Beat V
icar Amelia
right before bed last night. Felt damn good beating her, and DBP, basically "head-on" in comparison to my usual tactics. The cane is so glorious for smacking things in the head.

The
door that the Hunter Chief badge from the shop
opens must be nearby to that boss fight right? I feel like I opened 20 doors in the area in like 5 minutes, I wonder where it is supposed to be.

It opens the gate leading to the courtyard with two giants. You probably already opened it from the other side.

Ugh,
Vicar Amelia
. Had three attempts and on the third I started to get behind her but she kept backing into the corner of the cathedral so I struggled to get behind. Tried getting someone in to co-op with the bell but it seems literally no-one is around that area.

this?

the upper Cathedral Ward gate must be unlocked via the Hunter Chief Emblem which can be bought at the Hunter's Dream for 10k echoes after obtaining the Sword Hunter Badge from the Cleric Beast.

nope. thats all different area.
dont you mean grand cathedral ward?

In Lower Pthumeru Dungeon you have an item (level 4) that you cant reach. Has anyone found a way to reach it on the ledge?

God dammit, I'm all ready to do the Lhyll Chalice, got my 4 red jellys. Go to make the dungeon and find out I need a Living String.

I'm already in NG+, so I look up where I need to find it, and....Nightmare Mensis.

Well shit. I already did the Make Contact to get the rune, but I never knew you needed to kill Mother Brain too.

Now I gotta speed run through NG+ just to get one damn Mat =/

Hmm.. yeah probably, if that's where I'm thinking it is. That would save me some souls :> If I had pretty much a straight shot ("go up staircases") from the Cathedral Ward lamp to VA, is it definitely open?

Yes. It's the gate
at the top of the stairs leading to the straight ahead towards the grand cathedral

Beat S
hadow of Yharnam
on my first try. The first phase, with
all of them alive,
was definitely the hardest. I spent most of the time dodging and running, just to attack when it was completely clear. After
one of them died
, it became a very easy fight. They stagger so easily, when you get up close they cannot do a thing. Only when there's
three of them
, it's hard to do that without getting
ganged up on
.

I'm sure it depends on what weapon you're using, but some general tips:

-She (and Paarl for that matter) can be Visceral Attacked even without parrying them, just watch for the hanging head down stagger animation
-Dodge to the left, almost all of her moves make this easy
-The two-fists together smash shockwave (sort of looks like she's praying)... don't dodge this backwards ever. Again, to the left works well.
-Staying on her hind legs is fine but if what happened to you happens, you want to back way way way up until she does her leaping one-hand smash thing. It's easy to dodge and opens up a bunch of room.
-In her final phase, she has a couple freakout moves where it seems like the animation will never end. I honestly just stayed away from her until it was SUPER obvious she was done, and then got one or two hits in, until she fell

Thanks for saving me 10000 souls :D

Well...fuck. Managed to kill
martyr logarius
on my first attempt. Woohoo.

Started up a chalice dungeon and played for a little bit. Huge clap of thunder near the house and the power went out. Just turned my ps4 back on and my save data was corrupted. I was able to recover it through psn, but the last backup was from before I even activated the Brygenwerth lantern. Looks like I get to beat
both rom and logarius
. Again. I'll be taking a break from the game for a few days for sure.

Just wondering, how are you suppose to know at M
other Brain, that doing the signal gesture for some time will give you a rune?
Seriously, how are you suppose to know that? Is there any hint in the game that i've missed?

There is actually a very subtle hint about this, but it's clearly not meant to be easy to figure out, instead relying on word of mouth to make it well known.

The hint is this:
The doll reacts to gestures. The queen reacts to gestures. The gesture is called Make Contact. The brain is a Great One. Maybe making contact will do something eventually.

Serious question regarding difficulty of late game areas:

I read a lot about N
ightmare Of Mensis being super unfair/cheap, as well as Unseen Village, but I didn't really notice anything overly BS about them. Yeah there was the frenzy orange light but it seemed fairly easy to avoid by breaking its line of sight. I'm by no means an expert at this game but it's a bit disappointing to hear countless claims of "yeah the game pretty much turns into cheap BS cuz it runs out of ways to be difficult and fair" and not run into any of that. Unless these people thought it was a good idea to try and take on those rock throwing giants or something lol.

