Bloodborne |OT2| Praise The Moon

The gunner on the tower was an asshole as well. I died to him at least four or five times, before he suicided and fell off the tower. Fortunately, his loot landed on the platform below, so I was able to grab it. What a dick he was.

Finally unbanned, and the first post back is in this thread!

Praise the moon indeed.

This game is what I've been expecting since Demon's Souls. It's fresh enough with already knowing how the Souls series works to keep me on my toes and keep being impressed from area to area. The changes to gameplay are great!

I do however:

Hate loading screens
Hate lack of lore on loading screens
Hate not being able to compare gear when purchasing
Wish we had a picture of the areas you can teleport to from Hunter's Dream next to its name.

Overall even with these complaints though it's definitely the successor to one of my favorite games of all time, and depending on how it ends, etc it could topple it. The enemy design in this is through the roof thus far!

Hey I have a few mechanics questions (just got the game)

Where are the invincibility frames? Dodges and rolls? If so is it more towards the beginning, mid, or end of the animations?

Is there a way to do a perfect parry as in you take no damage? I've managed to do it a few times but a lot of the times I seem to take damage.

Is there a better gun for parrying?

Are there any more little advanced mechanics like that in this game?

Oh boy, I think I just messed up my game.

I just killed
Iosefka, and now I understand that she was the one behind the door who was giving me items.

What now? Did I lost something important that she could gave me after some time? After 20 hours in, I don't think I want to start over from the scratch.

Help me!!!!!

Well, I beat the game! Don't think I made a very good decision at the end...

Overall I think it was amazing. It's too soon to make a full assessment but in terms of a first impression it feels to me as good as dark souls 1. It's is certainly not without faults but the atmosphere through pretty much the whole game was just incredible.

Playtime was 38 hours. I did a lot of exploring and backtracking to try do side quests and find secrets. I messed some stuff up but I'm pretty sure I saw all the bosses and areas. Found the difficulty about the same as the other games, as in I died quite a lot haha!

I will do a proper write up of my thoughts on the game later.

Saved chalice dungeons and pvp for my second character which starts right now!

Edit: Welp, turns out I missed something big near the end.
Secret final boss
. Next time...

Beat it just now too--did the same thing as you.

Starting a new character as we speak and going Skill/Arcane.

Not that I'm aware of. No worries.

Umm. Did you see what else was in that building? Haha

Oh... my... gosh

This game is beyond fantastic! I beat Cleric beast on my first try, and had Gasciogne all the way down to just a sliver (couldn't even see the bar anymore - first try!) of health... and then he stun-locked me in a rampage.

And I did it all on my friend's account when we were screwing around after a hangover.

Time to do it all again at Home after this roadtrip!

FATHER IS DOWN. YES. Man, this game feels so rewarding.

Didn't have any urns, so I had to do it the old fashioned way of parrying and then doing one of those visceral attacks. Onwards!

Btw what do you guys think about starting a new spoiler thread, so those of us that have beat the game can discuss it openly without it being a big mess of black bars?

Hey, after i beat
Blood-starved beast
, was I supposed to
die and get thrown into a prison
? Because that seemed weird to me.

Edit: should probably give context. Third boss

Would you say that the quality is maintained this time around? That was my only issue with DS1.

Done with S
hadow of Yharnam
on the third try. Fight was so fucking tense my whole body tingles. And those snakes man am I glad I'm done with this forest.

Hopefully the next zone will be a peacefu-OH WTF
HUGE MONSTER FLY
!

undead giant in the challice dungeon is annoying the hell out of me with it's insane reach and the fact that if I close the distance that I need to make up after avoiding his attacks he launches another one straight away, ugh. can't summon either since summoning isn't working for me and to make things worse my +10 sword only takes off like 1/100 of his HP every attack

I just beat her

Seriously just go fucking ham on her legs and so the let up

That's the only thing that worked

All the tips I read are stay behind and smash her legs but she has this combo where she sweeps me and crushes me and it kills me in one.

Also, does she have two types of staggered? One where she's susceptible to visceral attacks and one where she isn't?

Eileen the Crow quest
So she finally spawned in Tomb of Oedon fighting the dude; curious how hard she is to defeat. I'm worried she may disappear completely from my game (considering we don't know if her questline is bugged). Really want the Blade of Mercy and her set. Thinking of just killing her now that I'm standing next to hoer.

Anyone have any tips for Cleric Beast? I think the trick with it was to get better at countering with your side-arm. I started off really well but I think I freaked out once it landed a few hits in. The field is pretty narrow but I'm wondering if rolling past it and whacking its back is a good strategy too.

(Yes, I know I'm miles behind everyone =P. I never have much TV time during the weekdays but I finally had a good run this morning and made some progress.)

Help with the Forbidden Woods please:

I've just got to near where the Shadow of Yharnam fight is. I've unlocked what looks like a shortcut elevator. This takes me near to where the dude firing the canon is. Is this the shortcut? It doesn't really full like much of a shortcut so I feel like I'm missing something. Is there any easier way to get from the Forbidden Woods lamp to the boss fight?

edit - nevermind, I was being dumb!

What's the issue? Use the big tombstone there as blocking for the fireball fucker. And parry to your hearts content. I killed the guy whose weapon wasn't on fire first, then the next guy, then finally the spellcaster.

Yeah, I'm having a hell of a time parrying them, it appears I'm always too soon or something.

Is anyone doing an arcane build? I'm thinking of making a second character with strength/arcane but I read that adding elemental damage to a weapon makes it no longer scale to anything except arcane. I'm thinking of having the Kirkhammer as my strength weapon and the Holy Blade as my arcane (fire) weapon. Is the Flamesprayer any good with high arcane? I have no idea what kind of sidearm to use.

Finally killed gatling and the hunter in old yharnam. Opened both shortcuts so time to take on the boss.

Are the stake driver or stake spear good to use?

So I know it's set up and really obvious, but I love how (big lore spoilers)
fucked up it is that all the cathedrals are for weird squid monsters and God knows what else. Just found out Oedin is apparently a formless blood vampire. I guess that means he's not the spider on the side of the building then.

Stay up close, right behind him. If he gets distance and jumps up in the air, wait a second then start dodging and get right back behind him again. I stuck to his ass and R2 him down pretty quick.

Will just spoiler all this just in case
Don't say directly behind, stay next to one of the legs. You get a better view of her arms so you can read her attacks and you're out of the way of her jump back. But once you're in position, just keep hitting her.

The different types of stagger are because you can fuck her limbs up which stops her for a few seconds and allows some free attacks but you can stagger her fully which means she puts her head towards the floor so you can visceral attack her.
