I seriously don't get the negativity towards either MS or Sony's conference... I guess maybe I'm more easy to please but I felt Sony fired on all cylinders tonight.

1) TLG isn't vaporware and has a release date (sure it may get pushed back to the summer, but it's coming)
2) FF7 remake (I hate timed exclusives, but am glad XB1 gamers can play it too eventually)
3) Shenmue 3!! The Kickstarter is already at $860,000 (EDIT: $916,000 and rising) and it's for PC and PS4 only...admittedly it's been so long since I last played 1 and 2, but damn I think it's cool to finally get 3.
4) Horizon looked very interesting
5) UC4 looked...well like UC, which is a good thing.
6) The conference didn't drag on
7) See 6)

Sure, there wasn't any announcements for exclusives this year, but when the fall line up consists of 3rd party games like Fallout 4, Battlefront and CoD I think they're playing it smart with just the UC collection.

TLG just said "2016" which to me means the ass end already, I won't be shocked to see it still slip into 2017 since that isn't a very committed date.

Don't get me wrong, the conference was awesome, but I'm shocked at what we DIDNT see:

Bend's game
Bloodborne DLC
GT7
Crash Bandicoot
Uncharted Date
1TB PS4/$349 500GB model

Sony has Gamescom, TGS and Playstation Experience and they all have exclusives games in these conferences. I often wonder why they want to spread themselves so thin like hosting an annual Playstation Experience.

I am often not the demographic Sony is actively hitting as of the modern days but because their breadth and scale of games coming to their platforms, I can usually find more than a handful stuff that are appealing to me. This is including me making PC the defacto multiplats place.

Ok, solid 9.0 for me. Obvious stuff like TLG, Horizon, FFVII, Shenmue and Dreams really boost it up. What stops it from being a 10 for me is the third party segment and a lack of dates. If we could've had more specific dates, it would have been a 10.

What could they possibly announce/show to top this?, i'm afraid there's nothing they could possibly show that would do so... nothing, but i'd love to be proven wrong!

Nintendo can't top this it's not possible but they don't need to. They just need to do their Nintendo thing and they'll be fine.

This has been such a great E3 so far. Every single conference has been somewhere between good and outstanding. Happiest I've felt about gaming in a long time. Except for you, EA.

Sony is definitely funding Shenmue 3 hence console exclusive.

Besides, if you really think Shenmue 3 only costs 2 mil dollars (kickstarter) you are delusional.

Their whole E3 conference is REALLY sneaky once you get past the OMFG kneejerk reaction.

TLG! But...it looks exactly the same as it did 6 years, and its still not very exciting. "2016" huh...

FF7! But...who knows when that will ever come out, see Versus and KH3.

SHENMUE 3! But...a goddamn Kickstarter campaign? Pretttttty tacky

Meanwhile, the Vita is deader than dead, and Sony's 2015 line-up still lookin' real flabby and sick. They hope you don't notice that as they talk about the future.

How was it any sneakier than what any conference is. It's all about games in the future. FF7 being exclusive to their console first is huge, no matter how far off it is. Same goes with Shenmue (it's not coming to X1 as far as I know).

People know these things. They aren't stupid. Conferences are "shows" and "performances". Let's be real, we already know 90% of the titles people will buy, will be on both consoles. And what was exclusive to Sony, looked fucking great. TLG, UC4 + Horizon + No Man's Sky looked incredible. And not to mention Persona 5 which wasn't shown. I'll take those any day over Halo 5, Forza 6 and Gears of War. And UC4 showed Tomb Raiders little trailer up so badly. And I forgot about Street Fighter V and the beta in July.

So basically, you had both conferences showing key titles, and also "future promise"...and Sony just had better overall everything. Better conference pacing. Better OMG moments. Better future promise. Better immediate promise (MS has Sony beat this Holiday, but by Immediate, I mean within the next year and a half and not a complete TBD).

I don't see why it's fair to call Sony "sneaky" or any more sneaky then anyone else. Again, people aren't stupid and know that these things are far off into the future. Sony still had those announcements at their conference, or had major exclusivity for them. Sony's conference was just much much stronger.

