Formula Fusion (futuristic racer by former Wipeout devs) Kickstarter is up

I'm going to start a kickstarter for kickstarters. Raise money to help other kickstarters produce better kickstarter campaigns, for those ideas that are great, but the creators don't have any marketing awareness.

Someone already tried that, he failed!

it's ironic how in 2015, the year flying cars were supposed to be real, is the current peak of uninterest in futuristic racers with flying cars.

i wonder at which point history took the turn to led to the current situation.

Probably somewhere around this point in time...

If I understand correctly, they are going to make the console versions anyway, just the time it will take is unknown if the goal isn't met.

They were even thinking about making the Vita version anyway, because they already have experience with down-porting.

I see. Quite confusing project indeed. Here's hoping the console versions see the light of day.

Revisiting this, my opinion hasn't really changed much. I'm interested, but not $30 interested.

Maybe if it was actually "former Wipeout devs" and not just one guy who worked on the series over a decade ago, I'd be more inclined to back it for that price. Best of luck to the team regardless, I'll definitely check the game out once it releases.

Bad campaign and not much to show off, surprised it got even this far ...

Iga just raised how many millions with just concept art? Most of these developers were the people behind original wipeout series and they have way more to show than IGA did. No idea what you mean by "bad campaign"

Iga actually advertised his project long before the Kickstarter went live, as well as being in a genre thats more popular than future racers (which almost nobody cares about, sorry), he also had a 100% clear campaign on backer levels and actually good stretch goals while this had none of that (you might want to re-read the thread as it has been discussed here and they even got shit for that on their Kickstarter).

Sorry, you can expect to make a game in a genre almost nobody cares about, do zero advertising, have almost nothing to show and then expect that people will storm your Kickstarter. As discussed before, check the other recent successful Kickstarter campaigns and you'll see a huge difference.

They should have given their prototype 1-3 more months in the oven to have something really cool to show off, do some proper advertising and let their Kickstarter get checked by people and this could imho have been much more successful. A proper plan for regular updates would have been cool as well, more concept art etc etc but there has been much at all.

As I said before, I love this genre and I got my own future racer idea/vision stuck in my head for years and I feel this is not the way I would try to get my baby out there.

I don't want to say too much, but I've have spent some good thoughts on a new
algorithm for creating awesome tracks which automatically bend around
obstacles, can be dynamic in shape without cutting buildings/obstacles
etc., and can be procedurally generated and stored if needed. That means, for
example, that one can build an environment (a city, whatever) and then let the
algorithm compute the tracks along the obstacles automatically depending on
some parameters for controlling the layout of the track to a given degree,
if needed. The process is much more complicated than stated here, is very
mathematical, and also needs some good computational resources, but the
results should be stunning.

I currently don't have the time to work on this idea and to fully implement it
(for the time being), because there are other things I have to do first to get
me in position where I can try this idea out the way I want it. I actually did
some rough calculations with some very small scale models, and the results
look promising. I just have to start anew and adapt everything to make it
usable for a racer I have in mind (but perhaps not your standard AG racer,
but a mix of ground, air, and mid-air racing, don't know yet for sure). So
basically, I have to build the editor for the tracks first, and then I will
see how to map any racing aspects onto it.

So in the long run I'm looking for some skilled/math/graphics people who may
want to work with me on the track editor and on designing the racing aspects
of, hopefully, a very fast, thrilled racing game offering a superior racing
experience. Bold statement! ;) If any of you are interested, hit me up.

Edit: I think most people in here have a vision about an AG racing game. Well,
even if FF's campaign isn't perfect, at least they try to actually bring
something on to the table, which is the hardest part of all, no matter what's
the Kickstarter.

All of this, basically. Also worth noting: $28 USD gets you a full copy of Bloodstained. $31 USD gets you at least the initial version of Formula Fusion with 8 tracks, but guarantees you nothing else. Especially in light of other failed Kickstarters, it's hard for me to throw down close to $40 CAD for something that might have less content than Wipeout HD.

