It's okay, this is the same day Lupe Fiasco put that girl on blast. Dude was like the Mayweather of twitter that day. Get ethered on by Lupe Fiasco brehs...

when Lupe shits on you...its time to re-evaluate your trade and see if UPS is hiring...goddamn.

I finally got a chance to sit down and read the lyrics while listening and it's given me a greater appreciation for some of the songs that I don't like sonically. While I'll never love the institionalized or the interludes, or even complexion, I have to respect them.

I've completely come around on "u" though. Found it kind of obnoxious the first few times I listened to it, now I love it. That last half...good lawd.

Was just listening to this one. He almost sounds like eminem or something in the second half. Pretty obnoxious but I see what he's going for. I really loved the first half though. I love a lot of these songs.

I was holding out for someone to gif this. gonna get use

I'm not surprised dickthony aintfreetano went with the 10. he loves jazzy experimental shit and behemoths of albums that'll feed into continuing discussion. TPAB fits that to a t.

Whyyyy did you quote that shit

I'm surprised people don't like the beats on this album -- I think they're all pretty amazing. I love how jazzy they are.

Couple things...

I was concerned that after GKMC, Kendrick was gonna get way too caught up and held back by all the new shit happening in his life.

Because of that, I was hoping that this new album would just be another GKMC and hope that the quality would remain. It's very very nice to see that he pushed through everything, and challenged himself to try something new.

That's all I could really hope for. Kendrick is clearly an artist, so it's always in everyone's best interest that Kendrick challenges himself to do new things.

Whether you like this albums sound or not, there's no denying that lyrically, he's on another level compared to his peers. Thematically, this is a fantastic follow up.

I decided to listen some old Kendrick songs I didn't give enough attention, so I checked Cartoon & Cereal and... Oh my god, did Gunplay, I repeat, GUNPLAY, just renegade Kendrick? That last verse was way too good to be true, specially coming from a mediocre rapper like Gunplay.

The song as a whole is fucking good, but I'm shook .

Gunplay's lowkey the nicest in MMG. Too bad he stays getting involved in stupid shit (like getting his chain snatched by 50's goons) and Ross has him relegated to weed carrier status.

Also for the record, Rock has the best verse on gkMC.

That gif's been giving people browser issues, myself including. Hopefully it doesn't get use.

I've never been a big fan of jazz or jazzy hip hop beats, but there's enough of an old school funk/R&B influence for me to not mind.

This album is like the hip hop version of What's Going On by Marvin Gaye.

Besides i, I can see King Kunta, Alright and You Ain't Gotta Lie getting radio rotation. There are less catchy songs out there, so... why not?

For context, I'm a 32-year-old black man that grew up in Inglewood which is largely considered a first cousin to Compton for so many unfortunate reasons...

About 4 full spins in, it is hard articulating the feelings this new Kendrick Lamar album is pulling out of me. Haven't heard something that takes me on such a range of conflicting emotions ranging from rage, sadness, melancholy, empathy, and even pride.

Kendrick spectacularly captures the pain and guilt that comes with "making it" in a backdrop where so many don't make two cents, much less make "it." I can definitely relate in the realization of what success means in the face of so many people you grew up with struggling or even being six feet under due to senseless violence.

The album has me thinking about relative and absolute truth, and who decides what's what. What end on, for now, is that K Dot not only took the red pill, he downed the whole f'n bottle, and we are seeing the implications of that thru this ART.
word.

Not sure if it's been answered already...but is that song he did on Colbert report ever getting released? I really liked that song.

so u is the lowest point on the album when Kendrick's relationship with Lucy was at its peak and i is the highest point on the album when Kendrick's relationship with himself was at its peak. loving yourself, imperfections and all, is loving God. u is Kendrick looking outward, i is Kendrick looking inward.

Man "How Much a Dollar Cost" is wrecking me once the lyrics started to click with me.

From the "Pyramid Song"-esque atmosphere to the story he's telling as the song progresses. Such a damn good track.

Y'know I'm really enjoying this album a lot more than I expected I would.

On second listen, this album is DEEP. I'm glad it's nothing like GKMC. I like to see growth and Kendrick has done just that. Very introspective, funny, thought provoking shit. It's something refreshing. Lyrically he's on his own plane. The interview with Pac was incredible, with Pac saying "we ain't really rappin, we just lettin our dead homies tell stories to us". Got DAMN. The only thing that will take getting used to for me is the Institutionalized beat, other than that, everything else is a great ride.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this album and the Black Messiah album go hand in hand.

The intro to Hood Politics has a beat that's really reminiscent of something I know but I can't place my finger on it. Anyone have any ideas? Knowing full well that is a difficult question.

EDIT: I get a real Daft Punk - Fragments of Time vibe from it or at least that's what my brain is telling me it is right now.

Not sure, but I want a full song with that beat because it's so fucking good.

You and me both brother! It's great!

Qft! Honestly the production is my favorite part of the album. I can't stand the horrible 808, and overplayed funk/soul type hip-hop beats!

So this album has been growing on me since it dropped but it hadn't surpassed gkmc. But after reading some interpretations of the album and stuff and deeply listening to the lyrics back to back this album is beautiful and in my opinion is so much better.

Kendrick manages to make me empathise with the message he's trying to tell so much it truly is amazing.

The production on the album, the rapping, the different voices used to convey various emotions (goddamn 'u').

And then Mortal Man. Just wow. I can't really put into words how this song made me feel or the conversation with Pac at the end but I do know I was close to tears.

I said this after gkmc but its even more apparent, King Kendrick is the greatest of all time.
