Terrible subs aside it is pretty great. I can't wait for the dubbed version to hit the states. The new manga is great. I think when Kishi thinks smaller and focuses on characters things really click in Naruto.

Yeah, I would agree with this. When I did read the manga, I always felt the best parts were when Kishimoto would focus on, oh, Naruto, and his loneliness and isolation. He was actually my favourite character from the series, so when Kishimoto would actually give attention to his titular character instead of Sasuke, it was for the better. Sasuke wasn't even Naruto's best antagonist - Gaara was. And that's because he was a mirror of Naruto (the What If for the character). That's why the Talk no Jutsu with Gaara remains the best as far as I'm concerned.
