Did anyone actually have trouble with the W
itch
boss?

Was that put in as...a joke?

I still managed to die here, lol. In the last phase it restrained me and the mobs got to me. Easiest boss so far though. But, every Souls game has a boss like this and I'd say this is the hardest one of those.

Very polished compared to Dark Souls' crappy gameplay.

Hmm. Gonna have to check out more videos.

It's pretty much a Souls game with combat being a bit faster paced. No shields or blocking, but you can equip firearms which can be used to parry.

Well, there is a shield in the game, but it's just there as a joke.

If you didn't like Dark Souls, you might not like this. But check out some gameplay videos. The setting is different, I know some people who didn't like the fantasy setting are loving this Victorian setting.

The setting is part of what's really grabbing my interest, that and the overall aesthetic. Combat being faster paced sounds like a good thing, part of what I didn't like about Dark Souls combat was how slow and unexciting it was. The few gameplay videos I've seen though still just look like typical Souls stuff though I'll check some more out. Hoping I can gamefly it before I bite the bullet and buy it due to the current hype surrounding it.

Did anyone else order the Nightmare Edition from Zavvi? Has it been dispatched?

Still waiting for mine to be sent, so, naturally I'm pissed that I haven't got to play it on the day of release.. Maybe tomorrow?

Raaahhhh!! I'm doing much better, now.

Blood-Starved Beast, Witch, Darkbeast and Ame all dead now. At the Forbidden Woods wrecking snakes at the moment.

I just got a rune from Cathedral Ward but can't find a way to use it. It seems like I need another tool?
Yes, you'll be able to equip runes later on!

I found this on Reddit; interesting hypothesis:

Is this your first Souls game?

I believe the mobile summoning sign is correct. I rang the bell at one point and moved to a whole new area and all the sudden someone joined me...I shot my little flair gun thing and I was still ringing the bell even though I started in a completely different "zone".

Is it obvious when I am able to equip a fourth rune slot? I don't know what that last square is for
Surprised there's not a stat attached to rune slots

This game's Drake Sword for bosses:
the Electric Mace thing (Tinotron brrbb whatever)
Completely chews through most of the "hard" bosses.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but which weapon is that one in the trailer? That scythe weapon? I might picking up this game soon, and want to know if I can rock that early on?

No way. I am 6 bosses in at around 30 hours and have a ton left.

I've only done these bosses:
Cleric, Gascoigne, Blood Starved Beast, and Vicar Amelia

As for NPC quests:
I've done almost all of Eileen The Crows questline until I can defeat some other boss and then come back to the grand cathedral for the final encounter. This questline is really interesting.

I came back after Nightfall to the first NPC who also gives you a Flamethrower if you talk to him after you defeat each boss. This time though, he gave me this weird tonsil stone thing which I had to take to the church to the right and behind the Grand Cathedral, down a cliff path guarded by two executioners and riflemen. I ran into the building, went to the door and was literally swallowed by the cosmos and picked up by a fucking GREAT OLD ONE named AMYGDALA, as the weird cthulhu spider spoke in a cutscene as I was dragged away and taken to someplace called the Lecture Hall which I exited, and stepped into a very dangerous place that is apparently the Nightmare Frontier. Somehow this college of weirdos and the frontier and the hunters and church are all related, the curse has something to do with these Old Ones/Great Ones.

This fucking game, I am losing my Lovecraft loving shit.

Also, it's probably taken me close to 40 hours if I reading my recorded playtimes right. I feel like I've barely scratched the content.

Guess I got lucky then. I got stunned by the magic but don't remember it doing a ton of damage. The soot monsters, which were screaming and bolting around outside, were brain dead in the fight.

She has a follow up attack where she grabs you and slowly cuts your throat open. Easy to avoid unless you're bound up.

I found this on Reddit; interesting hypothesis:

I noticed that too. Friend and I tried summoning each other and it didn't work until we moved.

Interestingly - we were standing in the same place both times but it worked in one spot and not another, so it seems that maybe summoning doesn't work in certain places.

Ah. So I haven't played a soul game before, any reason you wouldn't just use the same character for PVE and PVP?
Yep!

For PvP, there are different priorities than PvE. Specifically what weapon you're using. Often times, weapons that are adapted to PvP are usually not good in PvE.