I was semi expecting there to be literally a corridor of those creepy singing brain things but I never ran into one. I heard one singing near the final shortcut but I don't think I saw one in Mensis. Cheapest/worst thing in the game for me was just the poison areas in Nightmare Frontier... I remember reading about a bell ringing woman spawning "super fast red spiders" but I never saw this (unless its a chalice thing)

there's a hidden path where that happens. second cage up from the lamp.

Edit: So is there anything useful/interesting from the strategy guide? anything we didn't know? something about blood gem stat values?

Just started my second character! I think It's going to be a bloodtige build.

I choose the cane and damn! it seems like hard mode! Not much trouble with regular dudes but it deals way less damage to the Cleric Beast compared to the other two weapons.

Anyways here's my new character. My first female character in a Souls game (a friend actually made her, I suck at making characters lol)

So has anyone figured out the netcode/matchmaking? I really want to make the most out of cooping, but I rarely get any connections (with 200/20 NAT 2 connection set to worldwide), be it chalices or regular levels :(

Well, co-op seems broken.
I summoned 3 players, but I was never summoned. I was invaded a few times, but could never invade.
So yeah, my experience is not good either.

Alfred is a boss. 2nd character playthrough using summons, and jeez, what a tank. Completely cheesed CB and BSB while I flung a torch with my Arcane-build girl.

Also, didn't realize he used the Kirkhammer as a default. Interesting.
You can summon him for cb?

And for me, he was pretty disappointing.
Died both times against bsb before we even got it below 50%.

well this makes me feel awesome, lol

Haven't summoned anyone yet for anything and I am starting to think I might need to beat all the bosses solo to be truly satisfied with this playthough. I love the crap out of the Cane. If and when I go back and try out the Hunter Axe it'll probably be like Super Guide Mode. :D

Use the cane/whip's awesome range and unusual attack angles against bosses. You can often stay out of range and still hit with the R1, the L1 (transform attack from cane), running around, and forward + R2.

Fire is super effective. And You already opened the door if you are here.

First boss down on first attempt, but here comes the real test. Amygdala is easy, this damn dog, though. I hope I don't spend more than 30 minutes on it.

I was lucky and had a co-op partner join quickly and we demolished it. Yeah, Amy is dangerous, but the pattern is good and doable.

Cane for life. No respect for you whippersnappers with your sharp weapons and hulking blades. Why not just ask your mom to help you play.

I actually enjoyed the cane for it's crown control in the plaza (although I keep hitting walls with the whip mode and that fucked me in more than one ocassion lol).

It's just that I reached the Cleric Beast and the damage was so low compared to the saw lol tbh I didn't upgrade it yet, I went all confident expecting a cakewalk.

I'll try to stick with it until I get the Chikage (the weapon I want to main with this character)

Last Saturday when I was level 42 I spent a couple hours just helping people beat her. I had like 400k souls at the end of my session.

I'm 67 atm so I'm going to assume I'm out of the range to help.

Super aggressive as well.

Heh, you don't know super-aggressive until you've met
Abhorrent Beast
in Lower Loran chalice dungeon.

That thing's single-mindedness at trying to smash you to a creamy pulp is unmatched. Only fight in the game that I seriously considered might be more beast than I could handle.

Ive been very successful on many occasions over my 4 playthroughs. Ive found people for every boss in the game and ive been summoned alot. The most times i got summoned was for FG and VA but also rather frequently for late game bosses

Nat 2 worldwide aswell

Yep I was just bitching about him last night. Biggest dick in the game. He can make up ground fast and will track you with his projectiles.

Had a much harder time with him that with even Loran Darkbeast.

Main story Amy is easy. Depending on your build and style, Defiled Amy can be the hardest fight in the game. Way more health means you have to learn the fight properly.

The axe is really really strong. The charged R2 in 2hand mode is extremly good at staggering all kinds of enemies. hell, even the charged R1 knocks over a ton of enemies.

Im in forbidden Woods. Looted most of unseen village also. Now you tell me there is a charged r1 attack as well? Goddamn how did I miss that...
