I am fine with them sharing moves as long as Vergil's moves are modified or changed.

I like that his Rising Dragon, Round Trip and Drive are mechanically different from Dante's.

It shows that they are similar but not the same.
 
The only thing I dislike in Lady is that she'll never look as cool as she did in DMC3 again. Even the pre-order costumes for DMC4 doesn't look as cool on her (and I'm not even talking about the bigger boobs either)...

Shared moves with modifications are fine. I'm a huge advocate of them, in fact. I think that's part of why Vergil is the paradigm of the perfect rival. But it looks like Million Stab is functionally the same.
 
I'm okay with characters having key differences like that.

And can't say he is hurting for mobility options much in the SE.

I want their *combat* moves to be as different as possible, but basic traversal stuff should feel similar, IMO. Like I wouldn't enjoy each character having a different run speed or jump height.

Still disappointed that Vergil no longer has Rising Sun as a move he can just use, and instead is forced to be in DT and use Lunar Phase first. I feel like they did that because Dante's got Rising Sun at the end of DT Kick 13, so they wanted Vergil to be the same... it's just weird since Trish has it as a normal move, from what it looks like.

Maybe they were having some issues with the charging aspect of it? Or Itsuno just wanted Vergil to do a Shoryureppa, which is probably the actual answer.

DMC3 is where Vergil popularity exploded, so it looks like you never experienced it. DmC Vergil is a goober by comparison. You owe it to yourself to play DMC3. It's one of the greatest action games ever made and it still holds up today.

DmC Vergil came after DMC 3 Vergil. In fact alot of story beats in DmC are cribed from DMC3 Vergil.

I am of the opinion that DmC Vergil isn't nearly as good as DMC 3 Vergil, but I honestly find them to be the weakest characters in the franchise regardless of the universe.

I see where you're coming from but fundamental differences like that tend to have a big effect so I appreciate them.

DMC3 Vergil and the way his story is handled there is amazing.

Huge fan favorite.

His theme (music) from there alone is a big deal.

Vergil became popular after DMC3 and then again after UMVC3. People got thirsty for more classic Vergil and thus he returns in DMC4SE.
 
That's true, but Million Stab just seems like the type of Crazy Combo move that should be unique to Dante. I don't have a huge issue with it or anything, I just kind of preferred it when it was a Dante exclusive move.

Point, but I veer more towards Dahbomb's viewpoint on this: visually similar but functionally different moves are A-OK in my book. Or at least, so long as they aren't TOO numerous, heh.

And I'm still thinking that what we see Vergil with now may even be more fully-fleshed out and different if we are due to see him again in the next game.
 
Lady isn't the only who gets played by Arkham... both Dante and Vergil get played as well. Lady obviously knows she is out classed but that doesn't stop her because she is relentless in her mission to kill Arkham. Should Batman not face Darkseid because he is "out classed" by him? That's what heroes are about, facing down the odds when they are stacked against you.

Yup, DMC3 is basically three badasses being made look like idiots by Arkham - but for all her stubborness and prejudice, Lady is the one being made look the dumbest. I mean, she basically goes from "I'm pissed I wasn't the one who got to kill him!" to "I'm super sad he died and will avenge him!" in five minutes. For seemingly the most determined character in the story, that's a huge shift, even given her emotional bond to Arkham as her father.

So Dante can take a bullet from her? Does that mean she should just quit her mission and let the "big boys" handle it? That's the exact weak female character bull shit that most AAA games shove our throats these days. She doesn't need saving or to have someone else kill for her.

Lol no. The bolded is kind of a big jump from what I said :P My issue with her putting a bullet through Dante's face is that 1. he never showed any hostility towards her (being annoying is not hostility), heck he rescued her at that exact point (she didn't really need that but still) and 2. she doesn't yet know he's going to survive it. So for all she knows, she basically kills a dude for being an annoying, but harmless douchebag. That's kind of wrong and not exactly easily justified by "difficult childhood and a messed up family," however true those may be.

And to just give a more generalized reply to both you and Guardian - I'm not denying that Lady has her reasons to act the way she acts in DMC3, just like Dante has his reasons to be an annoying douchebag during the first half of the game and Vergil has reasons to be a total asshole to everyone. But understanding why a character is written the way she is and LIKING the character are two separate things IMO. And I just happen to dislike her.

I'd also be much more okay with it if Vergil has a DIFFERENT thing that happens when you push X while already in midair (rather than Air Hike). If he doesn't have anything, that's a wasted possible input.

I'm totally cool with Lady's rocket jump, for example. But whatever Vergil's x-in-the-air thing is wouldn't even necessarily have to be about gaining height.

They're not super balanced like Street Fighter, and they're a bit floaty, but they're super over the top and alot of fun to play. It's got such an incredible setting too. I totally would love another RS/PJ title.

I liked Project Justice. Wasn't the most balanced at the time, but still pretty decent.

I wouldn't mind another sequel.

It's pretty amazing how we all thought it was baloney when he mentioned wanting to make another Dragon's Dogma, Devil May Cry 5 and Rival Schools 3 a couple of years back in that one interview but now all three may very well be getting new entries.

A fighting game set in high school will do way better in Japan than DS.

And like I mentioned in the other thread, the game's concept is very receptive to making it a Capcom All Stars High School edition of sorts, not to mention cross over characters from elsewhere.

Adding three characters while only working on the game for half a year to a full year is pretty impressive.

Darkstalkers was pushed really hard by Ono, but it failed the Capcom Test when Darkstalkers Resurrection released. It's really unfortunate.

He seems to have some pretty high ambitions for a fighting game, mentioned wanting to redefine the genre like SF2 did.

So it would either be a new IP or RS and RS is the safer bet. Though considering the above even if it is RS it will probably play way different than before.

Personally I'm pretty damn interested in seeing what the team that did DMC3, DMC4 and Dragons Dogma will do with the genre.
