Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

That quote fits well for me. Kojima finally broke free of the series that he's been chained down to. He can "live" now.

So could this mean that Kojima will leave Konami after MGS V is done and then Konami will keep making Metal Gear(s) wihtout him?

Maybe Kojima will start making other games?

My take?

This is Kojima being Kojima. This isnt the first time he's pulled a fast one on April Fools.

April Fools is almost two weeks away. April 1st is the beginning of a new fiscal year in Japan. You can't really fuck around like this, especially when it comes to titles of important employees at an executive level, when shareholders are involved.

That's pretty good coverage for something that was clearly put together relatively quickly. It also brings up points which I don't think anyone mentioned in this thread yet. A bit of investigation shows that the logic matches up.

Look at the date. That would mean that this organization restructure went into effect on Monday. This would also explain why Kojima Productions has been effective removed as a branding. The emphasis on KONAMI above all.

It's also worth looking at this press release announcing the release date of MGSV: http://www.konami-digital-entertain...se/2015/0305/?cm_sp=01-_-release-_-20150305-e

Notice that the entire press release doesn't mention Kojima's name once, nor does it mention Kojima Productions. It even says the Fox Engine is developed by KONAMI. Which lines up with the HQ-driven reorganization.
But isnt Koji-Pro a great brand to go by as well? And I couldnt name a person that I know that cant tie Koji-pro with Konami anyway.. Seems like an odd move to me.

That makes sense. Or is the biggest April Fools of all time :P

Konami are restructuring alright. Question remains though: Why are they effectively erasing any trace of Kojima and Kojima Productions? That's the big Q.

It's odd.

But is Kojima gone?

They removed Kojima's name from the boxart of MGSV? Evidence? Pics? Why

From the websites (old vs new).

Maybe he saw sense and admitted that game development is a joint effort and plastering his name all over something might belittle the rest of the team's contributions?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So it's effectively a rebranding, taking focus away from individual directors and putting the spotlight on konami itself. Similar to how Mario Galaxy doesn't say "A Miyamoto Game" on it, but rather, just nintendo.

Aaah OK.

They just want to back away from the kojima branding and glorify Konami as a brand due to the restructuring.

He's probably retiring or they didn't like the attention Kojima had as a separate entity.

Surely this doesn't mean Silent Hills is no longer happening, P.T. was such a big success and was poised to revitalize Silent Hill as a brand!

Konami can't be that dumb, right?

Koizumi would be pretty mad if it did say "A Miyamoto Game".

That could be it. I wouldn't be shocked if he was going to leave after MGSV. I do wonder what the state of Silent Hills is now

Kojima had a good run in getting himself featured so well front and centre in all the game branding, pretty unprecedented in the industry - well, maybe Sid Meier aside. He must have benefitted massively from building his name.

Yes, they can't screw the game up even if Kojima left. But I'm worried about Konami without him...

Well, Konami was slowly getting out of the video game business, anyway. This will hasten the process, but it's not like it's anything but an intentional move on their part. Metal Gear still makes money, Silent Hills had strong names attached, the rest? We weren't going to get a new 2D Castlevania (or even a 3D one for that matter), a new Contra, a new Mystical Ninja, etc.

(For the record, I'm actually not that confident Silent Hills will continue to exist, but we'll see.)

Kojima was the executive who oversaw all video game production at Konami. At a time when Konami was actively getting out of video games, I imagine this was not the most fun job.

For me, the curious thing is the timing. It must be some kind of financial year consideration.

Reading more about it, I can see the branding angle they keep stroking. Konami needs to be the brand here, not Kojima, seems to be their thinking. It's odd that they'd just scrub all the marketing material like that though.

I just want to know for sure nothing is up, it's not that serious, and Silent Hills is still happening.

Boy this is heartbreaking and worrisome.

Kojima Productions being wiped...the LA branch becoming 'Konami LA Productions'....someone made a power play in Konami, and they didn't like that Kojima had so much freedom. Fuuuck this doesn't bode well.

I'm worried.

Kojima goes to Platinum Games

He teams up with Kamiya

They collaborate to make Metal Gear Rising 2

Only Nintendo wants to take the risk and publishes it

It becomes a launch title for the Nintendo NX

Neogaf rage ensues, death threats and shit posts of "they stole our game!" Posts clog the internet.

The neogaf thread becomes a graveyard of massive bannings for ridiculous over reactions.

The game goes on to sell 400k worldwide but win Neogaf GOTY 2016 with even more rage posts about how a nintendo game won GOTY.
