Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

Fallout looked pretty shitty on PC with mods even. I mean, modded morrowind looks better than modded fallout.

I don't dispute that, but it still looks miles ahead of the sub720p console versions.
There were moments when it actually looked pretty decent, with proper AA and some ini tweaks.

Still, Bethesda should just not get excused all the time. They have an actual proper competition that does lot better work with fraction of the budget.

It's so cool to see it set in Boston. I have lived in the northeast my entire life and go to Boston all the time so seeing the outside of a fortified Fenway Park and thinking, "wow, I've been there" is really cool to me.

I was just about to take a screenshot and post this.

My insinuation was not that an open world game can achieve the same graphics as those more linear experiences. It was that a higher level of graphical fidelity is expected across the board when it's been proven possible on this Gen of hardware.

I wouldn't expect this fallout to look like the order or TLOU remastered, but I certainly expect it to look better than a 360/ps3 game, which it does not.

Is your problem with the fact that I have standards and expect improvements between games made by the same dev?

There's an improvement here. You'd have to have been high while playing fallout 3 to not see a massive improvement between games by the same dev. I didn't mention the order and Killzone because they were linear, but rather because they were rather dull games that put graphics first.

And why do all games have to achieve new graphical peaks? I mean seriously, my main problem with the majority of AAA games these days has been that they put a huge emphasis on upping the graphics at the cost of gameplay. I look at the new Battlefront with significantly less features than battlefront 2 with the only improvement being graphics and I see the push for graphics as a negative thing. It costs money that has to be made back to make things look pretty, and that means less money is spent on interesting new ideas, or at least the maintenance of good old ones.

My problem with Bethesda RPG's have always been poor animation. I think graphically the game looks fine but it's hard to tell if they actually did some work with animation.

Love that GAF has been awaiting Fallout 4 for years, and as soon as it's revealed all threads are filled with hate and assumptions about a game that doesn't even have a release date.

Never change, internet.

PS I'm beyond hyped, I've waited years for this.

Trailer was good. Nothing mind blowing, but good.

"Yep that's Fallout".

Best part was of course War..war never changes.

the newest one
from monster nests to being a detective/tracker
after a few dozen times it gets old fast

The plight of Open World games

What I always loved about Fallout is that when you stumbled upon a side area (specifically other vaults) you never knew what kind of adventure you were about to get into

Fallout has always made every discoverable area interesting in its own way and I hope they pull that off again here

Anyone saying this looks like a PS3/360 game is so blind that I'm actually impressed that they can find their way around a keyboard well enough to write intelligible posts on an internet forum. It's impressive for people with vision that bad. The lighting alone couldn't have been done on PS3/360.

Yeah, it's odd they've got the T-45d on the cover, but I've only seen T-51b's in the trailer.

I'm pretty sure the T-45d is the power armor they focus on at the very end of the trailer. At least that's what it looked like to me.

A fairly minor thing to be sure, but still a tad odd.

Character models have been garbage in Bethesda games for a while. Didn't the default models in FO3 and Skyrim just have bizarre, toeless slabs of meat for feet?

Another area where FO4 needs to get on Witcher's level.

Totally. The Witcher 3 has kind of spoiled me. I for one hope that this game isn't populated with the typical Bethesda dummy NPCs.

I was expecting Fallout NV on mods to be the standard graphics here. But even that doesn't bother me
that much
. The very stiff character animations do, though.

I think more fluid and realistic character movements would go a long way in helping Bethesda's worlds feel more alive.

I think Bethesda is more concerned with the big picture in their games (you can do ____ and do it whenever and where ever you want!) and I feel can overlook some of the little details that I feel shape a game.

So the leaked info about having a voiced protagonist was true? Can't say it fills me with hope regarding dialogue. Expecting it to be incredibly dumbed down now that they're having someone voice the lines.

Who pissed in your coffee this morning?

Quite the opposite. I'm in a cheerful mood.

Their presentation was horrific. There was no cohesive directed creative artistic vision in that trailer. It was a mishmash of random content with no narrative flow.

Does the game have a moral punch? All of the other games in this series do even the endlessly overrated third entry.

It parses as a buzz feed highlight package to get people ' hyped '. "oh look a blimp, some power armor, a dog, a vault, here's some neat flashbacks to how things used to be, here's a dome that's still around, haha look at these neat things"

Critical analysis is not always emotional. Factually that trailer is a piece of garbage.

I got didn't play fallout 3/NV until a few years after their release... but I never considered those games particularly mind blowing in the gfx department

I thought the trailer looked pretty good for an open world game... Textures are kinda fug for current gen but I came in expecting that. Props to Bethesda for showing off the actual engine. Would helped to have a few snippets of gunplay though

Fallout is VATS. If that's not your thing, cool, but that's what the game is. It'll be nice if they've improved some of the shooting mechanics but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Saying fallout 3 is VATS doesn't excuse atrocious shooting mechanics, it only sidesteps the problem. Why can't they have both? Everyone would be better off for it.

Nailed it. If I can tolerate STALKER, I can tolerate Bethesda games. Even though they can be lackluster in a LOT of places, the scale and open-world design keeps me playing.

Here's the thing...

I think it's perfectly reasonable to complain about subpar visuals in a AAA game in this day and age. And not necessarily just the graphics, but the art style too. I'm not really impressed with either from the trailer.

On the other hand, most Bethesda games (including Obsidian's FNV, my absolute favorite) are big, fun, and absolutely butt fucking ugly. I mean, really now... did anyone actually think Fallout 4 was gonna be a huge change for the series? Slightly better, upgraded Fallout 3 is still butt fucking ugly by most standards.

Honestly, the one thing that really worries me visually is the fact that it looks like they're still using the same damn engine. Which means it will probably run like crap and be buggy as hell. I'd be totally ok with the visuals shown so far if it meant that they scaled back on graphics to provide a smoother experience.

I gotta applaud them for showing actual footage in the reveal trailer though. At no point during that trailer did I question if what I was seeing was real. There were no in game footage, representative of all platforms, or in engine footage labels on that trailer. Really refreshing. Respect.
