I think that developers and publishers are abusing with the remasters, its ok to have some but it look that there will be more remasters than new games and the excuse of people didnt play it last gen becuase they didnt have the console its really bad

I don't give two shits about anything from Sony's studios, but I do like the games they publish from outside developers (Rime, Bloodborne, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Resogun, Journey, etc). The only thing that might change my mind is the sci-fi RPG from GG.

If Zenimax can get Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, and a reboot of Prey 2 from Arkane Austin (if that's even a thing) out at E3, they win by default.
This...is something I never understood. First: what exactly is controversial about it? I missed the count of the people who said this. Second: you practically admitted to not give a fuck to the sony's studio like many others but for what reason exactly? The variety of the sony's studio it's very high, you can't be not interest in everything owned by them with a logic. Or maybe it's just because they work for sony?

After playing The Order I really don't care about graphics anymore. It looked amazing but that did absolutely nothing to make up for its shortcomings.

Too many modern games miss out on loneliness.

Admittedly, I haven't played a lot of the big releases lately, but I have noticed an overall trend of making the protagonist a character amongst a group of peers.

Examples:
Metroid Prime vs. Corruption (group of bounty hunters)
Infamous vs. Second Son
Half-life 1 vs. Half-life 2 (Alyx, Antlions, etc.).

Now, I think that the experience of being part of a bigger world is a good thing and I think the "chosen one" heroic narrative can be overused, but I really miss the loneliness that characterized a lot of early games. I don't see it as often and I'd like it to come back.

It made Morrowind seem big. It made Jedi Knight seem threatening. It made Half-life seem mysterious.

I guess in the Beth RPGs you can always pick whether to be alone or not.

Here it goes

-I like video games
-I enjoy video games
-Diversity in art style (sprite based and polygon based games) is a wonderful thing!
-Diversity in gameplay style is also a wonderful thing, everyone gets something to enjoy!
-Games don't age
-No big company (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) in the industry should be doom and gloom! We need them in fact!

"Games don`t age"

This man knows.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway:

-Persona sucks and is emo crap.

-Any storyline with depressing questions about the meaning of life, emo kids talking "deep ship speeches" nosense, trying to be edgy and deep, sucks and sucks.

-Sonic is for emo nerds pretending to be deep and edgy.

A big reason why I likeds Fallout 3 was the loneliness, that's a good point MikeB. Super Metroids oppressive loneliness was a huge reason why I liked it as well.

Skyrim is the weakest Elder Scrolls game. It did improve combat mechanics and graphical quality, but everything else about it was very poor in comparison to every TES game before it.

Also, I disliked every moment of Far Cry 3. I only finished it because a couple friends gave me a hard time about it. It made me feel physically sick because of so many poor decisions, especially the droning in the menus and the camera animations during cut scenes. Seriously, not even Mirror's Edge gave my motion sickness. But Far Cry 3 was horrible to play.

I enjoyed Fallout 3 way more than New Vegas.

I don't know why people are cheering The Order 1886's visuals.

Ok, I'll admit that it looks great but my main gripes with it are the two black bars on top and bottom of the screen. It's obvious that it was done to compensate for a lack of power.

Honestly, I was insulted by those black bars. I'm not buying a HDTV only to have it display stuff on 66% of its surface. I expect 100% display on my screen.

Screenshots of the game with both bars look crazy.

Thanks for listening.

Bloodborne is quite easy. The stamina cost is next to nothing and all of your dodges have a ridiculous amount of invul frames. You can beat most bosses by just spamming dodge.

(PC) GTA5...?

The city design is absolutely stunning. Cars are awesome, and the radio stations are just as good as you'd expect from a R* game (so, pretty awesome). I'm also a fan of the characters in what I've played so far (about 35% in, stopped playing last month)... But that's it in terms of exceptional content, in my opinion.

The missions are still forgettable, the side content unsatisfying (although I've not done the lot), and the non-vehicle gameplay is still unspectacular...

It's not a terrible game - It's a pretty damn good one, to be honest, but the reviews, sales, and universal praise from fans? I don't get it.

I've played a little of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and while I love adventure and RPGs, this games didn't clicked with me, probably because they are huge and I don't have the time anymore (but I'll still finish them both and have fun, just not as everybody else).

