I've got a question about the outskirts:

When I first went through the forbidden woods, I was in a large, open wooded area that was filled with nothing but dogs and gun grunts. Where was this? I've been trying to find it again for hours...

That the entry thats to the left of the cathedral.

Boss strategy spoiler:
For the Father Gascoigne fight, there's an easy way to deal with his pre-transformation form if you have the axe. The standard attack+transformation combo (R1 then L1) pushes him back slightly when the second hit lands, cancelling his attack if he's preparing one. Even if you get hit after your first attack, you regain health when the second attack lands.

Now to get past the second form...

I think I screwed myself by finishing the game.... NG+ is too damn much. No I have to wait for people to lvl up so I can grind chalices with them.

Even the devs said they couldn't beat it :p

To the two werewolves that killed me 6 times, rot in hell!

No problem. :)

I think I beat them once and then got the shortcut... never again!

No!!! I placed my controller down and I ended up accidentally striking the guy in the wheelchair in Hunter's Dream! Am I screwed?

I hit the doll by accident once, didn't kill her just took a swing... everything is ok =)

Wait?! I'm so confused... when I go to the Data Storage settings, it says that Bloodborne is 8.27 out of 29.88 GB downloaded...

But when I go to my downloads, it shows both downloads as "installed". WHAT?????

Read Yoshi! Read! :P

The 5 gb is just the part of the game you have to get downloaded to start the game. Of course you can't start it anyway yet if you got the EU version.

The rest of the game downloads in the background.

Alfredo from Kinda Funny games accidently shot the old man when he was checking twitter, he just turned to dust and the chat went crazy haha

Don't worry he comes back lol

Do you have a starting origin/weapon planned out? I honestly didn't even know much of the specifics until I started. I went with military veteran with the vague idea of making a quality str/skill build. Skill scaling is crappy for the axe and kirkhammer, so I'm slightly wishing I went with a class more min/maxed toward strength but I know it doesn't matter.

I'm *slightly* concerned about the seeming lack of weapons/armor compared to Souls. I guess Demon's didn't have that many armor sets but Dark Souls had a shitton. Will I play through this game for a 30th time as an NPC weilding an obscure boss weapon? Time will tell. The gameplay is there, just not sure if there's the insane equipment variety that makes multiple Souls playthroughs feel different. The transforming weapons help. And of course I've barely scratched the surface.

I plan on taking the Violent Past origin alongside the Huntsman's Axe for my initial playthrough, so yeah, I'm pretty much going all-in for strength weapons. I think it'll be interesting to see how well the slow heavy-hitters perform in a game I assume to be dominated by more agile builds, but my first priority is PVE and I think the axe will provide excellent crowd control in its extended form.

The lack of weapons worried me a bit too, but after watching a few vids of just how extensive each weapon's moveset is I think I'll likely spend an entire playthrough just getting used to the nuances of a couple choice weapons with plenty left over for future playthroughs - and there's still arcane and bloodtinge-scaling weapons to consider. Maybe a viable build revolving around either one will reveal itself later in the game?

What I will say is that I'll be sincerely upset if armor/clothes selection is lacking. I'm a huge proponent of Fashionsouls and a big part of the fun of co-op/PVP is seeing how everyone's kitted their character. I'd be sad if it's like DA: Inquisition and everyone's just running around in a duster.

Went with Military History and the long range pistol, plus the cleaver. Worked well for me so far, but definitely need to make a plan now.

Beat the first boss and called it a night last night. First impressions: Wow, this is Dark Souls. Not sure what I was expecting, honestly. More like Demon's Souls but different? But if you approach the first area like the first area in Dark Souls, up to the first boss on the bridge there's a lot of similarities, which of course is really awesome.

I did get really lucky in that fight, pulling off something I hadn't seen mentioned (probably was somewhere)
but I hit the Cleric Beast in the head with a pistol shot and he kind of leaned forwards and I got to make a critical strike on him. Took off a large chunk of health.Without that I might not have won, the camera is awful in that fight.
I tried to summon for that fight, but no one showed. Kind of sucks you waste the Humanity (whatever) in that situation, but I assume I'll be stocking up on it quite a bit.