The only thing MS had a 1 up on, was the BC feature. But I mean, that's also "future promise", as we have to wait and see how limited that list will be, and whether publishers will sign off on most games. It's a great feature no matter what (not having to pay for things you own)...but HOW BIG it ends up being, that's something off in the future. We don't know yet. And the Elite controller...$150...I mean it looks amazing, but $150!?

I own an X1 (playing ESO on it now), and I thought MS came out swinging hard. I thought there was no way Sony could match it. But after BC + The controller, it really kind of just..petered out for me, and was kind of a slow burn. Everything was really good/okay and solid. But it was just...that, solid. No games or moments were OMG for me. Rare was really cool, but outside of that, there was no OMG moments like Horizon, or UC4. Halo and Gears looks fine. They are doing what they always do. But nothing mind blowing (IMO).

So I fail to see how Sony was any more sneaky than MS (MS had that Holo lens thing, that felt very...scripted, and even if it wasn't, we didn't see enough of how it actually works in terms of playing the game with it. And how practical it would be to actually build things using that mode). Unless you think both conferences were Sneaky. But I don't really think either were. I think people know this is about future promise, as well as being a performance. And in terms of tangibel stuff, Sony just had a lot more OMG moments.

E3 is all about announcements and Sony made history tonight. I would say that it is pretty exciting.

Excited as well, but I have mixed feelings about my beloved Shenmue. I thought that if they made Yu go on stage, it wouldn't be just to announce a kickstarter campaign.
Don't get me wrong, this has been one of the happiest E3 in a long time and only after watching both MS and PS conferences.

Good time to be a gamer indeed.

I still can't believe it. Easily their best conference in years. Probably ever. Is this real life? Never stop believing. Agent? Half-life 3? Dreams (literally) can come true. Anything is possible now.

Got to compose myself after that event. So many megatona. You know a conference is so good when a game like Horizon is not the highlight of your show. Also dreams anyone? Potentially good.

Just visioned this in my head, fucking lol.

My favorite part: Right at the beginning one guy loudly yelled "Show Last Guardian!" the crowd laughed, then fuck me if the first game wasn't Last Guardian.

So glad i went to watch in the theater. It was an awesome experience. Will do it again next year.

Uncharted 4 - gorgeous as always. Found it as an interesting ending for the conference, showcasing new gameplay elements (I personally was more blown away by the previous gameplay trailer showcasing the verticality and variety of route choices). - 9/10

Um... what about the multiple routes Bruce could have taken during the car chase?

That was really impressive and way beyond my expectations for this conference.

I remember talking with some friends after the Bethesda conference that it was likely going to be the highlight of the show this year, with the remainder of the platform holders either matching or being slightly worse than that conference.

I am very glad to be wrong. That was a great showcase and Sony really pulled no punches in delivering their content to their audience. Nintendo is going to have to do quite a bit tomorrow morning - and it's already pre-recorded - to really impress me now.

And yes, I had the same reaction the whole conference.

Not everyone cares about FF7, Shenmue. It was a good conference but you can't expect everyone to be jumping up and down with fanboy levels going through the roof over games they did not play or have interest in.

TLG, FF7 and Shenmue 3 did nothing for me. Horizon on the other hand looks like an amazing game.

Same for me. I get that those three are causing some heads to explode, but right now I just don't don't care that much until there's a finished product coming. I don't have tons of faith in Shenmue 3 being good, FF7 is something I don't know I'd care to play through again and I wonder if it'll even make 2017, and TLG has been in limbo for so long that I don't have much faith it'll live up to its predecessors. Perhaps it's just me getting more cynical/realistic about these things as I get older, but it takes a lot to really get me excited.

Horizon sorta did: brand new to me, looks great, looks very unique (at least stylistically), that's the sort of things that actually piques my interest.

Great conferences from both console makers today. Backwards compatibility gives MS the clear edge in my mind, but I'm nothing other than hyped for all of this wonderful news coming from every direction.

Ditto for this. FF VII is a timed exclusive. Never really got into the Shenmue games. Probably most excited about The Last Guardian, but it's been "hyped" for so many years that it's going to have to be truly amazing to overcome it's checkered past.

With the 360 winning the last generation, for anyone who hasn't yet gotten a current gen console, backwards compatibility -- depending on how big the list grows to be -- is something that could sway a lot of buyers to MS.

