Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

WHAT ABOUT NINTENDO?

Our budget left us with two options: Build the biggest, most beautiful game we can, or make sure it runs everywhere from the start. As things stand today, we can't afford to create the two separate versions of this game that would be necessary to make it run on every console. That said, we've heard legends about a remarkable treasure hidden in the castle basement...
So...Stretch Goal? We've already blown way past $850000 already...

Went for $60 pledge, although I will only accept a physical Wii U copy.

Can I just say that I love watching IGA game? Especially when he is into it. Him playing Axiom Verge was sooo good. And now Shovel Knight. Tearing up over here man!

At this rate they'll get to $1,000,000 before they announce the new stretch goals! This is nuts.
I was just coming to say this. Mofo's are funding $5000. Its f'ing insane. I dropped a $100 on this bad boy. I guess I'm just as bad lol but man oh man do I miss me some real castlevania.

Also, I wonder if the Kickstarter Goal Counter has the Paypal donation numbers added - I paid using Paypal (I had some money laying around in Paypal) and that's in a a fangamer.net interface, separate from Kickstarter.

It probably isn't. I wonder how much money they have on the paypal side.

If that's the art they plan to use in the final game than I'm dissapointed. Expected some sprite goodness.

Oh well. It's not like I'm not buying it anyways :p

Damn, you got mad skrilla fam to just drop two g's like that.

Years of frugal habits, low cost of living, and a well-paying job helps, lol. I'm not rich but I have enough that really don't have to worry about spending a lot when I feel like it. It's overdue anyway, don't spend for ages and it'll come get ya sometime, lol

I'd love to see them fool around with multiple layers such as background and foreground being payable. I think that batman blackgate game did something like that.

It's mostly the same assets though. And the 3D parts in SotN were utterly ugly.
I don't know. The backgrounds in SotN looks of considerably more detailed than the ones on DS, as well more varied overall.

That's super subjective. Personally I find OoE's and PoR's soundtracks universally better than SotN's.
Composition-wise, I don't think the music took a hit. The style of music(in the Castlevania series) was, if anything, pretty on the mark as far as consistency is concerned. Well, at least until LoS, which even though I like the first one, I'm not a fan of the whole "epic movie" sounding soundtrack.

Though, if we are talking about sound quality and quality of synth, yeah, SotN beats the asses off all the GBA/DS games. SotN's music almost sounds like REAL music, like some of it COULD'VE been played by actual instruments, with a band or an orchestra. I think the only other old CV game to hit that sound quality mark was Rondo of Blood.

I have no idea why you would hate PoR's music. Yuzo Koshiro and Michiru Yamane worked on it.
It has some of the most amazing tracks like Invitation of a Crazed Moon which is easily one of the most memorable tracks in the series, it has Bloodlines remixes, it has a remix of a super old Konami game that Yamane composed as well, it has some boss themes that I can actually stand to listen to (I don't like most of the series' boss music), it's catchy and great.

What exactly do you hate about it?

I dunno man, I generally like PoR's soundtrack, but that song def isn't one of my favorites. Kinda cheesy sounding, tbh.

As far as being better than SotN, I just think that SotN has sooooo many awesome tracks, like seriously, all of them. So many varied styles, nearly all were brand new to the series, and just beautiful sounding.

PoR's is good, but not on the same level for me personally.

Thank god you don't collect amiibos.

So, to the naysayers, still think this baby won't hit a million now? Seriously folks, this game is just as wanted as Yooka-Laylee.

Honestly I don't think IG and crew even thought they'd hit all their stretches this fast either,

The mix of 2D/3D elements, the whole package, SOTN is still a beautiful looking game to me, much more than so many games over the generations.

When I first saw the 3D assets in SOTN, I thought they were breathtaking. I still think they are, considering the hardware. It meshed with the graphical style of the game quite well imo.

This stream was very fun to watch. Having your game played by Igarashi must be such an honor for a indie developer.

Watching Iga slowly learning how to play Shovel Knight was awesome. lol

Castlevania's music always has been about being catchy and "cartoonish" rather than being purely atmospheric. Even SotN's music is like that, although it is a blend of both. But if you want atmospheric orchestral stuff, go play Lords of Shadow.

LoS had a great soundtrack, but no, I don't mean atmpspheric, I mean classical influenced like, well, SOTN, I know the old games had their fair share of cartoonish music, but atmosphere is king, and I don't mean atmosphere as in "long boring notes", I mean as in "This is the devil's castle, and sounds like it".
