Weren't the Mii fighter suits in SSB also tied to these amiibo? Plus future unlocks, of course.

Plus getting an awesome inkling on your desk.

No, the Splatoon amiibo do nothing outside of Splatoon atm. The SSB/Splatoon costumes are preorder bonuses, iirc?

Loved every minute of it. I feel like motion controls are better but will take way longer to master.

Also, no way yet to pre-order it on the EU eshop?

I checked an hour ago and couldn't find a preorder either. Guess I missed out on the Testfire preorder discount.

Just double-checked. They might be preorder bonusses in the US, but the EU direct just had them as "More details will be available later".

So here's a question - what was your favorite color combination in the demo? I imagine a lot of people will find themselves using the Color Lock not just to assist with trouble viewing colors but also to get combinations of preference.

I really liked Green and Pink.

Yup that was my favorite as well, it's a really nice Pink and it contrasts the Green very well.

oh hey I'm a member now, nice

Kills really don't matter that much in turf wars, though. I mean sure, it is useful to kill opponents to they can't ink for a while, but it is not the objective.

I already had a few times where I was the only one really going around to paint stuff while others went only for kills.
When enemy teams do the same. It's the easiest matches to win.

Every game on saltspray rig went the same way, with everyone fragging in the middle while I went to the big area at the top and went paint crazy, always topping the board at the end. I think it will take a while for people to get out of the typical shooter mindset

One thing I haven't really been doing is going to a high platform and just start shooting like crazy. I've really been a "don't miss noticeable spots on the ground" kind of guy in the Testfire sessions. I think just shooting in a circle while at a high elevation really helps.

Yeah, I noticed in a few matches no one bothered painting the sides of the warehouse stage. Instead they stayed in the middle killing each other.

Or they might flock to the ranked game mode. Isn't it supposed to be more akin to typical shooters?

What about Mid-Game? You would have to open that Map up, making yourself vulnerable, then Super Jump.

With the GamePad Map, you can run away while finding a good place to fly away to.

I survived many battles by moving away from the enemy while looking down a tab to find a place to transport.

For the super jump can you not only do it at base on the launchpad? If you can do it in the middle of the battlefield I would agree that you'd be at risk but if you're in base you're safe unless its a complete stomp.

This is important, they mentioned and used this during Treehouse Live. Not only can you superjump to your teammates at any time during the game (not just when you're dead), you can also return to your spawn point at any point during the game. This is a super useful escape tactic when you're being cornered and it's all just a thumb-press away.

I never actively seek out enemies, but I can't say it isn't satisfying taking them out when they try splat me.

Did anyone else really like the "Plop" sound you make when you dive into ink from a certain height?

It sounded exactly like dropping a rock in a pond or something.

A detail that I noticed - and i don't know if anyone mentioned before: The ink you swim through as a squid leaves a little grove in the ink that stays there till you spray more ink on it. It doesn't seem to disappear with time either.

Same. My frothing demand for the new Rhythm Heaven makes me want this pretty badly.

I imagine it would be super fun to play between matches.

Oh yes, I know what you mean. Just some quick 8-bit beatz to jam to whilst getting the best score possible, before going into the match and getting the best score possible.

Thanks! I can't remember ever seeing them when I played (2 of the 3 sessions). Really strange since I know others were using the Splattershot Jr. and that obviously a very useful special. I wonder if it's just a case of people not knowing about specials?

There seem to be a lot of people who don't know how to use them but also I have seen quite a bit of people using them. I mean it's the first time people are playing so it makes sense.

One of my favorite moments is when someone activated their bubble then walked next to me so I would get it too, then we both just advanced slowly towards the enemy base and painted it. God that was epic.

Oh, it is definitely satisfying. Rolling over squids is always a fun time.

Why does the game have to be three weeks away? :(

I did not notice that, thanks for pointing that out.

According to the NoE Splatoon Direct, if you have the Testfire demo, you'll get a 10% discount of the actual game on the eShop until Jun 04.

Saw this on reddit

I managed to do this in that same exact spot!

