Mario Party 10 |OT| - "We're just having four much fun!"

Played Amiibo mode with the family tonight. We had fun with it. We just out the Gamepad on the coffee table in front of us and each tapped out amiibos when we needed to. My son used Bowser, so we were playing against him with the mini games.

Girlfriend picked it up for us to play. They had an extra Mario amiibo pack-in copy at GameStop so we went with that. Is SMB Mario only available bundled besides Gold Mario? I haven't kept up with it since I've only been interested in the Smash line.

I'm enjoying the game. Definitely not the best but the mini-games are pretty fun. Bowser Party has potential but should've had more mini-games attached to it. I feel like I've already gone through all of them within two games. I also wiish there were more characters or boards to unlock with points. This will be fun every now and then when we have company. Feels a bit bare bones though. I'd hope for free DLC but I'm wondering if there will be DLC at all.

Really disappointed right now. Didn't realize each player needed a wiimote. Figured one could use the game pad. There are two of us and only one wiimote. Really don't want to buy another.
Yeah, I guess I should've read up on it more but we have enough wiimotes for two of us. We have friends flying in about two weeks so hopefully we'll grab at least one more soon. Need to check to see if any of them have wiimotes because then problem solved.

Edit: It seems Mario is a timed exclusive for the bundle.

So I started up this game tonight with my girlfriend (she is a big Mario Party fan) and she was pissed when it went straight to the start screen without a a story. At first I thought she was just joking but she really seemed beat up about it.

Tonight we played Amiibo Party and Mario Party. Amiibo party is ok but it could have been a lot better with just a little more effort. Mario Party was ok but the mini-games were lest frequent. It also feels like the character selection is a little lacking and the board selection/design leaves something to be desired. Most of the mini games are fun but can we get off the motion control bandwagon already?

Overall, I'm far from giving it a final grade, the game is fun but lacks in many places. I think in my heart I just want a Mario Party 64 HD remake.

Blisters on palms in HD?

Some of you guys are seeing things through rose-coloured glasses. Those early games were punitive, repetitive and slow.

This has to be one of the most reductive and annoying counters to an opinion.

I've played Mario Party 1 and 2 as recently as this past year--still a ton of fun. Perfect? No. But fun? In spades.

I'll still pick it up eventually because I like asymmetrical multiplayer and Bowser mode is just that. Though why they decided ten Bow games where enough is beyond me. Honestly only putting in five boards is too low a value. Had Amiibo mode not been tied to Amiibo it would have been an okay price.

Amiibo mode is also a missed opportunity as while it's nice to have the same board pattern for every Amiibo the board is just too small and without paths.

Kind of sad since this will certainly be the only Mario Party on the Wii U.

I do appreciate the variety of modes I MP10 and I plan to download Mario Party 2 off the Virtual Console anyway. I had two Classic Controllers and will get two Gamecube to Classic Controller adapters as well.

In Amiibo Party mode you can actually throw the dice by using the 'A' button on the game pad. The same to stop the roulette wheel menus. For tokens you still have to scan the Amiibo though.

I can't believe how much Amiibo Party sucks. Why does it require you to tap the amiibo and go back to the gamepad so often.

Is anyone playing this solo? How is it?

I can't believe in this day and age they didn't make this work online.

Agreed. I mean, if it's offline, at least give us more things to do. This is pretty bare bones.

Yeah, people will quit online if they are losing or get mad, but just replace them with a CPU and move on. Or at least give us the option to play mini-game only modes online.

Not having any online options at all with this is inexcusable.

Played it with friends yesterday and it was a blast. Bowser Party was the highlight despite him losing every time. Amiibo Party didn't go over quite as well. It was fun but we only had three amiibos which left one player at a disadvantage and needing the gamepad to roll dice wasn't all that popular. There is certainly some interesting strategy to be had with token selection though. Seems like a solid party game but the lack of content certainly puts it behind the other stuff on the system.

Just bought this today, I quite like the amiibo mode and having to touch them against the gamepad to roll the dice, feels like your at least interacting with them in a way :)

Only played an hour so far, but fun so far :)

Does anyone else have issues with loading?

It takes a while to get to Toad's Room from the Main Menu, and it takes some time between rounds in amiibo Party.

Other than that, the game is enjoyable. I'm liking the music, especially the SuperStar music ;D

This game looks like it can be improved with updates, DLC probably?

Yeah, loading is a bit slow. I noticed it even before buying it when watching some people play online.

I could definitely see it improved with some updates. I'd love for more characters and boards to be added. They'd win a lot of people over if they added a Classic mode for free but I wouldn't hold my breath, haha.

Amiibo mode is pretty disappointing, but I like everything else. There are some subtle downsides compared to MP9 like no Captain Events, but I still had a great time.

To clarify again for anyone, you can unlock all the boards with one Amiibo by finding tokens during gameplay that are saved permanently to that Amiibo, but it does penalize you if you play multiplayer without 4 Amiibos - the other players use cardboard cut-outs, and can't use 'Tokens', which are pretty much like Items. Seems pretty unfair to me.

