it's the worst I've ever seen of those godawful red shit filters ever.

There seems to be a lot of replay value and content; then again the same could be said for Ground Zeroes, but people seemingly just ran through that one mission as fast as they could and delightfully ignored everything else it had to offer.

yeah I hate it, there is no need for the screen to be covered in red when low in health but they did it anyway, it's annoying and shit.

If anything RER2 has a solid, competent campaign with a story, and has extras to boot. It's easier for players to see the value in this game versus in MGS GZ you sort of had to discover it moreso, if you ask me.

Ground Zeroes had a story and quite a lot of information. It's all there. It's just that not too many people apparently gave enough of a shit to actually discover any of it. I get what you're saying, but GZ could keep you occupied for more than 10 hours if you gave it the time of day. There was a lot of replay value there and in typical MGS fashion one of the highlights was actually learning the environment, enemy AI, and so on. I don't want to turn this into a GZ discussion, I just hate it when developers give players a lot of content and they ignore it and claim that it's too short or not worth the money, when in fact there's plenty to do.

I also do think that GZ was clearly made for the fans as something to do in the meantime until The Phantom Pain hits. I'm not sure they should have charged $30 or $40 for it, but I certainly got my money's worth out of it.

I hear ya though, also it was the pricing. That's why I think the 24.99 for RER2 is a perfect entry price :D

Crazy if some didn't enjoy Revelations 1... that was a fantastic game. I get RE6 though...

Surprisingly decent reviews for the first episode. Everything I've seen leading up to the release of this game pointed to it being as bad or worse than Resi 6. I'll wait to see how the rest of it turns out before even considering giving it a chance. I just don't like the newer, action-heavy design of the RE series these days. It's not scary.

This post couldn't be any more ridiculous. I don't know why but The Order seems to have made a good part of gaf lose their fucking minds.

also wondering how much raid mode and the weird as hell "no co-op until all episodes are released" thing plays out in terms of value judgement since it's supposedly pretty expansive

Game with shitty graphics with good gameplay and replayability, reviews better than game with super detailed and gorgeous graphics with little to no gameplay and replayability.
