Does Shovel Knight have much popularity/recognition in Japan?

He would be my first pick if they included an indie game character.

Agreed, it's pretty perfect. And I anticipate that Pokémon like Greninja will continue to be in Smash.

But I can't help but feel like just one thing is missing. I dunno, maybe that's just my inner Pokemaniac coming out. I really do think one more Pokémon would be great. Not that I think it'll happen with Smash 4 DLC, but a gen 2, 3, or 5 rep would be awesome just for the sake of having even more Pokémon variety.

I imagine that if the regular development cycles of Pokémon and Smash continue, then we're getting even numbered new gen reps from now on?

It honestly depends on whatever is the new or upcoming generation at the time of the next Smash game. If it's Gen 7 then so be it.

Yeah, I've just noticed that it happened to have been the even numbered ones the past couple games. If this DLC thing makes Smash 5 come out later than usual, or new Pokémon gems have different lifespans, then I know the representation will adjust accordingly.

I thought that as well, she should've been added considering she was going to be in Brawl. But because of this, I'd rather have K Rool and this might be the only chance for him to come back from hiatus and if he did get in, he would star as the villain in the new DK game.
 
Sakurai already designed a Dixie Kong moveset for Brawl, and she recently appeared in Tropical Freeze, so I have to imagine she's near the top of the list for prospective newcomer DLC. And then there's Spainkiller, whose source claims to have seen a "moving model" of Dixie Kong.
 
I don't know why you guys keep believing in Spainkiller. We know that unlocking characters by linking both versions of the game is BS, and there would be zero reason to develop Ridley as a character if he is already a stage hazard. Plus his alleged source is a person working on the European localization of the game, who would have happened to see playable versions of those fighters that far in advance.

Right? There is literally zero evidence to suggest that Spainkiller was telling the truth. He claimed that his friend saw "moving models" of Dixie, Ridley, Chorus Men and Mewtwo, yet development of Mewtwo didn't begin until after the game was released.
 
I'm kinda cautiously optimistic for Chorus Kids. I definitely get that Sakurai wanted to include RH content in Smash 4, so I'm hoping he'll be able to get them in as DLC. Especially if it means a RH stage and music.

Yeah, with all he promtion last year and with it being in several GOTY lists (#4 on mine only Smash and Dangan Ronpa 1 & 2 beat it) Shovel Knight is most certainly the most popular third party pick aside from Snake. Maybe even including Snake. Top tier game, fits right in, already has a moveset, while not all that likely, I wouldn't be shocked if he gets in. As Nintendo runs out've top choices for Smash I think they'll look more into third parties that fit. I mean realistically atm I see only nine new first pary choices being likely in Smash 5 if they aren't DLC which are: Inklings, Paper Mario, Toad/Captain Toad, Ridley (tho probably not ever lol) a third DK rep, Chorus Kids, Retro game/hardware character, and a new FE/Pokemon character that doesn't exist yet. Thats alot and of course theres new franchises that may come that don't exist yet like whats happened with Smash 4, but realistically Nintendo are only going to add their most popular stuff outside of clones and a retro character (RIP Code Name Steam) so I could see a future where they look more into third parties and honestly, Shovel Knight is pretty high up there on the list of possibilies despite having one game and beng new. Especially since Konami going crazy lately kills a whole bunch of character chances all at once.

And I think a couple communities (like GAF) are underestimating Roy and Pichu, because they seem to be getting attention on a lot of places. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Yep. Rather have newcomers but if they can, all veterans should come back. I would love for Pichu to come back honestly. Pichu is one of my favorites, tho in terms of Pikachu clones Emolga is the best.
 
I voted for Tingle!

Tingle made his debut in Majora's Mask, and his since become a fixture in the Zelda series as well spinning off into his own set of games. He has a unique look, unique personality, and has the ability to play uniquely based upon his giant balloons, love of rupees, koolah-limpah magic, Tingle Tuner, Tingle Bomb, etc. A final smash could include him bringing in some of his bodyguards from Rosy Rupeeland. Alternate costumes could be Knuckle, Ankle, David Jr., his human form, and a colorscheme based on Pinkle.

My friend I mentioned is a really good artist too so I could ask him to help since he has the better art tools.

The linking up was just speculation. You sound like the guy who saw conductor Link and immediately wrote off Toon Link as a returning veteran. The Pac Man ghosts are attacks within a playable character, a stage hazard and an assist trophy. Donkey Kong is playable and pixelated hazard. Those don't count right? Duck Hunt is playable and an environment obstacle. I don't claim Spain Killer was right, I do believe him but your reasoning is flawed.

Oh and about Mewtwo, there is no way Mewtwo only started after release. Sure he didn't make the deadline but that was as much PR damage control as Mewtwo being "test" for future DLC.

You are doing far too much damage control for a rumor we have never seen corroborated. Sakurai has outright stated that Ridley being a playable fighter would not be true to the character due to size problems. I also strongly doubt that Spainkiller's source could mistake Pyrosphere Ridley for a playable character.

Do we know when exactly did Smash Wii U go gold? Video games are usually finished weeks before release. Development on Mewtwo probably started during that time. It's the reason why a lot of companies are able to do DLC close to release.