At first I thought my guy was too tall, is that something you can set, height? And also the FOV bothered me, but when you get to a bigger enemy it scales back and feels right. Probably just need to get used to it.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the whole thing, but as I'm writing this I'm getting really hyped to play more, read up on lore and fall down the rabbit hole all over again. Even with all its flaws DS2 was my GOTY last year, even double-dipping and finishing multiple times, and this art design and aesthetic is a hundred times more appealing.

I just
riposted his ass all the way. He can be parried in all forms super easily with the pistol. I killed him in one go.

HELP.

soooo. I bought the game from the US PSN, i'm from Europe and i still got a countdown timer. With every other game I can play when it unlocks in the US but it's not working with Bloodborne. Anyone knows something??

I spent 45 minutes creating my character last night.

Then I finally started a game.

And Got DESTROYED.

OMG - My reflexes are completely HORRIBLE! I need serious practice. I think my twitch-thumb accuracy/coordination from those old-school 1990s/early 2000s games have deteriorated considerably. My muscles have atrophied or something lol

Games over the past few years (aside from Soul's games) have made me so lazy. This game has you trying to juggle 4 or 5 buttons at once, all situational-based.

I played the DS: Prepare to Die game on my PC last summer, but even that felt easier than this game. In DS, you could hold up your shield and plan your attack. In THIS game, you have to "MOVE IT, MOVE IT" or DIE.

I feel like I need a target dummy or something to spar against to get more comfortable with the attacks and dodging.

Wow, I mean wow. What a game lol

I went with Military Veteran and picked the Phys/STR weapons to start with. I got REKT by the initial "trash" monsters out in the street. My biggest problem was the obstacles in the street blocking my ability to strafe and dodge. Environment awareness is HUGE in this game.

Options > Information on your US account. If it doesn't work probably you will have to download it again.

You struck Doll-chan?! You monster!

Oh thank god! I was listening to his speech when it happened.

Oh, you need to buy stuff to join other peoples worlds? That kinda sucks.

Is that the easiest way?

The PVP and co-cop bell only cost one insight each and once you have the co-op one you can help people beat bosses for more.

For ppl who don't like invasions, the bell searches for a chime before invading so PVP is opt in it seems. A bit disappointing for me personally but i can understand it.

So I've played about an hour of the game. Awesome game so far, but I'm confused but I few things. Do you get your "souls" back by killing the enemy that killed you? If so, are you just screwed if you adventured too far and fought a tough enemy? Also, I feel like my pistol is weak. What are the basic strategies to using the gun to your advantage?

played about an hour so far. Its a souls game for sure. If you didnt like DS1 or 2 you wont like this either.

Me? Its fuckin awesome :)

I bought the game yesterday for $100 from some guy. . . but today I'm going to sell the CE (that I bought from Best Buy for $67) and sell it for $134 on Amazon.. Dat profit.

One last question for now-

Again, feel like my blunderbuss fires too slow- is the pistol faster?

Is there anyway to switch to the pistol if so? Also, Im strength heavy, not sure if that affects anything

Question: since mine is obviously not going to be downloaded in time (8,45/29,88GB, going at 1mb every 45 seconds) - this will obviously fuck up my stream right?

Like, it's going to download the game while I'm streaming... surely lag will happen that normally wouldn't occur, right?

Two questions while I wait for my car to get repaired so I can pick this up:
1) Are there any masks in this game? The DS1 Boar Helm gave me much pleasure to wear.

2) Is going all 2her viable? I felt like this was very hard in DaS.

Demon's Souls then Dark Souls 1

So many of you guys are saying Demon's Souls..... Not at all what I would have expected, especially since so many people say that's the most obtuse of all the games. I'm trying to find the most accessible one, especially since I'm worried that I'm not a good enough gamer to finish one of these games. Is Demons really the best place for someone starting out, or is that your bias towards the series speaking?

I think I just don't like the Threaded Cane. Found the Saw Spear, and even upgraded less than my Threaded Cane - and seem to be doing better with it.

Got my ass kicked on CB a bunch using the cane, then switched to the SS - and got him on my second try, and got FG on my first try.

Dunno, this game is quickly growing on me and giving me that 'special feeling' that Demon's Souls had - but not even DKS1 could capture (despite being awesome). So creepy and tense in parts, loving it.

Bloodborne is the most accessible though.
