With regards to the styles - can't see why they can't make it more like other action games (thinking of Bayonetta), with
- a secondary attack button, which is how it has been for almost every other action game
- a dedicated dodge command/button
- tying block to the stick (a la Bayonetta or MGR)

I agree with the general sentiment that the others posted. While it's good when action games build upon each other in ways to evolve, I don't think homogenizing inputs is the way to do it. Also technically DMC already has a dedicated dodge button. Your jump is your universal i-frame dodge, albeit with tighter timing than a lot of other action games.

Basically, I don't think having a light and hard attack is necessarily the right way to approach DMC. We actually are already seeing it implemented in a way with Trish, but I don't consider that a "next step" by any stretch of the imagination. I wouldn't want it to necessarily be implemented across the board.

I may just get this. Beat the original DMC 4 but sold it some time later. When is the other DMC remake coming?

Guys, coming in as a total DMC scrub, where can I go to learn how the gameplay works?

I'm sure if you just search DMC3 or DMC4 basic tutorials on youtube you can find some good stuff.

I think your best bet is to just buy the DMC HD collection which should be relatively cheap and play through DMC1 and 3 (trial by fire)

You can just play the game when it comes to get the jist of the game play. It' sort of a learn as you go thing, it's better that way because you get moves slowly into your arsenal and you figure out ways to incorporate new ways into your combat moveset.

If you want a full guide that goes from beginner to advance:

Dante Combat Intro

Lady Combat Intro

Trish Combat Intro

Vergil Combat Intro

Nero Combat Intro and Intermediate to Advance Tutorial

Advance Nero Combat video

Advance Dante Combat video

Super Advance Dante combat video

These videos don't cover the fundamental aspects of DMC in general which are the following:

Your Melee attacks are with Triangle, Special attacks with O, Gun attacks with [], Lock on with R1, Jump with X and L1 is Devil Trigger (in Lady's case she uses Grenade).

L2/R2 are used to swap weapons for Lady/Dante/Vergil. L2 is used to charge Nero's sword. Select is Taunt (or Touchpad on PS4), L3 is switching lock on targets and R3 is center camera.

Regular moves are done by just pressing the buttons. Some combo string moves are done with pressing buttons then pausing at particular strikes and then attacking again. Special moves are done with Lock on Back + button so a Stinger which is like the SIGNATURE DMC move like the Hadoken is to SF.. you hold forward and press R1 + Triangle.

You can launch by holding back instead of forward and by holding down the Triangle button as well you can rise with the enemy.

R1 + Left/Right + X is the evasive roll which is very useful to avoid attacks. You generally want to be locked on in this game as much as possible.

The other fundamental stuff includes stuff like jump canceling (you can attack and then jump out of it after certain frames are completed), weapon switch canceling and special cancels (you can recovery of regular moves into the special lock on moves). You can use various cancels in the game to do crazy combos.

A basic DMC combo looks like this:

With Nero: /\, /\, pause, /\, ./\, R1 + Back +/\ (hold /\), in the air, /\, /\, pause, /\, double jump up, /\, /\, R1 + Forward + /\ (in the air), R1 + Forward + /\ (when you land)

This is not a set combo, it's just an example. Every part of this combo can be changed/altered to your liking. You can continue a combo after that last hit with Nero's Devil Bringer for example.

Right now from easiest to hardest characters in the game to master:

Lady < Trish <<<<<<<< Nero <<< Vergil <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Dante

The joke with Dante is that you can spend 5 years training with Dante and that's when you will finally not be ass with him.

The whole point of the game is to SWAG on your opponent. If you aren't swagging with SSS ranks then you aren't really playing the game. This means mixing up your attacks, not getting hit, landing powerful finishers etc. Taunting also raises style bar if near enemies and if you complete the animation. Everything in this game is designed for swag.

Disc version is Japan only right? does it have an English option?

I wish Backslide had uses outside of doing swag finishers in combo videos.

So I was not the only one seeing the resemblance between DMC4SE Trish and Bayonetta.... :p

P.S: Lady's HUD looks fucking awesome.

They have the same voice actor in Japanese as well.

Wait the Japanese version doesn't have English menu / subtitles? If it doesn't, I might have to cancel my Amiami order.

We're 99% sure that the Japanese version will have English menus except for the description text. Probably subtitles too. It's just not confirmed at this point.

I don't think we're gonna see DMC5 at E3. E3 is now a bigger deal than ever thanks in part to twitch. With all the craziness that is already at E3 (8 conferences, including Bethesda, SE and a PC gaming event-thing) and the crazy rumors of what might happen, a DMC5 announcement would get drowned out. We're looking at:

- Fallout 4
- Possible Elder Scrolls 6 announcement
- Doom 4
- Possible Final Fantasy 16 announcement
- Possible Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer
- The Last Guardian rereveal (rumored)
- Possible Battletoads announcement
- Possible Resi 7 announcement

Not to mention likely announcements of new first party titles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, and other announcements from the major pubs. The big players seem to be aiming big for 2016, and many of those announcements are likely to drop at E3. DMC has mostly been a TGS first, and it's there that DMC5 would be able to stand out the most.

Nah. I'll give you Fallout and Doom but the rest either are very unlikely to happen (FF16? Really?) or aren't really that big as most people think (TLG).

DMC is not as big as RE or GOW or many other franchises, but it's still a pretty damn popular series and it's announcement would be a big deal, especially if it get's announced in MS or Sony's conference.

I still think they'd want to tease the game to a large audience, then unveil a gameplay trailer down the line. And anyone check out this thread? Capcom has an action game lined up for e3 hmmmm.

Yeah, at least a teaser/name drop to get people going, with a full/proper reveal at TGS in September.

After all, one of the main ways to help 4SE sell would involve announcing the definitive sequel at E3, which then gets more people interested in "seeing what the fuss is all about" in the form of the cheaper/available product that'll conveniently be available right around E3...

A tease in the form of a mention or a "wink wink" moment is possible, but even something a teaser trailer or even a title card doesn't seem likely.

I was kinda throwing stuff out there. On reflection there's no way ES6 is happening this year. I could have suggested something more realistic like God of War 4 and Gears 4/5/Electric Boogaloo. It doesn't really matter what the specific announcements are because E3 is going to be crowded, and it would be hard for something like DMC5 to make big waves when the pool is already pretty crowded with heavyweights.