Started Mass Effect. 2 hours in, and it is baaaad.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like American devs, especially with WRPGs, do not know how to make fun gameplay. It feels so shallow. Sure they coat it in "things you can do!" but those things are not fun, and no matter how many systems you implement, the core action of pressing buttons and moving forward has to be fun. No matter how many genre influences they drown their games in, their heart is still shallow. They just aren't getting it.

Do you mean the movement and combat specifically, or do you find the story and characters to be bad as well?

I would agree about the combat in ME1, they definitely improved it a lot for ME2 and 3.

I found Assassins Creed: Black Flag to be beautiful but very boring. I really do not understand why the series is so popular when the combat and running mechanics are stale and outdated. The story isn't very good either.

Beating a hard sp game is a far inferior achievement to being truly good at a mp game . All the talk of I want a challenge/hard old school games = go learn to be good at cs dota q3 or any skill based mp game if you like a challenge so much . Learning some stupid ai pattern or mechanic has nothing on learning to outclass top tier humans imo :)

I'm right there with you. I tried to play the Witcher 2 and just could not get into the gameplay at all, especially the combat.

This is a weird post . You hate te black bars ? Not at all uncommon opinion . You hate the graphics in general ? Yes uncommon but you backtrack on that immediately . Not quite sure what this is part from maybe just black bars were not an artistic choice ... Opinion is split on that but apart from that this post is just shitting on the order for no reason/relevance to this thread. And I'm not even touching the hyperbolic crap that is 66%

I don't know about all WRPGs, but this sums up my feelings about modern Bioware. I still can't explain how or why I finished the Mass Effect trilogy. The first game was the only one I really enjoyed, but I kept soldiering on.

Even though my library keeps growing, I still play Call of Duty, Destiny, and Assassin's Creed on a routine basis. I always have an urge to get back into playing World of Warcraft. I played the Order: 1886 and it has to be my favorite game of 2015 so far.

I played Bloodborne for maybe 2 hours, and haven't played it again. I have bought Fallout at least 2 times, and never played it. I love the original LoZ on NES, but never got into any of the Zelda games after it. I have Witcher 3 on preorder, and I will surprise myself if I play it for more than 3 hours. JRPGs is a genre that I will never play.

Movement and combat. Too early to say on the story.

Graphics are also pretty tough to deal with. Bioware's characters always feel like creepy puppets.

I was introduced to Zelda in middle school by my sister. I think it's a boring and uninteresting series. I've played multiple trying to understand the appeal, I think they should just stop making them.

This "generation" of consoles has been the most disappointing for me in quite some time.

We're going to be nearly two years into it and nothing is really doing it for me. The first two years of the last gen brought more fun for me. I appreciate taste is subjective, and I see some people are loving the experiences these consoles are providing with the likes of bloodborne etc but the likes of dark soul etc were nowhere near pushed as BIG, the way bloodborne has been pushed. They seemed to be niche games for "hardcore" gamers that were very good at what they did. But now bloodborne is almost mainstream.

I personally had much more fun playing the likes of motorstorm, pgr3 etc on the last generation launches, than I did playing forza 5, need for speed on the new consoles launches.

And then as time went on I got to experience gears of war, call of duty modern warfare (personally this is where the series peaked on consoles), killzone 2 etc.

The last generation in its lifetime also brought many greats, the likes of last of us, grand theft auto v, Mario Galaxy etc.

I'm still hopeful that this generation will bring some greats, infact I'd say it's guaranteed that there will be a few. But I'm doubtful that they will be as great as the last generation greats, and I doubt they will deliver the same sort of impact that the big hitters last gen brought.

But unfortunately so far for me personally it seems to be a common thing where games releases at launch are completely broken, bf4, halo mcc, driveclub, assassins creed unity etc, and remasters seem to be a worrying trend. Now I don't mind remasters as such, infact they'd be welcomed on certain games, but it almost seems like they're getting centre stage, as opposed to being surplus to other game releases like they were last gen when "collections" were released.

It's safe to say that for me in terms of launch "wow" factors, this gen of consoles did not deliver. I remember being absolutely shocked at how Fight night 3 looked for instance. While there were some good looking games on launch, e.g ryse, killzone etc for me they didn't give me the same "jaw dropping" moment something like fight night delivered.

At least it was short.