If that were fixed and more interesting boards were there for Amiibo Party, I'd say it would be a pretty good mode.

The only 5 boards thing isn't too bad because the boards play pretty different between Bowser Party and Mario Party mode, so it's pretty much like 8 boards overall.

Did you know in Bowser Party, if someone is controlling Bowser, as he gets closer to the team, you can press "A", which causes Bowser to stop and roar.

Keep spamming "A" and you can annoy your enemies.

Yup. Interested to know how fun it will be this on single player. I skipped this one because honestly don't have anybody to play it ,_, So far the impressions seem to indicate that at least the new mini-games are really fun so that's nice.

It's as fun as any previous Mario Party games in single player, it depends on patient you are with CPUs really and how much you enjoy the game outside of crazy shenanigans with friends. I still have fun with it single player, but then I went into the game pretty optimistic and don't hate the car gameplay.

Does anyone know what the point of 'Bowser is angry' thing in Bowser Party is? Do the minigames get harder or something? I didn't notice anything.

do the normal players still have no taunt button

i've never played mario party 9 but the removal of the taunt button is the most egregious change i've heard about it

I think thats the thing that allows Bowser to pick the game himself if he manages to catch up to the players.

Has anyone else played the jewel dropping game in the special games? It's quite fun! Managed to rank up a score of 2000+ and now I cant beat it.

Had a good drunken time with this last night. I skipped 9 so seeing the car stuff is new to me. Still prefer the old way but this way definitely works better when you're inebriated.

Ended up saying fuck it and bought it for myself today. I know exactly what it is, but I haven't owned a Mario Party game since 8, and having one around is just good.

The Bowser mode is actually really rad, but it's a huge bummer that there's only like 10 mini games for it. And that it's weighed SO heavily in Bowser's favor. It's nearly impossible to beat him. We did beat him last night and it actually felt great, but I suspect the person playing Bowser might have given us a little wiggle room after seeing him win every game...

It's funny though because I'm sure I've seen some people say the opposite, that it's totally not in Bowser's favour. I've only played two games and it's gone both ways for each one, so it's hard to tell how balanced it is. It probably really comes down to the skill level of the Bowser player vs. the Mario team, hard to balance for that.

Traded in a lot of old games today and got this with the Mario amiibo included; seller even threw in Wii Party U for good measure. I haven't owned any Mario Party since 6, sorta excited to give both these games a go! (Even more so because I've heard Wii Party U is sorta similar to classic MP)

Weird. I'll be playing with a different group tonight, but it just seemed overwhelming in his favor. Especially the fact that he gets a boost to the end and you have to guess between 3 people for the star.

How does this game compare to Wii Party U? Are they even comparable at all? Just trying to weigh my decisions before I buy the "go to" party game at our apartment.

It's pretty fun to be Bowser and go all crazy on 4 CPUs.

But I'm sure that novelty will wear off eventually.

Also would like to reiterate that Bowser Party is the bomb, my brother and I had loads of fun playing that mode, it's really great. Especially when you stick the CPUs are easy and they do ridiculous things like use 1-3 dice with 3 bad spaces in front of them (or even use 1-3 dice at all in this mode since it's usually a bad idea)

Much more fun than Wii U Party easily. I would give it a 3/5 in terms of Mario Party games. Also yeah people have rose-tinted glasses with the original Mario Party. It is easily in the lower end.

I was all set to play but then discovered you need to use wii remotes, so instead I spent the afternoon charging batteries. Oh well. I was hoping to play with the gamepad.

What's the point in even having locked characters if you can unlock them all in half an hour?

Used to be getting the characters in Mario Party posed at least a bit of a challenge.

For those who have played both, what's better, this or Island Tour?

I stupidly had the urge to pick up a Mario Party today, and since I didn't have any Amiibo, and my Wii Controller are kind of old, I went with Island Tour.

Mario Party 10 isn't worse than Island Tour...right? Because I honestly feel like an idiot for buying Dice Simulator 2000. :/

Wow, does this game suck. Just played my first board (and first Mario Party game since 2) and I feel like they took Monopoly or The Game of Life and transformed it into Candyland. This feels truly like a baby game. I don't understand why everyone moves together, why they got rid of items and boos and toads, why are the damn mini games are so infrequent (seriously, I played 7 in the entire game. Why isn't it after every round anymore) and so on.

And the Amiibo board is just a square, no items, no ghosts, no nothing interesting. At least I get to play more mini games in this mode.

The bowser mode is fun and will probably be what I play from now on (but bowser in the main game? yawn).

Everyone was bored playing this. I don't know if I'll get them to play it again.

This and the fact that he doesn't lose a dice when he eliminates a player, even if it's potentially temporary, are the biggest issues I've seen with Bowser Party. Once a player is gone for a turn it makes it impossible to outpace him, leading to a minigame where he has less players to worry about giving them less of a chance to win.