That one big section at the north end of Saltspray Rig is basically designed for this.

lol

I'd love if Nintendo would surprise us with an earlier release, like they did with the second Mario Kart 8 DLC pack.

That would truly be the greatest gift they could ever bestow upon me. Aside from letting me into their most secret of areas, and seeing all of their greatness first hand and for everyone else..

Will the costumes for Smash Bros. be able to be downloaded later? I want them but I don't want a physical copy of the game.

I'm sure they will be, I don't think they would have made those costumes and only give them to the small amount of people who pre-ordered at GS (and that's only in the US right?).

I think they'll sell them later, just how much later is the question.

I feel like the ninja squid perk will be annoying, but I guess I'll have to see it in action to find out.

Yea, it is. I notice people don't try to go up to higher places in general, even if it is not that high like the center of the Walleye Warehouse. People will have to get used to that. And people don't paint on top of the elevated surfaces such as crates and stuff. Those count and probably account for at least 5% of the inkable ground.

Definitely shows how vertical transversal should be a more important consideration for chargers since they can paint high walls easily. I'm still more impressed by the first charger video posted earlier though. Definitely a mark of a good player is how quickly and smoothly they move around the battlefield.

This guy is also pretty impressive in terms of movement.

"this guy" is Nogami-san, btw^^

producer extraordinaire!

I'm seeing ink everywhere.

There are eyes peering at me from the ink, they are swimming in my walls. The walls are same color as the blue ink from the game. I can hear them slowly shifting through the walls, waiting, plotting.

I haven't seen many/any negative impressions since the Testfire. I hope the great word of mouth I've seen along with the marketing push make this a minor success, at a minimum wnd hopefully a surprise hit.

The game was tons of fun for my daughters and me. It also shows that Nintendo has some talented young developers, along with the older legends we already know about. A success may mean we see more game ideas and experiences from some fresh faces. Something Nintendo could benefit from, IMO.

That one big section at the north end of Saltspray Rig is basically designed for this.

I remember when I was playing in Salyspray Rig, there was a 3 vs 3 fight at the joint point between the northern platform and the central area. My opponents were controlling the platform, preventing my other three teammates from entering the area. I decided to jump in immediately from a far corner and turned on my barrier once I land. I shot down two shooters, and bumped into the remaining roller and got an instant kill. Then I climbed up the containers at the center of the platform and shot 360 degrees to cover the area. That is my most special moment in the testfire demo, and at that moment I know I will get this game DAY 1.

That isn't "the typical shooter mindset" you're dealing with. That is the "fragging in the middle of the map" being more fun than solo-painting off on the edge, even if you don't get to "win".

Every objective-based game wherein the objectives aren't as entertaining as the rest of the gameplay feature this. "PTFO" wouldn't be a term in other shooters if your "typical shooter mindset" rated playing the objective more important/fun than just fragging other players.

In fairness, I watched the direct after saying this was not a 60 product. After, I felt the same way if not more convinced there isnt much here. There is maybe 3 different competitive modes, 5 maps is real, a bot match campaign...and a shrimp with a different shoe on each of its 8 legs. Oh and you can only play certain maps at certain times of the day. A month in, the big multiplayer weekend event is "do you like dogs or cats?" Why could that not be achieved every weekend? Or, you know, something substantial instead.

The game was fun. Maybe even so fun its worth 60 bucks. I wouldn't know because I only got an hour in.
I don't know what led you to the conclusion to call the single player mode a "bot match". You also forgot to mention the local 2-player battle dojo, maybe you confused it with the single player mode.
Have you seen the single player trailer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EXKQQmm9EE (single player part starts at 20s, just in case you're impatient)

Single player spoilers below:

There's also some singleplayer levels in the dev stream:

And yes there will be some kind of lore/story in the game as well.

Edit: Concerning the lore and the possible number of levels
Watching it again, I noticed that it says there is 1 Sunken Scroll hidden in each level.
The menu here shows 27/28 sunken scrolls

Does that mean there are 27/28 levels?