I mean, this campaign had a low goal that originally didn't even guarantee you the game. The explanation for the base goal was a paragraph of text that mentioned zero deliverables, instead of "we make the game, it will contain this." Only later did they update to mention "oh by the way you'll get the base game with 8 tracks." It's not the worst Kickstarter campaign by a long shot, but it's definitely no Igavania campaign.

Nearly at £70k.

Hope this hits the £100k mark, British studios have really been under the cosh recently. At the very least, the £75k 'exports integration portal' goal looks very interesting.

The real problem with wipeout is it's had the same people working on it since Wipeout Fusion, with all their flawed ideas of what wipeout is, redressing and reusing all of fusions trash concepts.

Ever since fusion, wipeout games have felt less like PSX wipeout and more like heavily decorated fusion reentries.

They've done a very good job with modernizing the feel imo but it's understandable people will miss the originals after getting used to them for so long, they really needed the practice to understand the controls and so it's just too ingrained for some.

Fusion (which is a remake more than a sequel really) doesn't require the same momentum control that the games before AND after it do. They likely moved away from super floaty afterwards because it wasn't as responsive and felt outdated, and they made up for that with the tighter track designs and faster speeds (after Fusion) that you can still pull off with the additional flexibility the responsive controls allowed for, keeping the pressure up.
They did try going back with Pure and then did the opposite with Pulse. HD had a good feel and 2048 went more floaty still. I enjoy basically all of them but didn't spend much time with fusion.

my god, finally some good news!! and with tdr!! HUGE!! need my phantom class fix!! sony should back this themselves!!

Just a heads up for anyone that may have missed out on this:

Can I still back the game even though the campaign has finished?

We're in the process of setting up a store front on our website which allow you to purchase the game at the same rate as it was here on Kickstarter (£20). We'll also offer some other goodies but some things were exclusive to KS.

Newish update from their Kickstarter page. Also they were approved on Steam Greenlight and hope to release an early access Alpha around July. So very soon.

Wish I had the money to back this at the time. Buying the game off their storefront in a heartbeat when it goes live.

Just dove in. This has every indication to be amazing I think. Even in it's current form it feels good and responsive, but in a wipeout kinda way. Still need to anticipate turns ahead and factoring in their size and elevation configs. And it's fast. Not phantom fast, but fast enough that it feels damn good.

Give me the final version now please.

So I backed this, and now I just got an email from them looking for an extra 5 pounds "delivery" fee? For a digital product??

EDIT: False alarm apparently.

Is there not much hype for this? I can't see any other threads about it here and finding impressions online are quite scant. I'm looking to buy it with some Steam credit I got for my birthday but don't know how it'll run on my PC (2500K w/ HD5970). But I guess here might be the wrong place to ask if so few people have it.

They announced plans to add a cockpit view with VR support! Would be awesome if they plan to support PlayStation VR as well.

Track development is under wraps at the moment, soon to be revealed, but I ‘can’ tell you that multiplayer aspect is well underway and we are also working on a cockpit view which will also include a VR option.

Really curious to see how everything will work. The idea of seeing your weapons, shields, speed etc on the dashboard and looking through the cockpit window at a detailed futuristic city sounds awesome. I'm just worried how they are going to balance the speed of the game with being a comfortable VR experience.

I expect and hope for a lot of screaming and yelling.

I get quite a bit of tearing on this.
Hopefully they work in some optimizations soon!
(And add more tracks!!)

Really cool so far, great start!

The new update finally released. Has a new cockpit view and track to race on. I had my Oculus DK2 hooked up and Formula Fusion automatically started with VR enabled. Head tracking didn't work correctly and the menus had to be navigated on my monitor, but I was able to race a few lapse with the new cockpit view.

The hardest part was messing around with the head tracking to get the perspective just right. It was pretty cool, even though I couldn't freely look around. This will definitely be awesome once they get it working 100%. It's possible it works just fine with the consumer Oculus and the Vive. Anyone else try this in vr with better results?

Wow that looks almost like an upport of Wipeout 2048(it's even more similar but i couldn't find a better screen)

Game looks much better than previously. Getting hyped for this now - hopefully it can be enough of a 'hit' to fully sustain a decent online playerbase.