YES FINALLY BEAT
VICAR AMELIA

Fight became much easier once I realized
attacking her arms/wrists and being hyper aggressive worked the best.

4740 damage combo on that wolf... god damn

Edit: Old Yharnam hype!

I'm also at around 40 hours and nowhere near done with the game. I would have like 10 hours less playtime if a couple of bosses weren't total brick walls for me. I can't fucking believe how long it took me to beat Blood Starved Beast. I should have just taken a break. When I did beat it, it was without any vials or antidotes...

Now I'm in Y
hargul
, and this place is some fucking acid nightmare. Amazing.

You should buy the fuck out of this game.

So, are there any differences between the different ritual altars? Do they have different difficulties or something, or are there just multiple ones so you can have multiple active dungeons?

Also, if you guys want a hint as to where to get the item that lets you
Teleport Dodge roll and backstep for 10-15 seconds for six Quick Silver bullets. It's the Old Hunter Bone, you find it in the abandoned Workshop which is a BITCH to get to but you have to go there for reasons around the time you open up the Vicar fight.

FORBIDDEN WOODS BOSS SPOILER
just walked into the area with the Shadows of Yharnam. Figured it was a boss area, but I didn't know for sure. Then these three motherfuckers pop up.

Any tips for the fight?

Can someone answer this for me...

When can I make a Chalice Dungeon? Do I have to get to a certain part of the story?

All you need is a Chalice. There are a few you can get from side areas, one of which is an "early" area. Basically, after you beat (boss name)
Papa G
you can get to an area that has one.

NG+ note #6: Crystal Lizards (or whatever they're called in this game) do not scale their loot.

Two days and still no progress, I've took short cuts, gone different ways and avoided unnecessary combat.

I'm known better games that have reviewed poorly for less or the same shit, this game does it deliberately, I don't know what to think.
At the moment I'm looking for redeeming qualities, I might return to it later but I'm done.

And before you say it, I keep getting gang up on by Mr Multi hit combo kill.
The village people are easy, the small dogs are easy, the birds are too easy and wolves are fine and so are the big guys,
but I get really far for just one of them to comes out of nowhere and decides to creep up on me from behind while I'm fighting and it's game over everytime, then it's a long loading screen and back to square one.
I've got loads of blood vails, I either don't need them or it's too late, resetting your Bloodpoints is a scummy move too.

NG+ note #2: Blood Vials cost 900 echoes when the game is fresh. If this "scales" like NG1, then they will cost approx. 1800 echoes each at the end of NG+.

On my NG+ I don't think they started at 900. I just beat
Rom
and now they cost 900. I think it has to do with your level.

Is there a reason to do the "root" of the first Chalice dungeon? From what I understand it's the pre-configured layout for it?

I already did one that I "made"...never looked into how these work. But I was impressed that there were unique mobs and a boss I didn't see in the game.

Bloodborne doesn't seem to suffer from Blue Smelter Demon syndrome.

I died once too. Got overwhelmed. I felt ahsamed lol

Combat is faster but is still Soulish. Don expect a DMC/NG stuff.

I discovered the messenger item. So fun in PvP. I loved Chameleon too!

OMG! Amazing!

Getting some uploading done atm. Went ahead and uploading my series with Amelia. Showcasing the trials and tribulations of how it went last night. I could get to Amelia oh so easily, loved the fights with the enemies and loved the blood shards. But the fight itself was beginning to wear me down .. until I had one of those 2:00am " Eureka!" moments

starts up about 3 fights in already.

Was getting pretty angry at this point and ALMOST said F it and quit

But instead applied what I had learned through previous battles and previous enemy encounters and decided to go toe to toe.

NG+ note #6: Crystal Lizards (or whatever they're called in this game) do not scale their loot.

Sounds like Demon's. Except there I'd go into NG+ just for another chance at the damn lizards. They don't seem nearly as important this time.

Yoshi, was it easy enough to get a weapon to +10? Possible to bring more than one weapon to +10 before NG+?

Parrying works well against the sword guy. Use the big tombstone to hide from the magic guy. Once they enter the second phase, kill them asap. They start doing some ridiculous shit if you take too long. They're stunned easy-ish, too. So you can usually snag candle guy and katana guy in the same combo, depending on your weapon.
