Universal acclaim!!

Still waiting on my Polygon review.

WE'RE IN THE FINALS BABY! YEAH!

Still tossing up Digital vs Physical. all my games so far have been digital - the ones I've kept. Might get this physical and return within 7 days and get digital, if I really like it.
With blood borne and a World Cup victory it could be the best month of the year mate :D.

I was reading the updated IGN review in progress, and about Vial stockpiles: "Unfortunately, you still have to go back to the Hunter’s Dream to automatically withdraw them from your stockpile, which seems like a design complication that could have been easily streamlined to avoid that toe-tapping loading screen."

Is it me or that is a blatant mass of bullshit hahaha? You don't even have to go back. WTF IGN hahaha.
Yeah, you automatically get vials and quicksilver bullets from storage upon dying without having to manually retrieve them. I guess the reviewer just missed that.

Unpopular opinion time.

I'm genuinely curious why Bloodborne is getting such high praise - a metacritic score on par with Dark Souls. While I love the Dark Souls series, and they are some of the best games I've played, it just feels the same. The core mechanics are the same and overall it's just more Dark Souls, very little has changed. It's similar to people praising Call of Duty every year when very little has changed and they haven't really done anything differently until Advanced Warfare came out where it brought in a nice change of pace.

I just think there is a double standard going on where other games are shit on if they don't reinvent themselves, while we have Bloodborne that has had minimal changes since Demon Souls came out. I know some people will argue against, and tell me, "BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, LIKE GUNS!" To an extent sure, but if you deny this is a Dark Souls-esque clone, you are sadly mistaken.

Regardless, I'm going to play this game because I love the Dark Souls games, but it's just been bugging me.

Even if it was almost literally a reskin of Dark Souls, it would be the first on the current gen consoles and the first for 3.5 years. I think that would almost deserve high review scores - it isn't a yearly release milking a franchise.

So the sum total here is the the game delivered in every meaningful metric except framerate? Sounds like a reasonable sacrifice to make to experience the glory.

Grats on one of the first big winners of the generation.

Oh boy, Joe isnt liking the game at all D:

I would not play this game with a twitch stream to begin with, cause now we have a lot of angry people in the stream yelling at each other and a frustrated joe and that's never good

Is that the guy who screams alot and always has a leather jacket? Saw a video of him with playing the tutorial of Dark Souls and 80 percent of the video was him running around the tutorial boss pretending (or just being really fucking blind) to not see the door he focused his camera on and ran past tons of times. All while going "OIAAHAUAAMAAAN WHAT AA HAARD GAMEE WOHAAAA".

Not trusting that guy with my life.

I really am bothered by the microstutter and fps dips in this game. Granted im only in the starting area right now so it could get better(?), but it's really horrible and makes me lose all sense of immersion.

Still waiting on my Polygon review.

Before it was known, I assumed it would be Phil Kollar of Polygon reviewing the game, he's a huge Souls fan. I asked him on Twitter a few weeks ago and he said it would be Michael McWhertor who is an even BIGGER Souls fan than he is.

I'd expect a very positive score.

Fantastic reviews for a fantastic game. I wish Sony spend all the The Order marketing dollars on this title instead. The Order deserves 0 sales, Bloodborne deserves 10M copies sold.

I never doubted From Software.

I think they each deserve 5 million! Okay, maybe 3 to 7, Bloodborne.

Why does it need to have a lot of perfect scores?

It doesn't, it was just a completely irrelevant, trivial observation on my part. Usually when a game is rated that highly, there are a surplus of 100s contributing to the overall score, but Bloodborne only has six of those.

I remember Joe tried out Dark Souls 2 and he couldn't get into it at all. He just doesn't have the patience necessary to play these types of games.

Eh, if you don't know you're supposed to escape that fight, it can be alarming. I didn't see that door at first either, because I was focused on the boss. I'm sure I ran by it several times before noticing it.

Then again, I'd already plat'd Demon's so I wasn't exactly freaking out, and I went on to plat Dark. But the point is, if someone thinks they need to kill that boss, their mind might gloss over stuff like escapes, since that's an atypical solution in modern gaming.

Not defending the specific guy in question, I have no idea who is is. Just pointing out it's easy to miss stuff like that.

Thinking of picking it up now due to the good reviews when originally wasn't. Hopefully I can find it at less than £40 pretty close to launch.

My prediction: polygon is waiting that all the other reviews are out in order to calculate a score that would less the metacritic score :)

Game deserves the scores, Last night I got upto and a little further than beating gascoigne before I called it a night. One of the very few games I've played recently that's got me itching to play some more.

I was only supposed to play about an hour yesterday lol but ended up doing 5, which tells the story itself.

It might not be for everyone but I'm convinced with souls games you need to give them a chance and grind through the first 5-6 hours (for new comers) until it clicks with you.

I remember buying DS1 on PS3, played half an hour attacked a NPC who then kept killing me. Thought fuck this and gave up a didn't play it again for about 3 years lol. By then DS2 came out which was a bit more user friendly and I put the effort in to grind through the first few hours and it justs clicked with me after taking down the 2/3rd boss. After that I went back to DS and absolutely loved it.

Eh, I'll be the first to say that Souls isn't for everyone, but I think as far as the tutorials go, they make it fairly obvious what you're supposed to do. In DkS1s case, the fact that all you have is a broken sword that does pitiful damage should be enough of a clue that you need to do something other than fighting. On top of that their is message on the ground that flat out tells you to run away.

I feel you. I learned the hard way to roll into barrels instead of attacking them. Funny enough, in bloodborne I rolled through a ton of barrels and ended up falling in a hole in the roof

? Don't you have the PS4 Bloodborne + FF Type 0 bundle like New Zealand? it's only $599 NZD here at lots of retailers. I just checked EBgames has a similar bundle over in Oz, $548 for the PS4 + Bloodborne and Dying Light or Farcry 4
Oh yeah, didn't think of checking eb. Hmm really, really tempting.

I'm surprised it got the scores it got considering the frame pacing and loading issues. A great game it may be but these are some of my pet peeves when it comes to console gaming. I hate it when my enjoyment is hampered by technical issues. I wish more reviews are more punishing when it comes to this particular standard.

.
I think I prefer Sony to keep it modest and realistic with the marketing and overall budget. As long as the Souls keep making a healthy and profitable 1-3 million sales, we soulsheads should be pretty safe. Dip below 1m and the series could disappear, make completely ridiculous numbers and the temptation to dumb it down to Oblivion will be a thing. Which would also kill the series, in a different way.
