Depends on the weapon you use. If it's E scaling in Skill, dumping points into it won't gain you much additional damage, whereas if it has an B scaling in Skill, it's worth your points.
 
Got my copy today and heard rattling inside of the case. Opened it up and to my horror, the disc had come loose and was bouncing around inside the case. Also part of the outer ring (the part that has divots for your fingers to lift up the disc) was cracked and had broken off.

Thankfully the disc is immaculate so I guess that's all that matters.

Ok I missed OT1 but spend some time last night playing... amazing!
I can not remember the last game where I was so tense, every mob encounter can end badly if I slack off just a little, the way you get better and better and the feeling of accomplishment when you take down an enemy who was giving you trouble or find a short cut. I am sure it has been mentioned a lot before but in a day and age where AAA is nothing but big arrows, tutorial and info popping all over the screen this is such a refreshing and fun experience.

+ The movement and speed and rethinking offensive projectile weapons as a block/parry mechanic. The risk reward of being more offensive.
+ The enemies and sounds are unnerving. Also how enemies can surprise with their lounges and sudden attacks.
+ I haven't felt this tense in seeing what is around the corner since playing the original dead space. Also the atmosphere and art direction is suburb.
+ This game also reminds me of RE4 (towns folk, village centre and torches) and the original Zelda (exploring and discovering things for yourself with very little guidance, an adventure).

- The frame pacing issue makes the game feel a lot more sluggish than it really is, hope this gets fixed as the game would feel glorious with out this issue.
- The obvious load times, though I use that as time to read gaf.

Looking forward to spending some more quality time with this game on the weekend... one more work day :)
 
Only played a couple so far but chalice dungeons are seeming like rearrangements of a fairly small title set. Might get old quicker than I thought.

What weapon are you using? If the Skill rating on your weapon is C or above then definitely start putting points in Skill.

Points in Endurance/Vit are good too... you can have up to 40 in Endurance.
 
HEEEELL YEAH! BSB Down on 2nd try! I was so nervous before and he wasn't that hard before! Rolling forward every time he attacks works wonders. So relieved!

I think we're all going to have to accept that there is no such thing as a first or second boss in this game, as there are a couple bosses (at least) that people will be encountering first. So that said, we'll probably have to mention boss names in spoiler tags for people to know which one we're talking about.

I assume you're talking about either
Cleric Beast or Gascoigne
- whichever one it is, the closest checkpoint is still the first lamp you light in Central Yarnham. You just have to unlock shortcuts for it to work.
 
Need advice if possible. Late game optional area spoilers.
Whats up with the weird creature in Altar of Despair. I can target it and the area its in looks like a boss room, but it didn't attack me. Not sure if I should fight it or if it has another purpose.

I'm not so sure because the Threaded Cane uses Skill Stats while the Kirkhammer uses Strength stats. However, I'm sure you can build a hybrid STR/SKL build and interchange between both. There's nothing stopping you there except for the fact that you might need to level a lot more to use both effectively.
 
I was kind of down on this game on day 1 because Gascione was wrecking my shit, but now that I've passed that hurdle this game is shaping up to be a straight up masterpiece. The level design is bananas and the atmosphere is off the chain. It's so rich in content and mystery. I know I've missed stuff and I feel like I'll still be discovering new events on subsequent playthroughs. I've been genuinely surprised multiple times and I think I'm still relatively early in the game (four bosses down).

Slight spoilers about awesome and surprising moments so far.

Some villager in the woods gave me a gem and told me to take it to a church to the right of the Cathedral. I go there, walk into a portal, and get taken to a lecture hall full of fucking terrifying monsters. I kill them all and then get taken to yet another area with even harder monster and a Bell Maiden. I leave because I'm out of vials and back in the Hunter's Dream I see there's a new headstone for these areas. Looks like there's plenty more where those came from.

Later, I unlock the door in the Chapel after killing BSB and notice I can go down to the bottom of the Healing Church Workshop if I do some platforming onto planks. After dying multiple times from failing to land on smaller and smaller wooden planks, I get to the bottom to see that the fucking DEVIL is chilling In the basement of the church. I kill him and head outside only to be kidnapped and taken to a mysterious prison. I run around like a frightened teenage girl while ominous music plays and find a tunnel that some other prisoners must have dug. I assume this is my path to freedom so I run through it only to be greeted by Darkneast Paarl. Jesus. He kills me so I try another route in which I find a badass set of armor and a lamp to take me out of there.

This game is fantastic.
 
This thread is moving to fast for conversation. I guess if I want to use the Kirkhammer I should start with an axe.

Not sure if I should spend the 40k echoes I have on leveling up or the blade of mercy.

I'm going with a quality build and I'm not even sure if I'll use them but I just want them for the hell of it. For those who have it, how is it?
 
There are some weird micro-stutter issues; I saw that 'framerate pacing' term being thrown around here, so I assume it's that. Really hope the patch will solve this since it's annoying.

And yeah, wished the loading screen was item descriptions instead of logo - I mean I know which game I'm playing. Besides, they have tons of arts to choose from.

Huh. So I just had something concerning happen.
Walked into the tomb area where you fight Father G, and Eileen the Crow died before I realized what was going on. Am I fucked?

One final question, for the end of the game;
Is there a point of no return, or like Demon's and Dark Souls it's made very clear moving forward at a certain point is the final confrontation? I want to try and at least see and fight everything in my first playthrough, and I'm rather stumped at missing shortcuts. I've apparently skipped at least two boss fights, missed an NPC, and a key item for said boss fight. I hope the time of day doesn't play a role into that, because I may be screwed. ):
 
Question about a boss:
Is the targetting on Logarius really this fucked up? I was almost killing him riposte after riposte, then I died. Ok, let's try again and now all of my fucking shots just go above him, I'm not aiming at the moon, god damn it. I died so many times trying to riposte him and my shots keep hiting the moon instead. FUCK
 
Man, new game + is disappointing, I cleared up to FatherG and nothing was different except scaled up monster hp/damage. I was hoping it would be like Dark Souls 2 where there were new super hard mobs added or something else to help make it fresh.

I know some of you guys are deeper into ng+ than i am, does anything actaully change besides scaling?

). Does anyone know how to make it open to GAFers?
 
Is the leveling cost tied to your overall level or the level of each stat? Given the way games like to ramp up I'm guessing overall level...
 
is there a good guide out for quality/performance of weapons and upgrades? I went to buy the official guide but apparently it's not out yet (wtf?)

just wondering if it's worth spending my blood stones on my bad ass hammer or not..

When you see the house on fire, don't go to the next boss unless you want to finish the game.
