maybe i'm just playing these games completely wrongly

i'm hanging back trying to evade father g's attacks

but i always get caught on a swipe, knocked into some tombstones, trapped by the camera, and then he follows up and just eviscerates me

i really, really want to enjoy these games, but i just find them in a trial of absolute, 100% tedium and frustration :/ :/ :/ :/

I suck at parrying so I only do it on certain things where it's extremely easy (like those giant grey things with the brick/club). With that in mind, what I did for Father G was
use the tombstones as a barrier to shield you from his gunshots and just chip away at him through the tombstones until he changes to beast form. Once he is in beast form, let him break a set of tombstones so you have a place to dodge. At this point, STAY NEAR HIM and he almost exclusively does a swipe and kick combo followed up by a roar; dodge twice to dodge the swipe and kick and during the roar you get a good 3-4 uninterrupted seconds to just beat his ass. Just do this until he dies. He is extremely easy once you notice this pattern.

I cannot for the life of me kill the first boss in the first chalice dungeon
at this point it should be well within my ability but im just fucking useless

Don't worry though she is back alive the next time you return to the hunters dream. I could also inspect her dead body on the ground and still channel my blood echoes ha.

:(

Miyazaki has gone soft.

Well same as Demon's Souls I guess.
Wait... is the Emerald Herald the only level up character that doesn't revive when killed? Dark Souls 2 redeemed!

I overleveled by accident, and the fight with TOR was laughably easy. As was the fight with Ama. Silly me. :(

ML, on the other hand, was a real challenge.

I think I'm nearly done, sadly.

So... Chalice Dungeons. Haven't put much thought into that part of the game. Does it scale in anyway or what's the prefered levelrange for say... the first one?

Not really, no. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but if you find the game overly punishing and very frustrating, then you might simply be lacking the mindset, patience and/or skills to be able to derive some enjoyment out of it.

With that said, I'd probably still recommend you to try and push ahead, because the beginning parts of every Souls game usually lead to frustration. The game may suddenly "click" as soon as you manage to overcome an annoying boss or two.

i don't find it particularly 'punishing', just boring. the punishment is that you have to replay the section over and over again. that's not 'punishment', per se. it's just tedious.

perhaps i lack the patience? i've played games like ninja gaiden 2, and enjoyed them a great deal, but i find bloodborne to be mechanically just baffling. i just can't seem to wrap my head around what i'm supposed to be doing in these games. i get caught in endless stun loops, trapped on scenery, and killed by basic mobs over and over and over again. in all three souls games that i've played (demons, dark, and bb).

i really want to enjoy this game because i think the setting is wonderful. but this game is putting me into a state of extreme frustration and lack of enjoyment.

If it's pissing you off that much, don't play it.

Trade it in for something you will enjoy. It's just a video game. You aren't missing out on some amazing life experience by skipping it.

am i supposed to find the experience of playing souls games about 90% boring/frustrating, 10% enjoyable?

Maybe it's not for you. No problem. But souls game have usually a point where it clicks when you stick with it. Try a bit more, maybe look up some videos if you are stuck on a boss or summon help. Many players like helping with bosses.

it gets better
I was the same as you for the first two bosses but once I managed to work my way around and level up a little my enjoyment went up a lot
get into coop, its a lot more fun

people hate
forbiden woods
but I actually liked them :/

this zone tho, it truly is my izalith (actually I didnt even mind izalith that much in dark souls compared to most people), and im about to hit a youtube walkthrough just to see where the maidens are, I just cant be arsed with it lol

It took me 2 years to finish Dark Souls 1, 2 YEARS. Most of that was

Play for 2-3 hours
Quit for 2 months
Play for 2-3 hours
Quit for 2 months
Get slightly better and play for 5-6 hours
Make it to Sen's Fortress
Quit for 6 months
Dark Souls 2 gets announced and I get determined and stay patient
Mechanics finally clicked
Dark Souls 1 finished.

Dark Souls 2 took me about 3 weeks

Demons Souls done in 18 hours.

Now I'm thoroughly addicted to the mechanics and art direction.

On a negative note..boy M
icolash
was a disappointing boss, the idea was cool and all, but when it came down to the actual fight
the marionettes were easily killed and Micolash himself was pretty much a weaker version of the Clinic Doctor.

Huge souls fan but man that father boss was a mega struggle for me

I genuinely thought I may not do it lol and all my friends who are new to this game beat it before me

getting used to the new play style has taken me forever but it finally clicked and it feels soo good

Don't give up the click moment is real and worth it

yeah but that's the whole point, according to the fans you really are, and i'd like to see why so many people swear this is the best game series of all time

Death Dealers
are by far and away the most frustrating enemy to fight at this point. I'm four bosses in and while I can take one, more than any other enemy it's a gamble if I'll actually beat it. Their mix of slow sluggish movement then sudden hyperactive attack flurries is a pain in the arse.

Which ones are these? Is it the sack carriers? If so, I agree to an extent that they're annoying as shit. I can't seem to time any of their attacks, and they're hard-hitting as hell.

I still dislike the snake-head Ganados much more, ugh.

Do people really hate that area? It's one of my favourites; great atmosphere and sprawling design.

I hate snakes.
Jesus fucking christ, I slaughter everyone of them in that area.
Nightmare fuel because that is how snakes are born too, bunched up into a ball from the spawn of Satan.

It feels so good when you see their beady little eyes become even more lifeless.

They are the easiest mob in the game.
They stagger from 2h attack.
If you don't have a nice 2h that can reach far, yeah, you are screwed.
Holy Blade 2h charged attack+2h overhead+2h charged attack combo will kill them in one smooth animation.

well its the layout and how long it is. both true, but I enjoyed it

OH SHIT theres actually a second lantern here? thats the first time in a zone in bloodborne isnt it? thats how FUCKED this zone is, even miyazaki knew it :p

rofl
I just died as I was getting summoned, so I was teleported to their world only to immediately die and get sent back

also a question regarding the clinic or chapel
so I sent the old lady to the chapel and she appeared fine, spoke to the son that gives me the music box and sent him to the chapel as well but hes not appeared yet? does he not go?
also are there any other people in that part of the world to send?

Oh yeah, definitely.

But it so damn satisfying to parry one and kill it!

Long form Axe R2 charge is good too as it allows you to keep some distance while also knocking them down.

Holy shit! Just beat
Vicar Amelia
on my first attempt! This is after being stuck on the
Blood Starved Beast
for most of the day, feeling like a real chump.

Jesus, what a battle. I used up all of my molotovs and vials, with only a slither of health left. This is what these games are all about!

Pretty sad that I had to do some quick runs through the first area of Central Yharnam to get echoes to buy blood vials LOL. Far out I am terrible.

Was one enemy away from the free Hunter set and I went derp mode and died to him. Sigh. Try again tomorrow night I guess.

i can give you all a concrete example

on the way to father g, those two werewolfing kind of things

i get klled by the one with the spear so much, i try and dodge/evade it but i always get caught by it and it kills you in like three hits

i would say maybe 1/3 of the times i go to that boss, that one guy kills me

am i supposed to be struggling this much with this game?

Yeah, that part you're at now was a real kick in the nuts for me. Spent far too long getting rekt by trash mobs

Woop woop, 7th boss R
om
was a piece of cake. I've loved all the bosses so far, they're so much more creative and fun to fight (not to mention frightening) than the ones in Dark Souls 2.
