Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Some of the headlines are just too much. People should stop using such big words like 'masterpiece' or 'most ambitious game ever' describing upcoming games to avoid massive disappointment.

Seriously. If the Duscae alone with its missing subsystems is the best Final Fantasy in generations, the full game is probably going to cause a temporal paradox.

It's Final Fantasy hype. There's nothing quite like it once people are convinced that it may deliver. After last gen i'm sure Square is ecstatic about those headlines. It may place expectations insanely high, but it also shows that they're on the right track.

one the one hand I agree - better to play it safe, but on the other this game will not see the light of day until next year so the hype will probably decline somewhat before release.

Now I have the money for a PS4 and the game.

But not enough for a HDTV! (My ps3 TV is 720p max, 8 years old and on its last legs).

Must scrape together the funds somehow!

Ah, eff it and keep your TV :P I have a 32" 720p/768p TV for years now. I'm sitting at least 3-4m (10-13ft) away from it and for me everything looks like it has 32x of every kind of AA on it, which is awesome, haha.
Maybe that's also why I don't care about all that resolution jabbering. Though I just have a high tolerance in general and played many games with low resolution and sub 30 framerate on my crappy PCs - at the same time I totally appreciate high IQ too, of course, and love to marvel at great visuals, but in some types of games it just doesn't matter. Hell, Deadly Premonition might be the technically worst game I played since the early N64 days and I still had an absolute blast :D

Not really for me, but for many people I think it is....

It's pretty easy to avoid it.

Also, 98% of the people playing the demo won't know anything about it, and the remaining 2% would have to rummage through Twitter to find it or accidentally come across it.

That's the thing. I'm not certain that it will deliver, and this may sound odd considering that I'm rocking an avatar of the game's character and bloody excited in general. I do look forward to the game so much, but it's always a bad idea to overhype a game, unless it's Bloodborne or the next Naughty Dog game or something. Something everyone is sure that will come out and at least be good if not great.

Actually, considering the way this is set up, as in you'd really have to want the demo to drop $60 on a game (an excellent one, mind you) I'd wager a non-insignificant fraction of people who are getting the demo are hardcore enough fans that they'd be e.g. getting #FFXV plastered in their faces.

not surprised they disabled share play. They know people will only buy type 0 for the demo and they are still trying to charge full price for a 4 year old PSP game, it is pretty shameful.

edit:
Actually when you have an orchestrator, a recording engineer, an 80 piece orchestra, production manager, mixing engineer, etc. all on contract, orchestral pieces tend to be personally much less work than something you slave away at by yourself on a DAW.

Hmm, right, but at the same time it might also be more personal, fun and challenging, especially if you have been making mostly symphonic music, like Shimomura has in the last years.

I was arguing with myself regarding the percentages.

95% sounds good then.

But even the most dedicated fans might not want to spoil the demo six days before release lol.

Just bought the game YAAAAAY

FF is one of a kind game, there's nothing similar to it, even though nowadays there are plenty of blockbusters the FF series brings something different than your yearly copy/paste Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty, and we shouldn't forget that the first blockbuster game ever was FFVII, so the hype comes naturally.

Earlier in the thread, someone asked if the victory fanfare is in Type-0.

It is, but I think it's only when someone levels up, if I remember correctly.

Oh man, is this another game that I'll beat before I even start to play it?

I still had fun with BBS though.

Anyway, the summon looks cool. But is there any information on how you use it?

Wait, there are pics of the summon?

Some poor quality scans, yeah. Banned here obviously. If you already know the summon's identity it looks about as you'd expect. No one seems to know how the actual summoning mechanics work though...

I didn't want the spoiler myself but accidentally stumbled on it. Kinda bummed.

with that picture quality I don't really feel like anything was spoiled more than the name.

It's true, and it was my fault for not being careful. I just didn't think there would be any picture leak because I'd heard the press wasn't allowed to reveal it, so I wasn't cautious. Looks pretty cool though, for those curious who are successfully avoiding spoilers.

I'm so glad you guys are so careful about not mentioning who the summon is. I've been trying to avoid it and so far so good!

Is it known when the demo is going up on Tuesday? Will it be an overnight thing, or will we be waiting on Grace Chen time?