I am not trying to be dramatic when I say that I thought Fallout New Vegas was a bad game. I loved Fallout 3, and I practically got 100% in that game, so I was really excited for New Vegas.

I had several times in-game where I was walking for 5+ minutes without encountering any enemies or events. In F3, I felt that I was always running into something to do. The New Vegas landscape was just so damn drab to me. I thought about making a thread for this, but my close friend and I don't understand how one can like New Vegas more than 3. I played through the campaign, but I was disappointed most of the time. I finally started having fun near the end, with some of the crazy weapons, but then it ends and takes them away.

Is it the side quests that people loved? I didn't play any that seemed as awesome as the ones in 3. I really wanted to like it, but the drab environment, insane number of bugs (I played over a year after launch, too), and the quest I wasn't really into all made me so confused about the hype it had.

Well, I'll stand by your side on the FFX comment. Loved it, can't wait to buy the remaster for PS4. Replayed the whole thing on PS3, after completing it on PS2 back then and I will do it again on PS4. Loved the characters and the story of this game, can't get enough of it.

Some people prefer FFVII, but FFVII had some weird moments and I didn't get into the story for some reason. (Suplex a train anyone?)

Wrong game.

X is terrible apart from the combat & music, but that's not controversial so shh, spoiler tag.

You can do what I did and just not play much of the chalice dungeons.

The game definitely needs a bit more content though.

Allowing Mod writers to charge directly via Steam for their mods was one of the biggest gifts Valve could have ever given to the gaming community. People wouldn't have have complained (so much) if they implemented this system from the start with The Elder Scrolls 6: Morrowind 2

A 'free' market for your works.

The Elder Scrolls games are shitty.

The combat is shitty, the plot is shittier still, and all the pretty open world graphics dont do a thing to change that.

Final Fantasy VI could cut out a few chapters and missions, it falls apart in
The World of Ruin when you're recollecting your friends.
I never picked it back up out of boredom.

I like hard single player because I like to learn and beat patterns though. With time I will figure them out and get the reward and beat the game.

Getting good at multiplayer feels like a never ending black hole of dedication for me where there are always a good percentage of people with more time and will to improve then I have. And there's no real reward to it at the end baring winning a few more games then I did before.

So I sort of agree with you that's its harder to get good at multiplayer, but I don't get as much enjoyment out of it as I get besting a hard single player game.

This isn't really an opinion per se, but I have zero nostalgia for old games, platforms, mechanics, etc. I don't have any interest in remasters or remakes or going back and playing old stuff. I want to play new stuff. I think most "classic" games are worse than what we have today because the stuff that's coming out now has had so much time to iterate on past formulas.

I agree with you.

By this point in the last console cycle, we already had Oblivion and Gears of War, and Bioshock and Mass Effect 1 were 3 and 6 months away, respectively.

What do we have in this generation?

I don't necessarily disagree, but Valve's typical silence about it until the release, the in depth mod scene that all already developed around Skyrim and the particular quirks involved in modding that particular game meant that the implementation was only ever destined to be a complete clusterfuck.

Exactly.

And all the games you mentioned were at the top of their respective genres. No game released so far on these consoles is anywhere near the same impact.

I can't even see anything on the horizon either. I'm hoping E3 brings a few surprises. But I honestly feel we're going to have to wait for 3 years into the consoles life to get games that have the same impact

Even for me the quality of new ips released so far isn't great. I do wonder at times whether maybe it's just me beginning to start getting bored of gaming, as other people seem to get lots of enjoyment from the new consoles, but I recently decided to get 1 months subscription to ps now, and I'm getting lots of enjoyment from uncharted 2, motorstorm apocalypse (man I wish we had got a new motorstorm instead, with the amount of graphical showcase they put into driveclub - I can only imagine how good the weather, mud deformation etc would have looked), infamous 2 etc

I'm not sure if this is a "controversial" opinion, but this thread is probably the best fit for it.

I really, really hate the Dualshock design. I dislike the symbols on the buttons and have a really tough time adjusting to the symmetrical stick placement. The PS4 has been my go to for multiplatform games this generation because I bought it first and because there's usually some performance benefits, but I've slowly been transitioning to the Xbox One because I find it's controller to be so much more comfortable. Although for 2D games and fighting games I'm still sticking with PS4 due to the D-pad being placed in the "primary" position.
