Remasters have nothing to do with you thinking this is the "worst new console generation ever." Remasters aren't holding developers back from creating new games. The resources being dedicated to remasters are incredibly small. It's like people's critical thinking skills decide to shut off when they see the word "remaster" in relation to current gen consoles. Good Lord.

It's because there is no BC. Last-gen taught them that they can have their cake and eat it too and instead of giving BC for free, they can piecemeal the games people actually want to play for a bunch of money.

On top of that, it's not exactly a new gen thing. Sony had remasters of Kilzone, God of War 1 and 2, two PSP GoW games, Jak, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus last generation.

Those were all collection. This gen has been entirely single games, at the same price. Except Metro. And Halo. Sony was great about putting out entire collections last gen

gow3 didn't have any dlcs. if it had dlcs, it would have been included here. so maybe the costumes.

God of War 1 and 2 are available to play on the PS4 through PS Now. Ascension also. I've played them, and they play incredibly well.

I am interested to play this series but I'll only play it if i can play GOW 1&2 as well, cant start from GOW III.

On top of that, it's not exactly a new gen thing. Sony had remasters of Kilzone, God of War 1 and 2, two PSP GoW games, Jak, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus last generation.

However, we did not see all those remasters until around 2010-2011 when they really boomed. That was 5 years into the generation, while right now we are only a little over a year for this new generation and remasters are already a trend.

I replayed the whole series a few years ago. Pretty good games, but not really the type I thought needed a remaster and certainly not for $40 for one game. Even if you're new to the series that's a pretty steep price. I thought the first one was by far the best FWIW.

Sleepy Dogs remaster was full price. So was Tomb Raider. There's been plenty of single remastered games that are $40 or more.

Halo MCC offered exceptional value but that is not the norm.

If they can't afford to fully develop AAA games on weaker machines what makes you think that beefier, more expensive to develop for hardware would fix their current output?

Because new gen games take a heck of a lot more time to develop, and remasters can help pad the existing library, while at the same time bring in money without the ultra high development costs.

I was starting to get annoyed with them, but I've since changed my tune. I hope that something like DMC DE does great so Capcom can use that money to fund something new.

This. I used to work at (a branch of) Roadrunner Records. Nickelback was one of the bands that, musically, nobody really cared about. But it sold well. That money financed a lot of other smaller releases.

isn't that the problem with remasters of PS3 exclusives? if you try and do a collection your trying to fit 2-3 blu-ray discs into one box.

Is that really so bad? Conversely, you can freaking install games to the hard drive. Can't it just be compressed enough and then take like 75GB on the hard drive?

For someone who never played GOW3 and doesnt have a PS3, $40 isn't exactly a rip off for an amazing game you never played. There's always renting though.

it's not all of it but it's a not-insignificant portion of why this is the worst new console generation ever.

first of all they are preventing new games being made (cf opiate's point about opportunity cost)

second of all, they are creatively lazy in the highest order, which is a symptom that many new generation games have had, and which remasters just reinforce.

Assets authored at higher resolution get a bump in resolution, newer shaders, higher output resolution, 60FPS, and we're done!
