Wait, I just realized the title is slightly misleading.

Splitscreen is still in for 2 players on MP, just not for campaign.

Kinda suck but it's hard for me to care about that with all the other amazing news we got about the game today.

While I'm dissapoibted that there is no split screen, it's not a deal breaker like everyone's making it out to be. Clearly they went with optimizing performance and didn't want the downgrade quality in order to allow split screen.

Disappointing? Yes. Dealbreaker? No

I wonder if it's just a limitation of console power nowadays? I mean the frame rate of MK8 gets cut in half with more than 2 players. I'm sure a game that runs at 1080/60 is way more demanding. Then again you're only rendering half the screen, or a quarter...but I'm no developer so what do I know.

The MCC proved again how much I enjoy this series in local co-op. I'm really glad they made the online co-op mode not require Live Gold, but this is still a major bummer among otherwise good news about Halo 5.

Of course it is, got to get dem clicks!

(I'm joking, although seriously the title should probably be changed)

Well they honestly may have just lost my sale. Really fucking bummed, I have played every Halo game split screen, every single one.

Here's some tidbits from this month's GI issue. A lot more in the magazine: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...y-cover-revealed-halo-5-guardians-923520.aspx

  • Whether playing as Chief or Locke, you're accompanied by a fireteam of 3 A.I. which you can command/issue orders to in the campaign
  • Highlighting an enemy and hitting up on the D-Pad orders your team to assault an enemy
  • Other commands include picking up certain weapons, using turrets, driving warthog, etc
  • AI teammates can revive you as well
  • Confirmed: Linda, Kelly, and Fred join the Chief
  • Game starts out before Chief is on the run
  • Audio has been heavily reworked from the ground up for Xbox One (bullet sounds, debris, etc)
  • 8 months after Halo 4 ends, cataclysmic events are tearing apart star systems, these are tied to the Guardians (Forerunner entities shown in the first teaser trailer)
  • Game Informer played the second mission, taking command of Chief and Blue Team to take back an ONI research vessel abandoned for 2 years
  • Locke's team is described as having more advanced tech than Blue Team, members use the "ATS" (Artermis Tracking System) on their armor to bring out points of interests in levels
  • Team banter replaces interactions with Cortana to flesh out the characters
  • There are multiple routes to take in levels/multiple ways to tackle objectives
  • Difficulty scales to the number of co-op players
  • The zealous religious Covenant are slowly abandoning Jul M'dama's leadership from Halo 4
  • Spoilers:
Cortana's silhouette is seen by the Chief after he's separated from Blue Team, she says: "John, the domain is open. Meridian is next. You only have 3 days, John. The Reclamation is about to begin."
  • XBL Gold is not required for online co-op.
  • Halo 5 will launch with over 20 multiplayer maps
  • 15 DLC maps by June 2016
  • All maps will be free
  • Teases a "completely new, epic multiplayer experience" they'll reveal at E3. Incorporates "all aspects of the Halo sandbox for the first time ever"
  • This MP experience is described as a "dream of ours and all our fans to build something like this"

dat balance :)
to amazing to be upset for me :)

So splitscreen is still available for multiplayer?

Is there any chance they reverse this decision for co-op campaign? Why would they have split-screen available for multi but not for co-op? Lame.

Have goood memories of playing Halo local co-op, but haven't really done it since Halo 3 and wouldn't have played local co-op here...so it doesn't matter to me.

Does Destiny have splitscreen co-op?

If no, then does it matter?

"this game doesn't have split screen. therefore, what does it matter that halo, a completely seperate series which succeeded largely in part due to its extensive multiplayer functionality, and which has served as a last bastion of console lan and splitscreen functionality over the last few years, doesn't have it anymore?"

All of my co op since Halo 3 has been done online so it's not a loss for me whatsoever, but damn does it suck for those that do. I'm surprised they didn't bump down the FPS to allow for split screen, if that would even work.

Not a deal breaker or anything for me, but definitely a bummer. Splitscreen co-op is a big part of Halo's appeal imo. Bizarre to cut that feature.

I'm just wondering if the same complainers said that about Bungie when Destiny released.

Seems like Destiny still sold well.

Sad. It won't affect me, as my brother has moved to California, but if I was a kid still with easy access to a couch co op buddy, I'd be devastated.

I've played through the entire Halo series using split-screen co-op. Since I never really got into online multiplayer, local co-op was what defined the Halo series for me. To be honest, I'm not surprised after how much the various developers have compromised the splitscreen experience starting in Reach and more-so in Halo 4. However, it is really disappointing. With this move, I think I have officially lost all interest in Halo 5.

I'm just wondering if the same complainers said that about Bungie when Destiny released.
I didn't buy Destiny, and lack of splitscreen co-op was a factor in that choice. I understand that local co-op isn't a make or break factor for everyone, but that doesn't mean that the audience for splitscreen co-op doesn't exist. The shooter audience isn't monolithic or homogenous.

Other than the 2 being shooters and one was previously made by Bungie, you are comparing 2 different kinds of games.

It's not like Halo 5 and Destiny are competing against each other as well as both are on the XB1 and more than likely, people would own both. I know some of my friends are going to be pissed.

Basically having Destiny as his Online game and Halo 5 as his online/local party type game. That was his plan anyway.

Damn. Sometimes it feels like Nintendo is the only one left who puts any effort into local co-op nowadays (barring the lack of local co-op worth a shit in Spaltoon, of course).

Plenty of people who still get in touch with their friends and hang out in person whenever possible.

"Plenty" I'm willing to bet that the size of that number is why most devs don't bother. Sucks for those that care but don't act like half the fans buy it for splitscreen.

k, well, i'm still as unhappy about that as i was when i found out in december but that's less bad than not having the option at all.

and no campaign co-op at all unless online is more than a bit saddening

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Dont really care, all my friends have Xbox One. 4 player coop is still a thing is a huge deal. No other AAA franchise does that.
