Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition trailer

Do we know yet how much this will cost in the states?

I'll preorder first day it goes up on Steam to give Capcom as much incentive as they need for more mainline, internally developed entries in the series.

My only qualm is that I really do want a well-reasoned explanation (in the internal logic of the universe) for Vergil's presence here. It always seemed to me like there was room to build him into the mythology of the game and engineer and return, but I have doubts that 2 cutscenes will do it. If they're going to flub his return, I'd almost rather they saved him for 5.

Well they just lost a sale because its digital only and I'm going to assume a lot of folks will probably be doing the same thing.

Oh, not this again. Giving me Ace Attorney De Ja Vu. So you would rather they not make any more in the series? Buying the game digital-only and surprising them with the results is the only way to possibly get physical releases in the future. They assume the series has a limited audience here so they don't want to risk a physical release. We, as an audience, have to prove them wrong in the only language these decision makers understand.

Holy shit, so hyped! And here I thought DMC3:SE Vergil was a bad ass.

Boxart would look better without Nero on it though.

It will be $40.

If the cutscene is canon then it most definitely is taking place before DMC3.

Huhbuhwha? But the events in game take place well after 3. You think the idea is that they will completely recontextualize the levels and bosses?

Also, do we have any precedents for a series releasing a remaster/se around E3 with the announcement of a new entry in the series?

They're gonna save a new look and fat story hooks for Vergil in DMC5. His appearance in SE won't take away from that--it'll only make his evolution that much more awesome.

This releases on the final day of E3...

You know what, I'm sure it's a coincidence. I am not going to get myself that hyped.

here let me help you ahead of time for when it happens

It's called a flashback. The cutscene might be canon but the game play isn't. It's similar to thr Vergil campaign in DMC3SE.

The precedence is DMC3SE released followed shortly after with DMC4's announcement at E3. It was probably a month difference.

And yea I already made the connection in the other thread that this game is lining up with E3. DMC5 incoming folks...

ALL ABOARD DAH FUCKING HYPE TRAIN!

Not this again. By buying it digitally all it does is tell them that they don't need to release it in retail because consumers will buy it anyway. I'm not going to risk giving them my money in hope they release a retail version. When they decide to release a retail release then I'll give them my money. Until then, screw them. If I can get a friend of mine to ship me an import copy from Japan, I will import it, if he can't guess I'll be passing this title up

KKKYYYYRRRIIIIEEEE
Eleison
:p

Seriously though, when I play this again I'm going to take a shot every time Nero screams "Kyrie"

I never liked DMC4, I always ranked DmC and DMC1 over it....but jesus lord, playable Trish and Lady, plus a fusion of DMC3 and DmC Vergil?

You had my attention Capcom, now you have a sale.

HYPED

So good.

At full 1080p and with that level of anti-aliasing tech used this game is going to have an insane image quality that will rival current gen games.

MT framework kicking ass and taking names in 2008 and still kicking ass and taking names in 2015.

It probably would only take a mid-tier PC and up to run this game at full HD at 120 fps if you have a 120hz monitor.

I was hoping Vergil would have a vagabond look now, since I'm assuming he's kind of just been wondering around, lurking in the shadows. And omg playable Lady! The hype was already real, now I'm just salivating.

This is mostly based on his DMC 3 design, true new design for Vergil will be on DMC 5

They will announce DMC 5 there and it will be coop starring Dante and the deuteragonist (and the main female character) of the franchise, Trish.

So now that I can watch the trailer with sound (not at work), Vergil in the trailer says "so they worship a demon as a god?"... So where would this line be in the game.... Maybe more to Vergil's campaign? (fingers crossed)..

who knows, its the exact same line Dante said when speaking with Lady, would not be surprised if it was there just because.

Vergil at least has two cinematics to his credit. Whatever they may showcase in those will likely be the most story he may get for right now.

Yah I know Dante says it, but who would Vergil be saying that to is my question... I don't think it's just teaser fuel..
edit: I guess he could be saying it to himself I suppose...

They just updated the Steam Announcement page and confirmed that Trish will be playable in Dante's sections and Lady will be playable in Nero's:

Trish – Resident badass since her first appearance in the first Devil May Cry’s opening cutscene, Trish does away with the need for weapon switching, instead utilizing the versatile Sparda sword, her pistols, and her bare hands in a variety of inventive ways. Trish allows players to fight with relatively few buttons, but is still quite a deep character with an awesome move set. Trish will be playable on Dante’s missions.

Lady – Playable for the first time, Lady specializes in long-range, firearm-based combat, making the game feel completely different. Her signature weapon, the Kalina Ann, features a grappling hook which allows her to traverse environments similarly to Nero, among other applications. Lady will be playable on Nero’s missions.

I know we were kind of assuming as much, but this is confirmation.

It was in the Capcom unity update earlier today, exciting stuff!

Why put that limitation? i mean its not like there is much difference, but still seems weird.

I think what it means is that they are not going to be retooling the campaign, and I guess Trish had no way to traverse the GrimGrip segments. I dunno. I don't really like it either. As long as both are in Bloody Palace, though, it's okay.

Hope they put a boss rush mode or at least selecting which boss your want to fight without needing to go through normal missions.

Eh, figured as much. Disappointing but understandable. At the end of the day, it's three new characters.

Should be fun to take on Dante as Lady, though.

I do hope there's more content than what was shown though, like heavily retooling campaign, extra weapons for Nero and Dante, Boss Rush mode, Gods must Die, and a couple extra boss fights.. If not I'd say I was expecting more content then we got (unless they reveal DMC5 at E3 then I'll be ok). Makes me wonder if that 2 week mo-cap session with Dan Southworth was for the DMC5 trailer/teaser at E3...

Ultimately was hoping for a short Vergil campaign, with new bosses... Hell DmC got a Vergil campaign with new levels and bosses..

I'm not much of a combat expert, and I'm kind of new to "character action" games, i did however love Bayonetta 2, and always wanted to get into the DMC games, but can I ask, if i should get the DmC: DE or wait for this, what game has the deeper combat system between DMC 4 and DmC?

both are great, but DMC 4 has more options, while DmC more streamlined controls.
I would say to go for both if you can, DmC DE fixes a lot of the games issues and if you don't like it there is DMC 4 around the corner.

DMC4 has the deeper combat system, but there's no reason not to get both DmC:DE and DMC4SE, considering the former is a top tier remaster, and DMC4SE looks to be the same.

DmC: DE is a good game, provided you use Hardcore/Turbo mode. DMC4 has the deeper combat system, but it won't be out until June, so if you're starved for an action game I would check out DE first then this.