I think CPUs may have something to do with it too--maybe it's just me, but it seems CPU controlled Team Mario has amazing luck with the dice

Just coming back from a party at some friends' house where we unwrapped Mario Party 10 and put it to good use. I'll be damned; the game was great fun. Seriously, we were laughing our asses off in a frequent basis. The minigames were pretty entertaining. Despite none of us having played a Mario Party since the Gamecube era, the car mechanic wasn't minded at all, we adapted quickly.

Bowser mode was loads of fun, so close to the ending goal and yet we got our asses kicked by Bowser at the last minute. Amiibo Mode, while not as good as the other two modes, still delivered the laughs...Albeit, having a Bowser amiibo in the game meant EVERY game was a Bowser game, which really drove home how few Bowser minigames are, having just played Bowser mode. (This paragraph brought to you by the word Bowser)

Yes, this game freaking took me by surprise in how fun it turned out to be. One of my friends said it best: "We've found a new addition to our party nights".

Having been a Mario Party fan since day one, it saddens me to see the state of the franchise now. It's become a cash cow.

Mario Party 10 is a dud.

Unfortunately, my plans had fallen on the wayside for me to play this game with my friends, as most of them had blown off my invite & had lied through their teeth, making nonsensical excuses for why they couldn't come.

At least one of my buds was happy to play Hyrule Warriors with me, as we were able to complete the first Adventure Map (we just need to get the remaining heart pieces).

Anyway, this is what had come into my mail, and in retrospect, I just see it as a waste of money. At least the soundtrack & mushroom plush toy are cool. :(

It's pretty similar to Island Tour in some ways, but Island Tour doesn't use the car style gameplay. I thought Island Tour was pretty fun, I don't see what's so hard about enjoying the quality minigames and crazy unlucky moments. I'd avoid 'Rocket Road' and 'Banzai Bill's Mad Mountain' personally, I think those two maps are duds. Keep in mind these games are more fun with people than CPUs?

Or hey, you know, some people find it's actually a fun game. It's not like a series that had annual sequels with little differentiation on N64 through Gamecube was ever not in part a 'cash cow'.

So I remembered I had a friend who owned like every game in the series, so I asked him about this one, and he went ahead and actually got it for our hang out yesterday. And it absolutely took over the day. Played 2 rounds of normal, like 5 rounds of Bowser Party, and one and a half games of Amiibo party (my one friend screwing around and making everyone else DK taught us quickly why the game doesn't normally allow you to play as multiples and forced us to reset). I do feel like, at least on the two boards we played (the starting map and the airships one), the main mode could've used a bit more oomph. Like, more choices in paths or events or at least a tad more frequent minigames. And it feels like it's way harder to tear someone out of a lead this time around. But still a lot of fun. The amiibo mode is... okay. Probably would've been more interesting if we all bothered using amiibos (which we could've done, but I was too lazy to grab them). Feels a bit unfair when only one player can use the tokens...

Bowser Party, though? Bowser Party is amazing! Of the boards, we hit the Bowser Castle board first and got curb stomped and ended up not going back there, but when we played the other 2 boards twice, it was surprisingly even and ended up a win and a loss on each, all close games. Seriously, if you can get five players and this mode it's a crapload of fun. The underwater board in particular was probably our favorite, with the way it allowed you to draw, and yet we realized that's kind of pointless since it's just a tossup between "trust the bowser guy, or don't", so we just started drawing whatever. Really wish they would've gone all in on this mode and just made the whole game focus this, since it's by far the best thing here despite being a little content starved.

Oh, and of all things, the little gem game in the bonus games makes fur a surprisingly neat two player mode. Definitely don't overlook that!

There's seemingly a photo mode. Anyone take shots yet?

Need some DK goodness. I think he's never looked better in any other game, including Tropical Freeze.

Oh, well those are the only two maps I played...that's good to know it does get better.

This is better than Island Tour, but that's not saying much. Overall, I think it's on par with 9, but the lack of boards and modes is extremely disappointing. There are worse ways to spend your money, but Mario Party 10 is by no means a good game.

Had a great time pregaming with my friends while playing this last night.

People who are complaining about the menus and the graphics are ridiculous, as I find most complaints for Mario Party games. I think the only legitimate complaints I could have is the mini-game count is lower than previous games, and there's only 10 mini-games for Bowser mode, which makes its replayability extremely limited.

Do you know what's even more ridiculous? Dismissing complaints as being "ridiculous" because you don't agree with them. I've played every game in the series extensively since 1999, and I can say for certain that Mario Party 10 is one of the weaker iterations, if not the weakest. However, Island Tour is so bad that I can't even remember the names of the boards, so that gets the nod from me. All of the flaws could be overlooked if this game actually had online play. Imagine being able to play with other GAF members.

It's nowhere near as good as Wii Party U. For me MP10 is really only an amazing amount of fun when you five players for Bowser otherwise it suffers and the game is for too bare bones and simplistic to really match Wii Party U.

I played this at a friend's place last night. The board game portion was ok, but the badminton mini game was so much fun. We ended up just playing that over and over.
