Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

The demo didn't even have paradigms though, did it? That's like the crux of XIII's battle system

Yeah, it didn't. A lot of XV's mechanics will be absent in the demo as well, like Gambit, Magic, Summon (I know there's the summon beast, but can we summon it in battle?), aerial combo, monster free-run and perhaps more.

Right, it's an important collaboration years in the making at this point lol.

Was Versus XIII's reveal clothes designed by Roen? If so then they should include this as an alternate outfit for Noctis at least.

Licensed music in bulk is never a good idea long-term. Never.

Unless you like headaches dealing with self-important pompous types 20 years down the road about lapsed licenses and dumb shit like platform/rerelease/promotional/sequel/whatever restrictions because that was the only way the fee is going to be anywhere close to practical for bulk.

I think it could be fun if Shimomura tried to emulate different modern genres like Pop, Hip-Hop or EDM with an unique twist for the radio stations near Noctis' modern home city.

I was thinking maybe it could play remixes of old Final Fantasy tracks.

Ooh, they could listen to The Black Mages!

That's quite a tall order.

Might be fun to see a whole bunch of different VGM composers remix classic Final Fantasy tracks though. Basically a pseudo-album that isn't FFXV OST but is music used in the game specifically for that purpose on the scale of the amount of people who contributed to projects like Xenoblade or Terra Battle.

I know you can still hold for a basic combo, but the things like parries, perfect dodging, etc. seem like things that weren't even hinted back then. And I remember how Tabata stressed how combat changed from Nomura's initial vision, but now, it seems pretty in line with what got us hyped all those years ago.

Just because he never hinted it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Remember that he initially didn't want to talk too much about how the system worked in detail. But unfortunately he said enough to reveal that it wasn't combo or active-press based for dodging and attacks.

Yeah I had mentioned this to someone on Twitter earlier as well. Would be nice to get the outfits for all the characters from Versus XIII.

Though this might break the immersion.... itwouldbesoawesome. >__<

How would it break immersion?

There's stuff like Coleman and Roen in the game.

Having a band in the universe that just so happens to be The Black Mages isn't that much further of a stretch. (It's actually less of a stretch)

Besides things like a couple of camera quirks and escaping battles easier, I'm personally shocked at how well received the base combat is. People really seem to stress how strategic and good it feels, and that there's still reactionary systems that will please action fans.

That was definitely my biggest concern, and I'm glad for the most part, I was worried for nothing. I wonder, is it possible that this combat system is different from TGS 2014, where everyone freaked out about "holding buttons"? People who complained about the battle system probably never played Type-0. It has literally the same system.

Actually, if you equip Avoid, then you don't even need to hold a button for you to dodge in that game...

Or how the game was casualised compared to its predecessors.

Please. Turn based FFs were the very definition of 'press one button to awesome.'

Btw, now that we know that Noctis climbing on the Behemoth is a parry and not a parkour system, then I don't think there's anything that still points to a "free run" mechanic (other than a setpiece on the 2013 trailer).

Which is funny, now that FF seems to be becoming harder (with the exception of XIII-2) people complain about it being more casual.

I would love something like FFXII with the difficulty of XIII or Type-0.

I meant more that hearing songs from other games might break the immersion of the ffxv world. Since I'm not familiar with those brands of clothes, they don't take me out of it. That being said, a "Best of FF" or Black Mages radio station would be amazing.

Oh man, that's my favorite gameplay complaint. It's one thing to want turn-based and prefer it as a model as gameplay. That's totally fine. But people who would try to say that FF would lose it's strategic nature, with action focus make me chuckle. FFs were always laughably easy. Just Attack (or Special Attack), with cure, and you can beat the main game of a majority of them.

Exactly. FF has always been light on strategy/deep thinking part, especially since the introduction of ATB, which covers most of the beloved entries (IV-IX). Most of them just boils down to using the one with highest damage ability, elemental weakness and recovery. Among those, only V requires more planning and stuff due to the job system, and I guess VII with materia, but they're more of the supporting mechanics and not the battle system itself.

I don't like the clothing choice either. These don't look even remotely appropriate for a trip let alone combat. It‘s about the same as an armored lingerie. Gratuitous and takes you right out.

The clothes are awesome.

People want them to wear medieval armor(which absolutely doesn't jive with the FF7-8-esque world) or typical dude bro clothes ?

Nah gimme dat Roen.Would've liked a little colour variety but ,still , it looks great and eye catching.

I could totally go for a FF remix station sorta like what Smash Bros does. Perhaps even featuring famous game composers doing arrangements? I could see Takeheru Ishimoto and SAWA make some vocal tracks ala TWEWY for a radio station from Lucius.

It's... rather bizarre to think you could have worked on a game the better part of a decade ago and pass away before it releases. :|

I like how explosive he looked, physically. Not sure how much of that is the wardrobe style or if his physical frame is different.

I don't mind that they spoil the demo, because after all it's just a demo, and playtesting ground, for me. But for the final game, I am definitely going on a media blackout.
