What do you Think Bloodborne's Sales mean for Sony/From/Souls going Forward

Both parties should be happy with how Bloodborne turned out so I'd expect the next Miyazaki game is another PS4 exclusive.

I'd like another spiritual souls successor but with different themes and setting, the way bloodborne was. But I'll play whatever that guy puts out, He's a genius

Medieval > Victorian. Gimme a Demon's Souls II or Dark Souls III over Bloodborne II.

Or try a new setting, like Sengoku Japan or Crusades-era Jerusalem.

Aside from DLC, I think the future Borne game will have 4-5 year dev cycle. Sony still has other interests to look into, mainly their first party studios and they have a lot of padding from the indie devs. This is good for me, as it wouldn't make the series feel tiresome. Bamco will keep releasing Souls game; I almost expect them to announce one for E3 on the heels of Dark Souls 2:Scholar of the First Sin.

And yes, Sony/Kadokawa will continue to collaborate as they had in the past.

They can utilize a console more fully? If they were not payed for by the platform holders they would not exist? Variety is the spice of life?

As a gamer we are getting games that otherwise we wouldn't. They aren't taking games from the masses. Would Bayo 2 be a thing if it were not exclusive? No. Would Phantom Dust? Hell no, Would BloodBorne? Again, no.

As a gamer we should be happy 3rd party exclusives do happen because we get games, and a real gamer would just go play those games that interest them on whatever platform they come out.

Edit: before someone comes in and says I am for moneyhatting there is a big difference between paying for a new game IP or something that was never going to happen (bayo 2) vs paying for a game that was being developed for all systems to only come out for 1.
You really think that FROM team would have just been sitting there with idle thumbs if not for Sony?

To me it says there is hope for what used to be considered the mid-range console game. These games from From are getting labeled "niche" and "ultra hardcore" and that's not right. Before generation 7, such games - often focused on gameplay with moderate but not low production values - would be seen as a mainstay of game consoles.

Such games have mostly moved to PC, but based some some comments from Sony it appears they want there to be a home for these titles on consoles rather than have everything be COD and GTA.

Demon's Souls HD and Dark Souls HD, please.

I'm a sucker for a full franchise on a single platform.

Man... Demon's Souls HD would be amazing. Just 1080p and 60fps would be enough for me.

Really happy to hear about the Bloodborne sales. I'm probably half way through the game now and am having a blast. It feels like there's less depth and variety compared to the Souls games, but it's still been an incredible experience.

According to Sony, Japan Studio brought the idea of Bloodbourne to FROM, it was in one of their videos leading up to the launch of Bloodbourne.

More subtle than that, Sony brought the idea of a collaborative Japan Studio / From PS4 exclusive Miyazaki game to From, not the concept for Bloodborne itself.

I was under the impression that Sony came to them to make a new IP but did not dictate the direction of the game to them, only that they did not want a sequel to Demon's Souls. It's possible that Bloodborne could have still existed in a different state under Namco or another publisher even if it wasn't exclusive.

No and it's not what I said in the slightest. They would be working on ds3 or armor core. But thanks for even trying to argue something i actually did say

I'm hoping it means Sony will be willing to fund more games by FROM Software that wouldn't have normally been made, like with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. They could use Dark Souls as their multiplatform bread and butter release and use Sony's funding to keep experimenting with new IPs.

Where is your proof that bloodborne would have been made without Sony?
Not Bloodborne, the specific game, but they would have been working on something still. They aren't a struggling studio that needed rescuing.

Anyways, I've had this argument plenty of times now.

I think some people really need to believe otherwise, or else the whole 'its good that its exclusive' argument kind of falls apart.

I don't know the truth either way, of course.

I play on the xbone, I can't shovel out 400 for a ps4 anytime soon, exclusives are fine but I don't want to be shut out of from softs content for good, I love dark souls.

Bamco will make sure the Souls are multiplat. Sony/Kadokawa have other deals though. We don't know if MS has approached Kadokawa for some games though.

The question is really if FROM wants to do any more work for hire games. Now that they're owned by Kadokawa they should hopefully have enough financial security to fund their own games without relying on another publisher. And they've already proven that they can mobilise their fanbase without relying on an existing IP, so there's little reason for them to make a Bloodborne 2.

Wasn't this the exact reasoning people used to try and prove that there wouldn't be another From PS exclusive before BB was announced?

I still remember that thread.

Dark souls 3 is probably already getting made by the B team and that will almost definitely be on all consoles and PC

I'm actually interested in FromSoft revisiting the Shadow Tower series. Maybe make it 3rd person because I get extremely nauseous from 1st-person.