But nice conferences by both Sony and MS.

To those of you who are complaining about the lineup for this year...exactly how many games do you want?

I'm not even a third of the way through The Witcher 3 yet and am still getting plenty of time out of Bloodborne before the DLC. MGS5 is coming out this fall and has more content than ever. Fallout 4 is going to be the biggest game of the generation so far. And then there's Battlefront, which, if it works at launch, can be played for an insane amount of time.

Do you want 7 games that can be played for 8-12 hours or a couple games that can be played for hundreds? At $60 a game I want to get my money's worth and get the most out of every game that I buy.

My favorite part: Right at the beginning one guy loudly yelled "Show Last Guardian!" the crowd laughed, then fuck me if the first game wasn't Last Guardian.

So glad i went to watch in the theater. It was an awesome experience. Will do it again next year.

Really wish they did that theater near me. I will be talking about this e3 for ages.

see, when i talk about pacing and presenting shit, that's what i meant. show your best stuff, not everything. they kept the conference to 90 minutes this year, which is their shortest conference in a while. as absolutely unexcited as i could possibly be for ffvii remake (because another nomura final fantasy game in an ocean world of nomura final fantasy games is really grating to me on a personal level), that shit is huge.

last guardian is something i have mixed feelings on. it's sort of like final fantasy versus xiii resurfacing where now i'm no longer looking forward to the product because too much time has passed. instead of excitement, there's just exasperation. on the other hand, it's about goddamn time (like releasing a 25 year old rom).

the big surprise was actually shenmue iii though, the game that wasn't going to happen without fan support and will happen sometime tonight. this was a franchise that was dead, that after ten years of clamoring for, is being revived. it's like kid icarus for sega or something. i'm backing it, but i seriously need a physical ps4 version somewhere.

while i might have mixed thoughts on all of these games (well, shenmue iii is super positive all around), this conference will go down as the one where sony revealed final fantasy vii remake, shenmue iii, and the last guardian all at once. it's a really positive thing that happened. these are all products that people can play and get excited for. this is not the shitty move of two years ago when they announced that the ps4 would have the same features as the ps1 by not copying the competition, and then amidst a cheering crowd, announced a shitty way they were copying the competition. and because there were no blunders or serious down points in their conference this year, i think it will go down as one of the most memorable ever. i don't know if such a trifecta can ever be hit like that ever again. maybe half-life 3, beyond good & evil 2, and skies of arcadia 2.

actually, that would be way better.

Skies of Arcadia 2 lol

keep dreaming big Anihawk

after this year, anything is possible >:D

I don't get it. It was boring

You must not like gaming much eh? Sony historically killed E3 tonight. They nailed the hardcore people with the holy trinity (FFVII R, TLG, Shenmue 3), showed SFV. They got Call of Duty, Destiny, and other 'bro' stuff too. It's hard to top this.

Conference was amazing, but the lack of Persona 5 worries me. It's an exclusive game with a supposed 2015 release date. I'm thinking that 2016 is far more likely for its release now (for the U.S. at least).

What do I do with myself now? :\

I was going to play The Witcher 3 after the conference but....all I can think about is the megatons that left me DEAD Xo

The point is that Sony releases games all year round from their first party and MS didn't, so they have games for the last 6 months. Do you only play first party exclusives? Most people don't and the holiday season has a bunch of this party games to fill the void.

Uhu. And why should I be interested in what MS has done if, again, I do not own an Xbox One.

And no, I don't play only first party titles and the above part of the post you quoted tells you that.

Don't get me wrong, the conference was awesome, but I'm shocked at what we DIDNT see:

Bend's game
Bloodborne DLC
GT7
Crash Bandicoot
Uncharted Date
1TB PS4/$349 500GB model
No Level 5 game either.

But Sony showed ton tonight and it's clear they have way more gooodies unannounced.

I waited so long for those titles, more Final Fantasy 7 and Shenmue ever since my teenage years and the next Team Ico game since the release of SOTC a decade ago.

Plus my favorite gaming franchise is ending with MGS5 this year. I'm now in my 30's, I don't know if I really have anymore gaming dreams like this anymore, what do I have left now?!
