New direct feed (but 1280x720) Final Fantasy XV screens from the demo, also Type-0 HD

The holy grail for some for others TLG.

I always believed but there were some scary moments when it felt like it was going the way of TLG.

I'm more excited for Type-0 HD than I am the XV demo, tbh.

I've been waiting a hell of a long time to play Type 0 and even resisted the temptation to play the PSP translation to wait for this, but the FFXV demo overshadows it for me. But don't get me wrong, if the demo wasn't there I'd still be excited for it.

Sarcastic in nature poking fun at the misery exhibited by some, great gaffer btw.

I wondered after some people's responses if it was supposed to be some joke post, but at this point, taking what he said at face value isn't all that bad. Given the sacrifices made for this game so far, I don't think I'd care at this point. What's been shown still makes it looks like it'll be a good game.

I like you.

If I was in charge of SCE WWS, even if the game was 99% complete (since we're in a thread of the company that likes using meaningless percentages), but most people were happy to accept it was dead, I'd kill it just so those people's beliefs weren't wrong. That's the kind of person I am. I believe people's beliefs deserve to be rewarded.

You don't do what's sensible. You do what you feel is right. That's why the world is such a great place today, everywhere. And money.

Honest question: is Tetsuya Nomura gay? If so, he should consider coming out of the closet as he would be an inspiration to a lot of people. I know the culture is a bit different in Japan and people aren't quite as uptight about it, but it's important to have famous people come out to deter stereotypes.

For someone who has not played Final Fantasy before, would anyone of you guys recommend me trying out Type-O HD? What is it like? I mean I have played jrpgs before and I know what kind of stories and battle systems they have usually. Also I have seen Advent Children.

Why does it matter whether he's gay or not? What does his sexuality have to do with the quality of a video game? I'm confused.

I would have been fine with a shitty pop song that was actually written for the game instead of a random song stuck in there for shameless marketing reasons. FFXIII-2 had a shitty Jpop song at the end of it but at least it was made for the game.

oh god, that ending and that song... i sincerely think FF13's was better.

He's not implying it is. He's just saying that if he was, he would be a good public figure to encourage people to be more open about their sexuality in Japan.

Either way, waaaay off topic, lol.

I'm laughing so fucking hard right now. Where the hell did this come from?

.....so speaking of "deterring stereotypes", I think you're holding a few.

Imagine producing a ton of art and not being able to show it to anyone for a decade. You know the day is coming when you can finally show everyone what you've worked on but the years just keep passing by.

The amount of frustration the artists have probably coped...

It would not shock me if things get cut to meet deadline.

They already cut character switching, so there's that.

Honestly, while I'm still looking forward to the game I just can't muster up the same excitement I had pre-TGS 2014. I thought it might be my first real 10/10 game, but the changes to the team and potential changes to the scope of the game have kind of extinguished that. I still think it could be really good, but I don't think it'll hold quite the significance to me I was originally hoping for.

Which isn't inherently a bad thing. Sometimes deadlines are just needed to weed out weak ideas, stop permanently adding more and more mechanics that'll be hard to balance and focus on the important stuff instead.
That's why vertical slices/demos like Episode Duscae are actually very good, as it forced the team to work on a solid enough, playable and shared vision as an aid for the rest of the development.

The demos for XIII and now XV are pretty much the only way they ever shaped these monstrous workflows into a final product.

agreed, but let's hope magic actually makes it :P

I don't mind on-rails driving that much, but I hope Chocobos are easily accessible off-road in that case.

Wish we could stuff a Chocobo in our car for convenience.

Have you heard of the Five Stages of GAF? Pretty much expains it all.
Are you doing another bet this year? That was quite amusing.

Well, the scope is still there, it's just that so many games from the announcement to now have gotten close to meeting that same scope that this doesn't seem as promising anymore.

This game would still be extremely impressive if it kept all 4 different battle systems and all the stuff Nomura envisioned, but unfortunately he went a little overboard with that. But, fortunately or unfortunately, they have to release the game at one point, so they can't put all that stuff in the game.

For XIII sure, but I doubt this is the case for XV. They didn't seem to hesitate in taking away KH's combat and put their own thing in, so I doubt there's a lack of vision here.

I'm pretty sure he's married with a wife. I'm not sure if he has kids or not tho, but he's almost certainly not gay.

He has a wife and children

Also despite the weird shit in media, the country is generally pretty homophobic than say US

You say deadline, I am sure they (SE) will see it as ways to make DLC

Tabata has already said that there are no plans for DLC whatsoever for content. He is playing with the idea of a rating increase DLC like more added blood and stuff, according to the JPGames interview people were sourcing earlier in the thread.

9 years later and we still #believing! #Believe

Imo he pokes fun at ppl still clinging towards the versusXIII concept like okay some elements are still there and alive but people have to realize that versusXIII scope and ambition was insane, at least Tabata has a clear understanding about what can be done and what's not feasible. He's doing his best so it's pretty admirable imo.

I'd actually be fine with DLC if only it added some things I'd reallynlike. A DLC summon that wasn't done in time for the main game would be right up my alley, with an optional dungeon for it to reside in.

Gambling DLC though? No thanks.

XIII-2 seemed very intent on tapping into the western RPG playerbase, or at the least learning what makes them WRPGs tick. I think it was as much a learning/experimental experience for Square that they were willing to take considering it was fundamentally not a mainline game, and with Tri-Ace developing a lot of it. Many of its subsystems are literally staples of WRPG.

Non-linear story progression, check
Dialogue options, check (lol)
QTE, check (god damnit)
Vast array of recruitable party members, check, sorta (this was done in previous FF games though)
Multiple endings, check
Interactive/dynamic music, check
Lots and lots of DLC strung out on a pseudo-fixed schedule, check
Story DLC (lol), check