Usually, developers come to us with their ideas to start a new project. Bloodborne was a bit of a special case. As we had a strong desire to work with Miyazaki-san, we brought the idea to From Software.

I don't need to delve into console warrior nonsense, I state facts.

That's not what you said, but I was making a point.

You were making a point that I was assuming From was going to be doing nothing if BB was not a thing despite the fact I did not say that? Seems like a useless point then.

Here let me help you out,

You original point - Why do gamers want 3r'd party exclusives?
My rebuttal - Can utilize hardware better, it's one more game/ip to the list of the game that would exist anyway (ie. reasons why people might want 3rd party exclusives).
Your rebuttal - So From would not be working on a game
My rebuttal - Not what I said
Your rebuttal - I was making a point.

The point is moot as From would be working on a new game (and track record kinda shows they might have gone to do a DS3 right away). DS3 will still exist but with a 3rd party exclusive in BloodBorne we get 2 great games that will be out instead of 1.

Hmmm...I guess I'm in the minority that thinks Bloodborne is still a relatively barebones stage of a new franchise. I feel like there's going to be a lot of added dlc with chalice dungeons and BB will be treated like a service ala Drive club, and If Sony and From wants, a full sequel.

If I can turn my fandom on for a minute. I would want a DeS port to PS4 @60fps. A lot of DLCfor BB, and if the director next dream game isn't continuing BB, Sony funds it anyway while giving BB to a passionate talented studio to build the franchise. Ds3 becomes team B's baby and they both have a bit of fun with competition between friends.

Dark Souls 2 came out on March 2014.
PS4/XBO were out in holiday 2013.

I think its pretty obvious why DS2 sold less than Bloodborne. The audience that DS2 was for moved on to next-gen consoles which explains the PS4/XB1 port.

I see both Namco and Sony wanting to go full steam ahead with their respective cash-cows.
Please lets just move to Asian influenced and stop fucking around instead and constantly hinting at it on the 3 katanas.
By Asian, do you mean just Japan or a broader section?

I wouldn't mind seeing some South Asian stuff.

A lot of DlC for BB, and if the director next dream game isn't continuing BB, Sony funds it anyway while giving BB to a passionate talented studio to build the franchise. I feel content wise the base game has almost enough (enough if you enjoy the chalice dungeons) and I want the DLC to have more story elements and maybe a few more (5 ish or more) story locations (less depending on size i guess), but I do not want a BB 2. I don't see a story there. The BB story revolves around Yharnam and the hunter, and it would feel like DS2 if they chose to make the "bad" ending be the real one and you are just redoing it all again. And if they decided to tell flesh out one of the side stuff like Vilebloods, it would fit better with BB as dlc and not a sequel. So as much as I loved the game, a sequel is not what I want (although I would play it). Reminds me about the way I feel about TLoU. Love the game to death but I want it to be it's own story and be left alone.

I hope that means more Souls games!

Maybe yet another IP / Setting. Not particularly fond of the idea of Bloodborne 2. I'd rather see a Demon Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3 or something else entirely.

Wasn't this the exact reasoning people used to try and prove that there wouldn't be another From PS exclusive before BB was announced?

Well yes, I personally believed From would have established themselves enough to not need Sonys support before Bloodborne as well, but even more so now that they've been bought by Kadokawa.

Though to be fair, most of the debate pre Bloodborne was for a potential Demon Souls 2, which I still think would have been a horrible business decision. As it happens, Bloodborne wasn't a particularly big departure from Dark Souls either, and shouldn't have been that big of a risk if they'd had the finances to fund it themselves.

I hope they will do something new. I could see a new Armor Core though, or DaS3 (which would be multi-plat, and personally I don't want it, but it'll happeb). Would love to see a revival of King's Field if they go the route of farming old IP's, but I don't want to see a BB2 game or DeS2 personally. They can do DeS remaster with the last Archstone available to play, I'd be all for that.
But I really hope that they go with something new, let them go crazy.

New From Software zombie apocalypse game.

I've always felt the Souls series heavily emphasized survival.

You wake up in a hospital realizing you are immune to the disease...trying to find out what the hell happened to the city. They'll be able to make amazing lore from this.

Forget the swords, spears, and axes...give us baseball bats, shovels, 4 by 4's, and other similar weapons.

Forget the vials and Estus flasks...give us water, food, and bandages for survival. Have minimal NPC humans/survivors to talk to just like Souls/Bloodborne.

Have flare guns available for coop and something else for invading other "survivors".

They can make some amazing enemy designs and also make the human enemies ruthless like the Hunters in BB.

This game would be golden.
