Is PlayStation no longer doing exclusives?

Imo it will do many exclusives and huge IPs with PS6.
This generation MS just gave up and also sent all exclsuives on PS5. As a result i think Sony is not pressuring this generation and will go all guns blazing next gen, in around 1 year

If most or all of their studios really rebooted development after cancelling several GaaS games then they'll probably preparing for PS6 instead and just leaving third parties or some money hatted studio finish this generation
Then PS6 games, technically speaking, have cost the consumers to own a PS5 and some of them even a pro?

I don't mind. Put AstroBot on Switch 2/PC and I'll be set. That's the main title I want from Ps5.

For the time being it doesn't make much sense for Sony to pay for exclusives that it isn't publishing itself.

It is no longer in direct competition with Xbox, Switch 2 isn't going to run games like The Witcher 4 any where close to what the PS5 delivers if at all, so unless Sony starts a PC store in the next year or two, I don't see any impetus for them to spend money getting games that will already end up selling majority on PS5.

Once they have their own handheld, I think we'll see them spend more on Japanese exclusives knowing they'll be exclusive to both the handheld and PS5/6,

The next 12-18 months are going to be some of the most pivotal in gaming history, largely surrounding GTA6 being perhaps the largest media launch in history and functionally exclusive to PS5...

Sony sees that it works great without pressuring, why would they go all in next gen without Xbox? I'd rather expect that we see less >300 million dollar single player games next gen.

Exclusives are what sells systems. There's already no reason anymore to buy a PS5 when it all can be played somewhere else. While I love PlayStation, for the next-gen I am not going to bother, I'm going to go full PC + Nintendo in the future. My PC is currently just a Final Fantasy XI and XIV machine, but in the future that's going to change

If they arent pressured now why would they be guns blazing with ps6 since they know ppl will buy it anyway

So whats the problem 😃
Nothing, this is the only PS generation I skipped though and thought of jumping back in ps6 but that money seems better spent upgrading PC

picking up my switch 2 tomorrow so will likely make that my primary system when it comes to console gaming

Also offers portability so it really doesn't feel redundant at all compared to PC

Sony first party took a gen off thanks to jim and hulst... we will see them on ps6.

Maybe.
IDK if being sarcastic or not but yea, we should see a ton of stuff at the end of the PS5 gen. Sony is in a cycle right now where all of their big games have been coming towards the end of the generations like PS3, then PS4 and PS5 to follow. It's why we've been getting so many damn "Next gen Remasters".

There is no point. I'm serious. People here on GAF who have a PC and Playstation, should stop at the PS5.

Again, I'm being serious.

Still endlessly entertaining to watch people whine that a corpo isn't locking games off to a single place anymore. It's their job to sell a platform, not your job as a consumer to care how.

Being exclusive doesn't magically grant quality, and if a dev lacks the resources to do multi-plat release well...just release one and target the other platforms later (Sony even bought porting studios to make it easier).

I still remember a time when you bought a console for more than just exclusive games....back when they actually took advantage of being custom boxes to have unique features and services.

Many people don't want a pc, but still like good graphics. Their only option is the PS5. Sony could disband all their studios and the PS6 would still sell 100m.
But a pc can do everything a console can do, better, cheaper and more future proof (and backwards proof too)

I know that, you know that. Yet many people are like:
Too complicated, too expensive, not couch friendly etc. and Sony also has many fanboys who would never not buy their consoles.

The audience making that complaint owns both platforms.

The audience you're describing doesn't.

The former continues to not understand why millions will never bother with a PC, case in point:

Everyone knows this, but it is stated anyway every time the topic comes up, because of my point above.

Back in PS1 and PS2 days Sony consoles were just that dominant, that 3rd parties making exclusives made sense.
Sony generally didn't fund or pay for exclusivity. Also, porting was expensive.

In PS3 and PS4 era, Sony had stark competition from MS and Nintendo, and produced a lot of exclusives to force consumers to invest into their consoles.
In the PS5 era, Sony literally has no competition because: Xbox sold few consoles, and 3rd party games are miles ahead of Switch versions.

Didn't you get Until Dawn and Days Gone remasters? Enough with this complaining.
Also, nowadays games take an entire gen to develop, this way you are guaranteed quality.
Look at Concord, or the Haven studio. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not sarcastic and I dont think is some cicle reason either.. until proven the contrary for me the blame is the focus on gaas removing some studio assets into a failed strategy with now multiple cancelled games (bluepoint / ND / bend) are knowm examples of studios with cancelled gaas games. Plus the obvious lack of attention and emphasis on single player experiences leading to mismanagement of the SP studios projects. Ill add the hard DEI shift here as a reason also since forced DEI hiring practices are fucking up the industry for some time and sony is ballsdeep into it.
All in all a mix of bad strategies and mismanagement. Just like we condemned microsoft for it for many years.