Not that I don't agree, but I think Spainkiller confirmed his source actually did mistake Ridley for a playable character.

Sakurai said the same things about Pac Man, Mii's and the Villager. Even in the span of a few months he can change his mind.

Also I hardly believe Ridley was ever worked on as an actual fighter, even with all the moves and animations of boss Ridley. SpainKiller did come back and say the Ridley his source saw was the Ridley we got, only he assumed it was a fighter. Oh and that it was on 3DS. Ridley's data is on the 3DS so I'm not so cynical about the whole thing.

None of it holds water for me, claiming his source was mistaken on Ridley seems like blatant backpedaling. If there are two more original DLC characters then why bother making a poll and asking Smash fans who should be fighters? Even the argument that they could have been cut seems implausible since there wouldn't be much of a way to ever verify if it was true or false, so I could claim Waluigi was in development but cut which would be difficult to disprove.

There's too many contradictions and inconsistencies for me to even entertain this, so if Ridley, Dixie, and Chorus Kids make it in as DLC without poll influence then you guys are free to give me hell.

Edit: Ignore the " if Ridley is DLC" part then since Spainkiller's source said he saw Pyrosphere Ridley rather than DLC playable Ridley.

Okay, Spainkiller didn't even mention Lucas as Downloadable Character, so therefore he might be wrong. His source is more likely to got their source from 4chan. I know that 4chan actually leaked Dixie Kong, Ridley, Chorus Kids and Mewtwo way before SpainKiller ever mentioned it.

There have been more Kickstarter horror stories than successes, but Shovel Knight is one of the best. I would love to see how Sakurai's team can translate Shovel Knight's abilities into a rock-solid moveset for Smash Bros. Heck, some remixes from the game would be sweet, as well.

I will say if someone leaked Ridley's movements and stock icon I guarantee you people would have gotten a little excited about him being playable. He has animations for almost everything, he falls down, he has ledge hanging, ledge attacks, normals and specials. Even with his size I could see someone thinking that was it, Ridley did make it and his gimmick is he is big.

As far as left over data, this game has been nothing like Brawl. With all the mining that has been done the only thing we found was the ice climbers crowd chant and we know for a fact they were in the game playable on some level. Then you have the Rhythm Heaven icon that was found but with almost nothing else. I still feel Gematsu had some info and it is plain as day that the data was cleaned up big time before release. The biggest things found were all the DLC and eShop type icons telling us clearly that DLC was being planned beyond Mewtwo.

I'll say it again, saying that they were not working on DLC before the game was released was just damage control. Though not a character, we already know they were working on tournament mode and the Miiverse stage long before the release. It's the same basic "lie" as Mewtwo was created as a test before doing more DLC. Mewtwo isn't even released and already we have micro transactions for costumes.

I've written of Ridley a long time ago, though I still do push for him being developed later. As far as Dixie and the Chorus Kids I bet they were worked on a long time ago and are still on the way.

Haha, I hate Blaziken. He looks stupid, and he'd just be a Captain Falcon clone in Smash Bros., but he's easily the most popular and merchandised starter outside of the first generation.
 
I think part of Sceptile's popularity outside of being a fully evolved Grass type is that not only does he represent the 3rd Gen (which is currently unrepresented in Smash), but he'd also sort of advertise Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. His Final Smash would very likely be Mega Sceptile, or if they didn't want to give yet another Pokemon a Final Smash, they could give him Hyper Beam...Sceptile could learn Hyper Beam right? Maybe Solarbeam then.

you could argue that Greninja got in to promote X/Y & sakurai wanted a pokemon from the latest gen. can't say the same about Blazekin. his game has been out, plus not for nothing, he's not that unique. If they'd go with another fire start gen 6 would be their best bet. a fire magician... right there that already sounds more interesting than a fire type fighter... like we already got that box checked off

Basically Wonder Red (and other characters) supporters have been cited wrong information to get some supports from other people after all. I'm not surprised. Like I said, everyone should vote for their favorite characters because it should be for fun instead of following what other people telling them what to do with their votes.

I don't know what to tell you. Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard, and Blaziken are the only starters with a Mega Evolution in X/Y. X/Y even launched with a Torchic with Blazikenite event. From what I can see, there are also far more figures/dolls of the Blaziken line than the other non-gen one starters. Blaziken's popularity seems to be fairly well documented on the Internet, and it's a really weird thing to object to.

I actually believe Lucas was a very, very late addition, probably from the backlash at release of not having him in, but also the incredibly positive reception of Mewtwo.

Sakurai was afraid people would perceive that he cut characters just for DLC, but after seeing people get excited for Mewtwo and people not really thinking that (since it seems that's not true at all), so he decided to add Lucas too.

Mewtwo was an experiment to see the perception of DLC. The reception for Mewtwo was very good, so they worked on another character.

I'm fine with people voting for Wonder Red but I'm somewhat annoyed with people who kept pushing their agency on us with Wonder Red.

Heck, I want Wonder Red in the game but with 3DS limitation, so I don't think Wonder Red will ever reach to it's full potential depend on what Sakurai is planning for their movesets.

Best to ignore them :P I'm just voting for whoever I want. If my favorite characters don't make it I won't even be mad because there are so many great characters out there for Smash.