I thought Sony was big on exclusives. but now even their new IP isn't exclusive?

what happened?

if Nintendo is the only console still doing exclusives I think we're going to see a bunch of the Switch 2 sell

They are in a position that they don't need to do shit. They have all the third party support, just announced a lot of games yesterday (Silent Hill f looks super good) and Microsoft lost the generation and probably the console. Now MS are releasing their games on PS5

The only thing PS5 doesn't have are Nintendo kids and not so kids games.

Those 3 are only reason i plan to get either ps5pr0 at the end of this gen or if ps6 is backwards compatible(very likely) then ps6.
I would just borrow it for a few weeks when those are the only interesting games for me.

Everything Sony does will eventually come to pc. The next Xbox is an Xbox branded oc.

Only Nintendo makes true exclusives anymore and even those get emulated on pc.

Bonus fact: one of the guys behind Bloodborne said it would get a remaster when hardware has progressed enough to make it worth while, so that will be coming in the long run,

Money talks, exclusives on any platform apart from Nintendo will be a thing of the past, and that's a good thing.

I like to own stuff, dont like gaming on a clock, did that back in the 90s' and early 2000s when i was teenager and couldnt afford a lot of stuff i really wanted, and srsly fk that shit, i wanna be able to play game for 12h, then put it back and revisit in a year :P

why should they when they have all the third party support and the other brand died in the hands on Phil? They even release their games on PS5 now. Except Nintendo kiddie games all is on PS5.

This is very short sighted IMHO, sony this gen is l cruising in the Ps4 success + a no show from MS .... so much they are easily winning with the worst first party studios output since forever and a failed gaas strategy.....but I think many ps5 users, specially the ones that already have a PC maybe questioning their purchase, looking at this 1 hour SOP whats the reason to owning a ps5 ? Absolutely none since almost all the games are day 1 PC and GOY will probably arrive at a later date.

right now this current sony is transforming PC into competition, something I didnt think of it in the pass... because they had tons of exclusive games only avaible on their system. Now they have very few real exclusives, even fewer great ones, and the horizon feels empty as hell, and all this games will eventually be on pc.. remember something with almost the same "strategy" ? I member. Few first party games, fewer great ones, none really exclusive because PC .. well they just went third party and their hardware business is close to no more. The difference? They own windows and trillions.

Pro will still be 600+ by the end of this gen. Those 3 games are very expensive then, but maybe you'll find more games than those 3 to make it worth it.

They're chasing money on PC and other platforms. It's only a matter of time before PlayStation exclusives show up on Xbox.

Bad decision on their part. Sony as a company has made catastrophic hardware decisions with their products (e.g., Vaio, Sony Ericsson, Camcorders, Bravia etc.), so I guess it was only a matter of time before they fucked up PlayStation.

If playing Sony games years later is good for you then I'm happy for you. But I like to be on the crest of the wave and play games when the hype is around them, not after a year and after being badly optimized for PC with Sony pc accounts and all that shit.

And there is no reason at all to release anything right now since MS is doing all that for them and releasing their games on PS5.

Yes, they made the gaas mistake, but that mistake was entirely solved by the competitors catalog being released on PS5.

If we were talking a lot of great games sure waiting would sux.. as I mentioned the quantity and quality of exclusives made ps systems a must .... but now ? waiting for 1 maybe 2 exclusives a year at most ( at the current stage) and how many really great ? Since their quality also took a dive with the later sequels.

I dont own a PC.. i have a ps5 and ps5pro... Im just saying IF things continues as they are, is impossible to not see the parallel with MS.

Consoles was always about exclusivity, sure the easy of use is fine, but what always matters is the games, nothing more. And right now Sony is lacking in this department imho, and this SOP as good as it were, just proves this.

Who cares about exclusives. The only one I bought was AstroBot the others I wait for PSplus. I'm here for Monster Hunter and From Software. And I don't know how anyone can be disappointed after the SoP and also having tomorrow the Summer Game Fest with way more PS5 games. There are plenty of new games coming out. And all the Xbox catalog as well.

Still it's quite shocking how scarce are the gameplay videos about Ghost of Yotei; isn't it supposed to launch this year? Hope doesn't means an imminent delay

Because they dont know if they ll win next generation. Regarding this gen, they won, so they have no need to go guns blazing now

They just announced a gameplay deep dive for next month. Probably more in line with the marketing campaign, it's supposed to be out in october.
